Pros: I really like the security, clinical information, and patient management aspects of this software and a lot of options were available for interdisciplinary team members.
Cons: My least favorite aspects about Kipu software was that it was kind of difficult to navigate at the beginning, it wasn't very intuitive interface and had a high learning curve that other teammates had to teach me to use.

i just don't get why it's so confusing with different logins and bugs. support doesn't help out. i'm going to switch to bestnotes or something else idk.
Pros: The support used to be great but has gotten much worse over time. I wish it was the old support representatives but we keep getting swapped around.
Cons: Price. I feel like i'm getting hounded to pay more for more add-ons. Did they change owners or something? also why are there separate logins for the RCM and EMR??? and i heard the CRM is also a separate login.

Overall, my experience with Kipu has been positive. It’s a powerful and flexible system that does a great job supporting behavioral health workflows and improving organization-wide efficiency. While there are some areas that could be more streamlined, the benefits and functionality make it a strong solution for practices in this space.
Pros: Kipu is very well designed for behavioral health and addiction treatment settings, which makes documentation, scheduling, and treatment planning feel more aligned with real clinical workflows. The platform offers strong customization options and useful features like integrated billing, reporting, and patient management tools, helping streamline operations and improve efficiency. Overall, it’s a comprehensive, all-in-one system that supports both clinical and administrative needs.
Cons: One downside is the cost structure, which can feel high and somewhat fragmented with multiple add-ons and fees. Some features—like treatment planning—can be complex and take time to fully learn or use effectively. Additionally, certain workflows may require extra steps, which can slow things down at times.

Their customer service is great is you have a support member assigned to you. If not, you have access to customize and troubleshot as a super admin, and it is user friendly to be able to use.
Pros: That it is so customizable. If you are a super admin, you can create templates however you would like, specific to each area, and can be used for numerous disciplines.
Cons: It can feel a little clunky to use, which takes additional time when charting. However you can use check box options to get around this.

Kipu is a secure software to use and one that keeps you updated. It has many options so you are not stranded.
Pros: I’ve been using Kipu for our behavioral health documentation, and overall it has been a positive experience. The system is designed specifically for addiction and mental health treatment, which makes charting and treatment planning more straightforward compared to general EHR platforms. I appreciate the structured templates and the ability to customize notes to fit our workflow.
Cons: There was a bit of a learning curve at first, but once the team became familiar with it, documentation became more efficient. It has helped us stay organized and maintain compliance. While no system is perfect, Kipu has been a reliable solution for our needs.

Pretty useful for keeping everything easy to access. Still has bugs that need worked out. From what I've seen it is the best out there for what we need as a company.
Pros: User friendly. A lot of options to keep everything organized. Very good about selecting whom has access to what. Live how it saves every time I input something.
Cons: Bugs. At least a couple times a week it lags really bad. Randomly it will fail to open files. Closes out of nowhere from time to time.

As a small behavioral health practice managing multiple clinical and pseudo-clinical roles for approximately 400 patients, Kipu provided valuable tools in billing and customization that supported our operational needs. However, the lack of intuitive task management and integration features often complicated daily workflows, requiring workarounds that reduced efficiency. The treatment plan module was particularly underutilized due to its complexity. Overall, while the system has targeted strengths, the escalating costs proved unsustainable, prompting us to evaluate alternatives despite the initial benefits in specific areas.
Pros: Robust Billing Sweeps: Kipu excels in its billing sweeps feature, which streamlines the process of identifying and processing outstanding claims, making revenue cycle management more efficient for behavioral health practices. Extensive Customization Options: The platform allows for nearly limitless customization of the instance and documents, enabling practices to tailor workflows, forms, and interfaces to specific needs without significant limitations.
Cons: $7f

For me as an admin person, I really love Kipu. I love the ability to create and edit my own forms. I loved that I was able to learn a lot on the back end.
Pros: I like how I was able to build or edit my own forms. I love the chat feature. I like how the nurses can order and send prescriptions within the the same place. I love the dashboard and the filters on the side bar.
Cons: No cons for me at this moment. I know billing and other departments have some issues within the system.
Erica O. · HR · Mental Health Care · September 2, 2025
Pros: Easy to navigate the dashboard and find patients. Very user friendly interface to use
Cons: The history and physical is kind of limiting and does not fully incorporate psych components for admissions
Ugochi I. · Nurse Practitioner · Mental Health Care · May 13, 2025
I would recommend kipu over other EMR systems.
Pros: The very easy to use system. It wasn’t hard to catch on either.
Cons: The constant hiccups with the system and the rate at it moving slowly at times

Just ok but could use some improvement from a nursing point of view.
Pros: As a nurse it is a fairly simple to use product. It looks modern and is not a "cluttered" program.
Cons: Not a real "task list" like hospital EMR's have. I wish there were a home screen timeline of tasks. I wish that the screen did not refresh every time a PRN medication is selected. It would be so much faster to complete med pass if it just had check boxes for the PRNs and you could select multiple at one time. The program would make communicating between the entire care team easier if there were some types of notifications to the providers when notes were placed by nursing into the client's charts. Being able to input vital signs from the information page of the client's chart would be nice as to not have to click two pages to get there.

Excellent experience overall and would highly recommend.
Pros: Kipu has an interface that is easy to use even for new users. Compared to othe ERMs it has always been my favorite.
Cons: Reporting features could be easier to use. Takes some time to learn.

They are too commercial . They just want your money . No need to pay $560 for maintenance and more daily charges whereas you can get very good platforms at 10 percent KIPU price
Pros: The are friendly when you are signing up
Cons: VERY PRICEY ! Stay away . When you need your records for an audit they will not allow you to access them if you don’t have an active account ! There is other systems that do the same thing at 10% the price
Titus M. · Admin · Mental Health Care · August 30, 2024
Pros: Kipu makes it easy complete documentation efficiently
Cons: Navigating between documentation days and seeing what has been completed for individual clients can be time consuming
Aneesah S. · Substance Abuse Counseler · Mental Health Care · June 22, 2024
Overall this is a much better system than the competitors system. I love using KIPU.
Pros: It has the necessary complexity to ensure all records are maintained along with the legal aspects all the while providing ease of use.
Cons: Having immediate customer support is not always easy.

Cons: it dosent take off some things that have already been documented
justin b. · patient service rep · Medical Practice · June 11, 2024
It's everything you want in an electronic medical program. After a two-month "learning curve," I was able to appreciate all of the everyday benefits of the KIPU EMR. My company relies heavily on KIPU for communication with each other. Everyone in our office uses it, and we can see each other's entries.
Pros: I like being able to share documents with Clients' parents, allow them to review the documents online, and have the parent sign the document even though they are not in the same room with you. Parents can be in another state or another part of the country, and they can still access any document I share with them.
Cons: It took me approximately two months to learn all of the tools needed to make KIPU an "everyday" user friendly system for myself. I like everything about KIPU. It's (now) easy to navigate, and it's the "end all, be all" system for all of my company's electronic medical record needs.
Ken F. · Child Care Administrator · Medical Practice · June 11, 2024
Pros: Kipu very organized, user friendly and secure.
Cons: It does log you out very often, but it is necessary to keep sensitive information for clients.
Andrew C. · Recovery Support Technician · Mental Health Care · June 11, 2024
Pros: It's easy to use, and has support and easy to understand.
Cons: There should be some new forms to help with therapy notes.
April G. · Primary Therapist · Hospital & Health Care · June 11, 2024

Heidi R. · LAC · Mental Health Care · June 10, 2024

Tami S. · Peer support specialist · Medical Practice · June 9, 2024
As for myself I love Kipu , it’s a easy system to do for entering clients information.
Pros: That it very self explanatory and easy to do.
Cons: The password changes every three months. Especially when you used to going in and out on a daily basis.

Pros: It is simple and easy for some of our staff including me to learn how to use it when I first started out with ARC.
