Shopify POS helps small retail teams manage in-person and online sales with real-time inventory syncing and mobile checkout tools. It’s most used by small businesses in retail and consumer goods. Reviewers highlight its ease of use and payment flexibility, though pricing and limited offline functionality are common drawbacks. Recent updates support multi-store reporting and pre-launch checks.

Its great, I use it online to take payments from customers and I also use it in person if a customer doesn't have cash
Pros: Its super easy to set up and it makes it easy to take payments online and in person. You can send invoices and receipts easily.
Cons: Its way to expensive on my opinion. Every transaction had a percentage that thou have to pay just for someone making a payment.

Pros: Super easy now that we can tango scan cards. This was such a great upgrade when we do pop ups in person
Cons: I haven’t had many negative feelings about it. Sometimes it is a bit annoying for custom product lines but it’s a learning process

Overall, it’s been a reliable and scalable platform for our business. We’re able to turn YouTube traffic into purchases without friction, and that’s been huge. While it takes some initial setup to make it work for digital products and content funnels, once it’s dialed in, it runs smoothly. It gives us the confidence that when we send traffic — especially from YouTube — the backend will hold up and convert. For a growing brand, that reliability matters more than anything.

Pros: Even though we primarily use Shopify for digital products tied to our YouTube funnel, the biggest win is how seamlessly everything connects. Checkout is smooth, reliable, and converts well — which matters a lot when traffic is coming from video. It’s easy to set up products, manage offers, and integrate with tools we’re already using. We also love the flexibility — whether it’s one-time purchases, bundles, or limited-time offers, it’s all pretty straightforward to implement without needing a developer.
Cons: Shopify isn’t really built for digital-first businesses out of the box, so there’s some workaround required. Things like delivering digital content, managing access, or customizing post-purchase flows often rely on third-party apps or extra setup. It can also get expensive once you start stacking apps to make everything work the way you want. Reporting is solid, but not always tailored to how we think about funnels or content-driven sales.

Overall, Shopify POS is a powerful solution, especially for businesses already using Shopify for e-commerce. It creates a very easy connection between online and in-person sales, making operations easier to handle.
Pros: What I like the most about Shopify POS is how easily it connects with the Shopify overall platform. If you’re already using Shopify for your online store, having your online sales and store integrated is the best advantage it offers. Inventory, customer data, and orders are all synced in real time, which makes managing the business much more efficient and reduces errors.
Cons: What I don’t like is the cost structure and the fact that it works best and its way easier when you re using all Shopify tools integrated to the system. Therefore, besides the Shopify subscription, it can become expensive when you need to upgrade your plan to use some of the features not available in the basic plan, plus getting the Shopify tools for compatibility. Another downside is that it’s heavily retail-focused. If your business isn’t centered around selling physical products, or if you need more specialized POS features, it may feel limiting. NerdWallet Also, some features (like advanced reporting, staff management, or customization) are locked behind higher plans, which can be frustrating as you grow.

Pros: Great pos system. Easy to use no learning curve. Easy to process payments. Makes it simple to manage inventory as well.
Cons: I enjoy everything about this simple and easy pos system I can’t think of one issue I’ve had with any part of it.

I worked with Shopify at my previous company and it is a great tool to make sure a person can take care of everything if it is not a big company.
Pros: It is a great integrated system, where you can track your orders, inventory, and efficiently send your products to your customers.
Cons: It could be quite difficult to learn on how to use the system, as it might be challenging when setting everything up.

I use Shopify POS for customer transactions and it makes life simple for staff and the customer as well!
Pros: I like how easy Shopify POS is to use. Everything is laid out very simple and makes customer transactions simple!
Cons: I find without an update every few weeks or months, Shopify POS tends to slow down. Once updated it works great!
Mikaela S. · Assistant Manager · Consumer Goods · March 19, 2026
Pros: Shopify POS makes it easy to enter orders and process payments for clients, it's vital for avoiding affiliate fees when using an incognito window
Cons: The interface can sometimes seem a bit outdated although Shopify has been very good about consistently updating the UI
Fletcher S. · Customer Experience Supervisor · Hospitality · March 19, 2026
Shopify POS is easy to integrate into your inventory system and its interface is user friendly but the high fees and software glitches cause frustration.
Pros: This system is very easy to set up, user friendly, and pretty intuitive to use. The synchronization between online and in store was very smooth!
Cons: We experience occasional software glitches and disconnected scanners, printers and equipment. Fees are a little pricey

Shopify has been one of the easiest platforms I’ve worked with for building online stores. It handles most of the technical parts so the focus can stay on the storefront and the visual experience.
Pros: Setting up products and collections is simple, and the themes available make it easier to create a store that looks professional. I also like how many integrations are available.
Cons: As the store grows, relying on additional apps can become necessary , which may add extra costs .

We ran an online store for 4 years before adding POS. It was a no brainer decision for us since we were very happy with shopify and knew this wouldnt take much to setup. It has been great to use and integrates seamlessly with our online ordering system
Pros: Shopify POS is a nicely packaged POS option that works great if you already have a shopify store. It uses the shopify catalog for your ecommerce site which basically mean zero setup. Buy a tablet and card reader and you're running!
Cons: Some more customization would be nice on the receipt. It would be cool to be able to add some more design options to it to allow it to look custom for your business. Other than just the logo

Shopify is widely regarded as an industry-leading, user-friendly e-commerce platform, ideal for quickly launching online stores without needing coding expertise. It offers excellent, secure, and fast-loading checkout experiences with strong POS integration
Pros: Shopify POS is seamless, real-time integration between online and physical stores. Users highly value that inventory, customer data, and sales are automatically synchronized across all channels, eliminating the need to manually reconcile stock or customer records.
Cons: I believe significant drawbacks to Shopify POS include high costs for necessary features, which adds an additional $89 per month
Dusiant S. · Senior computer engineer · Program Development · February 9, 2026
I will be a continued user for all of my shopify needs. The data tracking, streamling; everything is worth it.
Pros: After using similar softwares, it was so pleasant to find out that Shopify has mimicked the same software, integrated directly with their primary application. Has everything you are looking for out of a POS, within Shopify itself.
Cons: Difficult to integrate into your current Shopify. It felt like there weren't enough resources to garner the knowledge necessary to integrate.

My overall experience with Shopify POS has been great. It’s user-friendly, efficient, and perfect for in-person sales, pop-ups, and events. It helps my business run smoothly and keeps everything synced in one system.
Pros: What I like most about Shopify POS is it keeps everything in one place—inventory, payments, and customer info—so checkout is fast and stress-free.
Cons: What I like least about Shopify POS is that the cost of add-ons and upgrades can feel expensive, especially for small businesses just getting started.
Regina B. · Owner · Events Services · January 24, 2026
Pros: Processing payments are super easy and the e-commerce options are relatively easy to set up. Security also can’t be beat.
Cons: The mobile app and dashboard could have more functionality and options. There was also a bit of a learning curve while first trying the service.
Thomas V. · Market research interviewer · Market Research · January 15, 2026
It is a very reliable system. It connects everything in one place, making it easy to manage sales and customers without any stress.
Pros: The sync between my online store and physical shop is perfect. It makes tracking inventory across both locations very easy.
Cons: The hardware can be expensive, and some advanced features require a higher monthly plan, which adds up quickly.
Anonymous User · Engineer · Accounting · January 9, 2026
I love that it's on my phone or tablet so I have quick access to check inventory or even take an order with payment.
Pros: I absolutely love Shopify POS. This program makes it easy to manage your inventory in real time. The website is easy to understand and navigate. Payment processing is fast and easy and the added security makes it a total win win. Great value!
Cons: I haven't found anything that I dislike about Shopify POS. Like I said it's an easy system to help with multiple areas
Brandi H. · Owner · Apparel & Fashion · January 4, 2026
I have used it for over five years and after switching from woocommerce for my online company, it has been worth the investment. Everything is easy to use, the back of house updates with inventory, visuals, SEO, titles, etc., all work in real time.
Pros: Ease of use when checking out clients on the go. Being able to integrate seamlessly with other apps to enhance the checkout experience like gift card balances, rewards balance for points, etc.
Cons: I haven’t had a bad experience with pos. I’m able to use my pin to easily sign uh. The only hiccups I have is when there are software updates and I have to ensure I’m using inventory from the right location.
Dr. Mario C. M. · Founder · Apparel & Fashion · December 15, 2025
I really liked it and how friendly it looked. It didnt look like a coded old system that you would have to stare at for hours
Pros: Its interface is easy to use and does not feel overwhelming to learn or use. It allows for mistakes and to correct what was put in
Cons: The way certain tools would not work correctly so we would need to be on the phone to correct it. But it might've been our system and not the tool we were using
Shauna H. · Accounts Payable · Accounting · October 27, 2025
Pros: Easy to use and train employees. Inventory management is a breeze and integrates with every tool we used. Payment processing is a breeze and tracking customer profiles, well worth the money.
Cons: Initial set up is a little tedious, but once everything is up and running and synchronized it is a dream.
ANDREY V. · CEO · Marketing and Advertising · October 22, 2025
Easy to build and use my site, responsive customer service. A mostly positive experience as far as tracking my sales and such.
Pros: The learning curve with Shopify is fairly easy. They have tutorials, and a lot of the stuff necessary is intuitive. I never had issues with the security features, or with bugs or glitches. You do need a few plugins for a fully functional store, but most of them have free options.
Cons: The marketing opportunities on Shopify aren't as easy to find as I'd hoped, and so my ROI wasn't as high as it could have been.
Cheri R. · CEO · Publishing · October 17, 2025
I use Shopify POS on a monthly basis. It has served me well as both a seller and a customer. I would recommend Shopify POS to others looking for an ecommerce tool.
Pros: Shopify POS is easy to learn and use. This program facilitates online sales through automation, making the process simpler for the customer, as well as the seller.
Cons: I haven't had any issues with Shopify POS. I feel it is as secure as its best competition. Perhaps other users have experienced more bugs than I have.
Kimberly B. · College Professor · Education Management · October 2, 2025
Overall great and an effective selling tool that staff and customers like. It helps you keep track of inventory for loss and ordering very easily.
Pros: Very straight-forward, easy for customers to make transactions online and in-store, great for inventory tracking, and easy process for refunds or exchanges and well as automatically applying and processing sales and discounts.
Cons: The cost is reasonable but not stellar depending on the size of your business. There are some bugs amd issues depending on how familiar you are with setting up your products and sales.
Tori S. · Owner and Certified Cat Trainer · Consumer Services · September 18, 2025
Overall, Shopify POS has made managing both my online and in-store sales much easier. It keeps everything in one place, reduces inventory mistakes, and helps streamline operations.
Pros: It was seamlessly easy for Shopify POS to connect with my online Shopify store. Inventory stays synced automatically, and the interface is very clean and intuitive. Checkout is fast, and it lets my customers do contactless pay.
Cons: Some features require payment like detailed reporting and staff permissions. Offline mode is a bit limited, it works, but not as smoothly as when online.
Aaron A. · Sales and Marketing · Business Supplies and Equipment · September 17, 2025
It was great, shopify takes care of most of the things automaticLly its best to however double check and keep it simple.
Pros: Shopify POS has a wide range of features, their payment processing is smooth and easy along with their inventory management syster which keeps tracks of instore and that in the warehouse
Cons: Sometimes, if the products are returned its hard to manage inventory for the pos as mostly what would happen is that people use to return items and we had to manually update the pos for the number of items left
