Overall I am a huge fan of Adobe InDesign. I use it all the time in my job. It is a valuable asset to me. It helps me do my job well.
Pros: I love Adobe InDesign! I use it for print designs for books, newsletters, cards and so much more. It is one of my everyday essentials. The program is easy to use and is worth every penny. I am such a fan of Adobe Indesign. I could not do my job without it.
Cons: I wish that Adobe Indesign had an automatic save feature. It would be helpful to not have to think about saving the program but rather let it be an automatic feature.

Pros: Once you get past the learning curve, InDesign is perfect for your print design needs. As a part of the Creative Suite, it seamlessly integrates with other programs meaning that assets and design elements can easily be shared. Also it is very easy to create templates for future projects.
Cons: You will need to use Photoshop or Illustrator for image/vector file editing support. Also as part of the CS subscription based model it can be costly to run particularly for hobbyist or freelancers.

InDesign is a key tool for layout-heavy projects like brochures, reports, and brand guidelines. It helps keep complex documents clean and consistent.
Pros: The layout control is excellent, especially for multi-page documents. Styles, grids, and typography tools make it easy to maintain brand consistency across large projects. It’s also well integrated with other Adobe tools.
Cons: There’s a learning curve, particularly for designers coming from purely visual tools. Like other Adobe products, the subscription cost may be high for very small teams.

Great, I use this software daily and it is the industry standard for graphic design. There isn’t another product that comes close when it comes to designing presentations and literature
Pros: Being able to create literature and presentation for any client with any brand and having full flexibility over design and layout
Cons: Some glitches within the software making previews glitch and needing to be up to date to with software versions for some files.

Ive been using it since before when it was Pagemaker and then went to Indesign. Adobe has great software for designers.
Pros: Great software, I like the automatic numbering of pages for books, programs, etc. I love how you can drag drop from other adobe softwares. You can set up master style sheets for headlines, body text, subheads, etc, so everything with match exactly. I highly recommend this to anyone.
Cons: You cannot draw in it. I wish they would bring some features from Illustrator into InDesign so you can draw more. Wish I could make printer pdf spreads from pdfs like you used to be able to do directly in the software.

Pros: Adobe InDesign is excellent for creating professional layouts like brochures, presentations, and print-ready documents. The tools are powerful, and once you get used to it, designing complex layouts becomes very smooth.
Cons: It takes time to learn, especially for beginners. The subscription cost can also feel high if you don’t use it frequently for large projects.

Great tool for designing templates and doing some basic image editing. It is flexible, versatile and very comprehensive in how much customization it allows.
Pros: InDesign is incredible tool for designing templates and documents that allows for great flexibility and customization. Objects and designs are created are versatile and increase high resolution which allows for high quality print designs. The user interface has a learning curve but once learned, it is very comprehensive.
Cons: The user interface can feel a little clunky at times on smaller screens or on a laptop screen. I understand that this is due to how comprehensive the tools, but it can make it difficult to see everything on one screen at once.

Pros: The software offered me an extremely complete set of tools. I especially appreciated the advanced text management, the high-quality typography, and the flexibility of the templates. InDesign also allowed me to create very polished documents suited for both digital and print.
Cons: The tool sometimes felt a bit demanding for new users. Some features required a learning curve, but once I got the hang of them, the overall experience was very smooth.

Having switched from Quark XPress many many years ago, InDesign has evolved into a power piece of desktop publishing software. It's range of features and integration with the rest of the Adobe suite make this an essential application for our design team.
Pros: Adobe InDesign allows my team and I to consistently create high quality, professional print ready publications.
Cons: It's inability to work effectively from files saved on network drives means i have to copy files to a local drive before working on them.

I've been using InDesign since it was Aldus PageMaker (over 30 years), and have never been more disappointed. Adobe is moving into a subscription-based model to boost profits while cutting corners (a recent forced "upgrade" removed access the entire Pantone library of colors). If you're looking to get started in layout, use a web-based option, or consider QuarkXpress or Corel Draw. These fat-cat companies need to be called out on their cheap practices.
Pros: I've been using InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop for decades. They do the same functions as expected, until recently when they refused to pay for Pantone color access. Makes me wonder how much functionality will be lost in future "upgrades."
Cons: Subscription based, no Pantone color library access. Less and less features, more and more cost. Web-based, free options are taking the design world by storm and will soon out-pace Adobe products, and similar.

Pros: InDesign being an Adobe product makes it so easy to use and connect with other Adobe programs, all the features that it offers makes my work so much easier.
Cons: My least favorite part is not being able to work with vector graphics directly in the program and having to switch back-and-forth to illustrator.

I have been using it for studies, personal projects and work for many years, and I believe I have not yet discovered even half of its potential.
Pros: A complete software package for designing books, magazines, flyers and digital presentations, offering many possibilities in both digital and physical formats.
Cons: It does not offer many options for simple photo editing, nor does it offer many vector editing options, so for any minor touch-ups you will need to use other software.

Overall, I love using InDesign to create books, posters, and other print media. I do not use it for creating web pages or other formats that it can create.
Pros: I love the ease of duplicating print layouts and expanding book layouts in intuitive ways. The follow-up step of creating templates for future use is incredibly easy.
Cons: The learning curve is a bit steep and the tool shortcuts differ from other Adobe products, which requires either customizing them to match or learning a new set of shortcuts.

Pros: What can I say, Adobe is a guarantee. The tool is extremely versatile, it has tons of functions and for being from the adobe suite is quite intuitive
Cons: As every adobe suite product, the learning curve is high, but once your learn how to use it, it's amazing

Overall, the more I learn how to use Adobe InDesign, the more helpful it becomes. You have to invest a decent amount of time in the learning process but it could not be more worth it.
Pros: Perfect for creating original internal and external company communications, especially thought leadership articles, 1-pagers, etc. The level of customization lends to high-quality branded items.
Cons: Images placed can lose their quality during the design process and the export process. A lot of this can be fixed with specific export settings, however, sometimes I need to restart the program to get the images to export/appear clearly. This could be a bug.

It's pretty easy and straightforward! Anyone can work this thing. Just takes a little bit of elbow grease.
Pros: I like how flexible and creative you can get! I didn't have a administrative background but this really helped me to get experience and start to learning how to create signs and posters!
Cons: I hate how laggy it can get. It pout with certain commands or when I am trying to convert it to another doc.

InDesign is my trusty workhorse in the design space - particularly for print design it is essential.
Pros: Indesign is a bit of a 'jack-of-all-trades'. You can create anything from print to digital and social. There are so many features to use, and more are always being added. It is an essential item in any designer's toolkit.
Cons: InDesign does require training to use - study a lot of videos online, or better yet, if you know someone who uses it, get them to give you a run-through. Also, without the right settings for your use case, you will not produce things to the best quality for your project.

SUPER POUR FAIRE DES BROCHURES ET DES MAGAZINES. TRÈS PUISSANT MAIS FAUT UN PEU DE TEMPS POUR COMPRENDRE AU DÉBUT
Pros: GESTION PRÉCISE DU TEXTE ET DES STYLES. TOP POUR UN RENDU PRO. S’INTÈGRE BIEN AVEC PHOTOSHOP ET ILLUSTRATOR.
Cons: CHER SI C’EST JUSTE POUR UTILISER DE TEMPS EN TEMPS. PAS ÉVIDENT POUR LES DÉBUTANTS ET FAUT UN BON ORDI POUR QUE ÇA TOURNE BIEN.

Pros: Adding text boxes, placing images, or changing page templates in InDesign happens almost instantly. The program therefore brings solid help for everyday layout jobs
Cons: When a document reaches many hundreds of pages, the application pauses while I open the Pages panel or create a print‑ready package. The preflight checker also labels safe fonts as errors now and then, which means another round of checks.
Tabarak A. · Graphic Designer · Design · May 6, 2025
Pros: Adobe InDesign is a powerful design tool with a lot of flexibility
Cons: I personally found that InDesign has a very steep learning curve
Ellie S. · Senior Marketing Campaigns Lead · Education Management · April 24, 2025
I've been using it for 2 decades and it's the most reliable software for designing print pieces like brochures, proposals and booklets.
Pros: It offers a wide range of design abilities and tools to meet all my design needs for business and personal use.
Cons: There isn't much I can say don't like about InDesign, but I can't always keep up with the new tools and technologies.
