Gem is a great tool both for day-to-day recruiting productivity and for leadership visibility. It saves time, improves collaboration, and provides strong insights, but the cost and ATS limitations should be considered depending on your stack.
Pros: Gem is extremely easy to use. Setting up sequences is quick and practical, and the wide range of placeholders makes it easy to personalize outreach at scale. I really value the ability to add notes and tags to candidates, which makes team collaboration smooth and transparent. From a recruiter’s perspective, it feels almost like an ATS — the filters are very detailed, and you can scrape/search efficiently when looking for specific profiles. Another big plus is being able to reuse your own database and talent pools over time, which reduces reliance on external sourcing tools. From a team lead perspective, the reporting dashboards make it easy to track pipeline health and recruiter performance, which is very valuable for scaling teams.
Cons: It is on the expensive side, especially since you still need another tool for actual sourcing. Nowadays, many sourcing platforms also include emailing capabilities, which makes Gem feel like an additional investment. The ATS integrations also feel somewhat limited at times and require extra checks.

Cons: The product is very effective. I have not found flaws associated with its implementation.

The tool can definitely be improved to improve the sourcer/recruiter experience but I'm glad GEM is part of our sourcing workflow!
Pros: I particularly like the collaboration possibilities in GEM. I'm heavily relying on shared projects with my teammates and finding a good workflow is easy with GEM.
Cons: I wish GEM (1) could improve the filtering options in projects because filtering isn't the smoothest experience I've had so far and the tool has the potential for more and (2) could give us more freedom in building our own dashboards. There are many widgets available (which is great) but it makes it hard to quickly build the dashboards we want - we have to play around with the tool before, in order to find the best variables.

Used to use and adopt to however lacks important features other softwares provides
Pros: It’s easy to use and provides valuable analytics on candidates
Cons: You can’t download the candidate list which is frustrating and it is lacking other features

Pros: Gem is a useful tool for finding contact information and creating nurture campaigns easily. Its easy to use and started building out a marketing and an ATS, so having a Gem ecosystem.
Cons: the support could be much better, working with support on problems is slow.
Tommy Y. · Director of Recruiting · Security and Investigations · November 1, 2023
its an ok product now, it used to be a game changer but it's not innovating enough
Pros: It's way to manage new outbound candidates/prospects that you sourced to fit your openings.
Cons: It's getting to the point of asking..what else can GEM Do? Beyond managing / CRM / outbound....

Pros: It's really easy to use! Gem's integrations make leveraging data from event so easy. In the past, where other platforms don't encourage collaboration, Gem does.Gem is perfect for large teams with wide candidate pool in order to retain and share talent, which is super important in this new and competitive landscape.
Cons: Limited licenses can make the data analytics a bit manual when it comes to reviewing large sheets of data. My assumption is that this is to push you to get a pro license.
Rebecca A. · Event Marketer · Computer Software · April 26, 2023
Pros: This tool was overwhelming to understand at first- but only because it has so many features! I really enjoy how this tool allows me to manage my candidates all in one place- projects, notifications, reminders, etc. I especially enjoy: 1. How the notifications allow me to stay on top of my candidate pipeline, and 2. The detail of all the data in the dashboards! I've really enjoyed building out customized dashboards that allow me to better understand my top of funnel + overall recruiting process.
Cons: This is not a con for Gem, but more for LinkedIn. I just wish the LI integration was better.
Anonymous User · Recruiter · Computer Software · April 26, 2023
Pros: Gem seems really straightforward and easy to navigate! Our recruiting team is finding it really helpful!
Cons: In my role, there aren't many things that I dislike, I would say that maybe including a searchable FAQ page within the program to help troubleshoot if it doesn't already exist.
Karl H. · Recruiting Coordinator · Computer Software · April 26, 2023
Pros: I really like that Gem makes it easy to track my outreach stats and pipeline.
Cons: I wish that you were able to send LinkedIn messages directly through gem rather than setting sequences for LI messages and having to go back and send manually. It feels clunky at this stage still.
Kait A. · Recruiter · Computer Software · April 20, 2023
Access to data and keeping track of candidate outreach (sequences).
Pros: Gem makes it so easy to create projects and build talent pipelines using the Gem extension.
Cons: I sometimes have issues with boolean searches not yielding results. A simple refresh usually does the trick
Galo T. · Recruiting Coordinator · Computer Software · April 20, 2023
Positive!
Pros: Super helpful in terms of keeping track of candidates and standardizing workflows.
Cons: I personally feel like the interface looks a little jumbled at times. Additionally, I wish there was a way to remove people that you have already hired at your company from the candidate search.
Serena M. · Recruiting Coordinator · Computer Software · April 20, 2023
Nothing short of great!
Pros: I liked the ease of use and seamless set-up for automated workflows and candidate management. I also love that we can create campaign and keep candidates engaged through email campaigns.
Cons: I don't have any dislikes, I would have to explore more features in depth.
Anonymous User · Recruiting Coordinator · Computer Software · April 20, 2023
Great, easy to use.
Pros: Gem is perfect tool for reach outs and sourcing, especially for a big team to follow who has approached candidates in past or perhaps they have already been in the process. I havent use mach pipeline and status functions.
Cons: That I need to download pdf to move candidate to GEM
Anonymous User · Technical Recruiter · Translation and Localization · April 14, 2023
Gem has definitely made me a better recruiter and made my job easier.
Pros: Having reminders for InMails and getting emails sent automatically through gem is a GAME CHANGER. I am not the most organized person, so in the past I would have candidates fall through the cracks if I missed messaging them for 2nd, 3rd, 4th touch points. Now I get reminders or have it done automatically.
Cons: I cannot think of any cons of using Gem so far. I use it daily for candidate messaging and management, I have enjoyed it a ton.
Ryan S. · Recruiter, Technical Solutions · Computer Software · April 13, 2023
Pros: I love the amount of features I can leverage without feeling overwhelmed by the amount of information. Gem feels very intuitive and well-designed. The feature I love the most are sequences (and their analytics), which are the biggest time saver & continuous improvement tool when it comes to messaging candidates.
Cons: Although I love sequences, I wish there was a way to automate LinkedIn messages as well, which are currently semi-manual (still very intuitive with an easy copy/paste interface and reminders). The other thing I'm missing is more visual alerts on active candidates, so team mess-ups can be avoided for candidates who have recent activity or important notes in their activity tab, which sometimes doesn't show up in the sidebar overview.
Štěpán H. · Technical Sourcer · Information Technology and Services · April 5, 2023
I love the ability to schedule emails/texts/inmails. I don't have to copy paste templates and manually type the special parts in. I just add the parts to my "Reason" or extras, and it's put in for me! I also really enjoy the ability to text candidates without having to copy summaries into my ATS.
Pros: I LOVE the texting feature! It integrates with Greenhouse, so I can easily text candidates and it's automatically recorded in Greenhouse. I also love sequences and the ease of putting candidates into GEM and sending them personalized messages with little effort!
Cons: The extension sometimes struggles when you have a lot of tabs up, so I had to reduce my tab usage in order for it to function properly.
Anonymous User · Talent Acquisition Specialist · E-Learning · April 4, 2023
Pros: An easy tool to integrate and launch, Gem takes the manual effort of communicating with prospective talent and effectively automates and helps you improve through analysis and best practices.
Cons: Being automatically alerted when contact information is updated.
William U. · Director · Internet · April 4, 2023
Pros: The UI/UX and overall user-friendliness helps adoption and team-wide usage
Cons: Downloading linkedin profiles is a pain. and the reporting could be better with certain ATS
Max B. · Head of Talent Operations · Computer Software · February 23, 2023
My experience with Gem and the CS team has been great. It has helped me a lot with candidates' responses to my outreaches, so I would recommend it.
Pros: It makes the outreach process super easy and it helps to get more responses from candidates with the sequences.Integrates with a lot of tools, including our ATS (Greenhouse).Easy to use.Very helpful information in their guides.Amazing analytics tools.
Cons: I like everything about Gem, so I don't have any negative comments.
Sandra P. · Recruiter · Information Technology and Services · February 22, 2023
Good and good support
Pros: Its user friendly and adds value to my daily work
Cons: That you can't share it with people outside of your organisation (Ie create a project and share it with a client)
Merlene D. · Founder · Human Resources · February 9, 2023
My experience with GEM has been really good, once I was able to use the software for a while. It was a learning curve but the articles and questions to answers GEM provides are helpful. I do feel there could be even more clarification to questions. The answers seem limited.
Pros: I like that this software is user friendly, and it helps tremendously in outreaches to candidates. The data and analytics provided really give you a great look into trends and patterns which help the whole sourcing and recruiting process.
Cons: I do find in some areas, the process of sending outreaches could be more clear. Specifically sending emails, vs inmails, there are different steps after the process such as "TO DO's" that may be missed if you didn't know they were needed.
Anonymous User · Senior Sales Sourcer · Hospital & Health Care · February 3, 2023
In 2021 product was good But in 2022 the product went completely downhill following mass layoffs Account Management is unreachable, and customer support do not understand the productUser Account can be terminated at any point with no explanation Over 100,00 candidates lost Millions of dollars in potential deals down the drain
Pros: The text campaigns and sequences are very good
Cons: Less than 5% accurate emails for candidatesNo live chat for Customer SupportNo communication on the relationship with Account Management Resume search engine does not work The system does not prevent duplicate entries
David B. · David · Hospital & Health Care · February 2, 2023
Overall, I think Gem is an amazing tool. It's become a critical part of my sourcing toolkit. I especially cannot driving significant hiring volume without using a tool such as this
Pros: The fact that I can email candidates directly on their personal emails, the email sequencing capabilities, the ATS integration, the granular analytics, the email templates (+ plug and play variables -- especially the {{reason}} variable), and the dashboard that I can use to monitor the product usage of my directs
Cons: I wish the success rate and accuracy of the email scraping capabilities were closer to 100%. Sometimes the plug-in can be a bit buggy and unusuableSometimes candidate first and last names don;'t auto-populateI wish there was a clearer distinction (or I better understood) why to use Gem projects vs. LinkedIn RecruiterGiven how expensive LinkedIn Recruiter is and how tight the economy is at the moment, I wish there were more features and/or product design choices that make Gem a tool that can offer significant value even when not paired with a LinkedIn Recruiter seat
Samuel V. · Recruitment Manager · Computer Software · January 10, 2023
it's a great product for recruitment duties, easy to learn and use.
Pros: The two features that I like the most about Gem is the automation of the email campaign that save a lot of time in terms of candidate contact and the reports I can download to track team performance. Is very easy to read, understand and really helpful for our recruitment duties.
Cons: There's no way to share a project with my external clients, as an agency is a big deal cause I have to add the candidates to other document/platform to share with external stakeholder.
