While I was working with my employer I really miss best notes. I truly love the ease and back end of this product
Pros: This is a well thought emr. Great honest and real customer service is available always and always outshining everyone else
Cons: Truly there's nothing I don't like. It is easy to use and very friendly. They listen to use and are always upgrading.

Pros: Flexible and applicable; easy to add group notes; point and click notes make documentation quick and easy
Cons: Cannot edit intake documents to meet our needs; have inquired about being able to adjust intake documents to meet our format

Cons: No ASAM 5 What I liked least about BestNotes was the overall user experience. The interface often feels outdated and cluttered, which makes navigating between notes, client information, and documentation tools slower than it should be. Some features feel unintuitive, requiring extra clicks or searching through menus just to complete simple tasks. Because the layout isn’t very streamlined, it can be frustrating for new users and time-consuming for busy professionals who need to document quickly. Customization options are limited, so it’s difficult to tailor the system to a team’s specific workflow. While functional, BestNotes could benefit from a more modern, user-friendly design.

For an affordable system, it is fairly easy to use and I'm glad support is always willing to help. I have not had too many serious issues
Pros: Customer support has improved greatly. I appreciate that they can resolve most issues fairly quickly.
Cons: System down time. Seems like there have been several over the last few months mid-day. It challenges us when we are at time sensitive entries and data needs

I have been using BestNotes for years and I know how to do most of the things within the program. I would recommend it to anyone that needs an EMAR.
Pros: I know how to use it and customer service is pretty darn good. I would recommend it to anyone that needs an EMAR.
Cons: It is pretty user friendly. I would recommend it to anyone that needs an EMAR. Customer service is amazing.
Tiffany T. · Internal Audtior · Individual & Family Services · October 10, 2025
It's been pretty good overall, four stars.
Pros: The customer support is excellent; when I have an issue I get to talk to a human right away, and you've usually got an answer for me.
Cons: I have had frequent episodes of the application slowing down or stalling out completely lately. I wish the patient portal was easier for patients to navigate.

Good. Help Desk responds quickly to inquiries. Would recommend it (and have already done so) to other residential programs.
Pros: Easy to use, easy to fix errors, color coding of appointments, quick responses from the Help Desk when needed.
Cons: New users cannot see calendar appointments from before their start date. This is very frustrating and difficult.
Jennifer H. · BRS Program Manager · Government Relations · October 10, 2025
I would recommend for EMR. I like how when I call someone can help me right there vs a ticket. People are always nice
Pros: I can call they they fix or walk through me issues or concerns right there. I never liked the ticket system. When I need something I need it now.
Cons: Still feels like DOS. Billing is not easy. It doesn't flow with collabeMD very easily. I wish it was more user friendly don't like tickets

It is one of the best EHRs I've used. It works will in house. There are issues when trying to get signatures from parents.
Pros: BestNotes.is user friendly and tech support is responsive, friendly, and helpful. They seem to strive to improve the product.
Cons: At times there are updates done that we, as users, don't always hear about. I have seen improvement in this over the past year. I've also have functionality issues with the parent portal.
Aaron A. · Clinical Director · Mental Health Care · September 8, 2025
It was user friendly. Any time I had to contact customer care it was handled right away. I really enjoyed using Best Notes. I prefer Best Notes over anything I have used over the last 10 years.
Pros: WhaI loved most about Best Notes is everything was on one platform. Seeing everything from assessments to group notes right on the first screen made it easy to find things. Searching for clients and making it easy to addd multiple stays as in just adding an episode. Having an app also makes it easy to look at stuff on the go.
Cons: There wasn't really anything I didn't like about Best Notes. It was really easy to train people and have everything right there. One thing that could make it better is having a dashboard with all current clients on it.

It has been great.[sensitive content hidden] have been wonderful to talk to. I used Kipu at another facility but did not know the functionality, from what I saw it seemed like a lot of extra work for underwhelming reporting. I am also biased because I have been primarily using BestNotes since around 2013. I know about as much as I need to, and when I don't BestNotes support has been fantastic about responding and educating.
Pros: I like having the ability to create templates that are suitable for providers without having to contact BestNotes for support. When I have needed to contact support they were very helpful in completing the task I needed, but they also educated me on their system and how to better use it for our needs.
Cons: I wish that there was a way to populate table data into a template that we have created. This would save a lot of manual data entry time and/or prevent asking a patient the same questions multiple times. Most everything else there is a workable solution to getting what we need.
Justin P. · Director of Operations · Hospital & Health Care · August 26, 2025
User interface could be better and ability to upload multiple documents at one time would be helpful.
Pros: Good security. I don't think it's very user friendly. I've been using it so long now that I get it but the interface isn't user friendly.
Cons: You can only upload 1 document at a time. The patient portal isn't very user friendly. We always have problems onboarding clients to the portal.
Julie I. · Client Care Coordinator · Mental Health Care · August 22, 2025
The staff at BestNotes are always there to help, and very friendly and polite. They have top notch customer service.
Pros: BestNotes is an easy to navigate and comprehensive EMR for behavioral health. I have been using BN for over 15 years now. I like how I can access client information efficiently, and document thoroughly.
Cons: I struggle with how the calendar doesn't let you send invitations outside the organization. This makes scheduling difficult.
Michael S. · Clinical Director · Mental Health Care · August 22, 2025
Absolutely amazing customer service! We have been using Bestnotes for our electronic medical records for 5 years and have always had nearly immediate responses and resoultions to our very few concerns over the years. The team at Bestnotes is always there to help, to listen to our suggestions, and to implement in a way that allows us to work smarter, not harder.
Pros: Great customer support no matter the situation! The team at Bestnotes has always been helpful in responding to and resolving concerns.
Cons: Lack of ASAM 4th Edition updates in Clinical paperwork that coincided with the Kentucky start date of 7/1/25 to begin utilizing the 4th Edition.
Jennifer E. · Director of Clinical Services · Hospital & Health Care · August 22, 2025
Pros: Ease of use is getting better with some of the more recent updates. Also, customer service are top notch. Thwy are very quick qith a response and a fix.
Cons: Logs off too often when inactive for a few minutes. Also, if accidentally hit the exit button, no matter if click on cancel or continue, it will log off
Trina R. · HR admin Asst · Medical Practice · August 22, 2025
Overall, my experience with our EMR system has been pretty good. I like that it keeps everything in one place, making it easier to stay organized and compliant. It saves time compared to doing things on paper and helps with communication across staff.
Pros: All client information, notes, and treatment plans are stored in one place and are easy to access with built-in safeguards that help ensure documentation meets legal, insurance, and accreditation requirements.
Cons: Forms and templates that don’t fully match program needs, including data exports and reports, can be clunky or hard to configure.
Andrea H. · Program Director · Mental Health Care · August 21, 2025
Bestnotes is very easy to use; when used to its full potential and correctly, it is an amazing tools where clinicians are very happy to spend minimum time on the platform to document interactions and administrative staff can pull the data to analyze.
Pros: Bestnotes software is easy to utilize and provides a variety of pathways to document, pull data and analyze it.
Cons: Several times the portal crashed during documentation and staff had to redo their documentation. Otherwise, no real cons. The prescription setting is also not user friendly for our psychiatric provider.
Roxanne L. · Administrator · Mental Health Care · August 21, 2025
It is a very comprehensive electronic health record and continues to add features and stay up with best practices.
Pros: The staff is great and always helpful. I love the training offered. BN is easy to use. I love those areas that can be personalized to meet the needs of our agency.
Cons: Some standard forms are not quite what we need them to be. Changes can take time to implement. The individual in our agency who can make changes to BN is difficult to get connected with, so there should be more people trained to be an administrator.

Very helpful resident record process. Easy to add new staff. adaptable as we discover new issues that we need to keep track of.
Pros: After we began using Best Notes it has made our record keeping very easy and helpful. All staff have quick access to what the current status of our residents is. We do not use the billing aspect, nor the patient portal. Security is tight and will log you off if not actively in use.
Cons: the billing per user makes NO exceptions for anything unusual. We had a staff member on line for 2 days and were billed for the whole month.
James K. · DIrector of counseling · Individual & Family Services · August 20, 2025
I've had a great experience. Working with best notes makes my job a lot more simple and is very time efficient.
Pros: Its easy to follow and navigate. The fields are easy to access and they align well. I like that you can unlock notes incaee there was a mistake made.
Cons: I dont see any issues with it. Everything operates smoothly. The only thing I've remotely struggled with is having to log in every time it times out.
Brandi G. · Adult Peer Support Specialist · Mental Health Care · August 20, 2025
“Overall, my experience with BestNotes was positive. It made documentation and communication more efficient, and once I got used to the system, it really streamlined my workflow. There were some learning curves at the beginning, but the benefits outweighed the challenges.”
Pros: I like how user-friendly BestNotes is—it keeps everything in one place from progress notes, treatment plans, and assessments to scheduling and client communication.” “I appreciated that BestNotes is HIPAA-compliant and makes documentation much faster, which gave me more time to focus on clients instead of paperwork.” “The integration between the calendar, notes, and tasks kept me organized and helped with continuity of care.”
Cons: “Some of the features felt a little clunky at first, and it took time to get used to navigating everything.” “Occasionally it felt like too many clicks to finish a note or find the information I needed quickly.” “The mobile version wasn’t as smooth as the desktop, which made it harder to use on the go.”
westley d. · APSS CSA · Mental Health Care · August 20, 2025
After daily use, Ive gotten pretty comfortable with the program. I still have a lot to explore and I learn more about it every day.
Pros: Its fairly easy to use. I like the color coordination for making notes and billing. I think that its very well secured, i like that it logs you out after a short period of being away for the clients confidentiality.
Cons: When I first started using it, I was very overwhelmed because it looked hectic and there was too much going on.
Jadi M. · Targeted Case Manager · Mental Health Care · August 20, 2025
It’s been a great experience. It’s easy to train with once somebody is shown how to use it. There’s really not much going back and retraining.
Pros: It is user-friendly. I really enjoy knowing how to navigate and I wouldn’t choose another system just because of that.
Cons: I wish it had the AI technology built into it. I really don’t know what else to say besides that I love best notes.
Jeremy S. · COO · Health, Wellness and Fitness · August 20, 2025
I use BestNotes daily and it helps me out when I'm trying to recover patient records in a pinch. The medicine tab helps me during the day when logging in patients medications.
Pros: Very easy navigation throughout the entire site. All medical facilities need to use this software. It's the best.
Cons: Not being able to pull up past patients by last name that are no longer with the company. Past active makes you go through all and not narrow it down to who you need.
Rachelle G. · Intake Coordinator · Hospital & Health Care · August 20, 2025
We have had personal staff development training with Best Notes. All our questions and concerns are addressed. The do not provide canned presentations. The staff at Best Notes tailors your presentation to you needs and provides follow-up.
Pros: The customer care department is very helpful. They respond to concerns with "human" contact. I also like the user friendly set-up of the program. It is easy to navigate.
Cons: The time zone is not based on east coast. So, I have to wait at times to contact someone in person. It has not been a major issue to date.
