My main integrated development environment for professional work is IntelliJ IDEA. The software helps me work more efficiently through its various keyboard shortcuts and extensive built-in functionality. The software provides high-quality value because its features become essential after users learn them.
Pros: The smart code completion and refactoring tools are light years ahead of the competition. The system explains everything according to my project needs because it performs complete project understanding. The system includes both integrated debugger tools and Git handling capabilities which function at a high level of excellence.
Cons: The process demands significant resources with particular focus on consuming RAM. The system experiences performance issues during handling of extremely large microservices architectures. The initial indexing process needs time to complete during the first time application launch.

Pros: It has lots of features and plugins to code amazingly. Now, it also has AI features to code with just a prompt.
Cons: It requires a high-end device to use properly without any lag. However, it works well on my device somehow.

IntelliJ is my daily IDE, be it for professional or personal projects, and sometimes even for small things like reading a simple text file. All due to its complete ease of use and integrations.
Pros: It is a flexible IDE, I can write code for any language and IntelliJ IDEA is able to support it. It's plugin marketplace is huge, with plugins to connect to Docker images, AWS environment, database, and even several AI assistants that can help out with your code.
Cons: Being such a complete IDE, IntelliJ IDEA can sometimes be a burden on the machine's resources. Although nothing that a quick restart does not fix.

Good, comfortable and very understandable / /It has many, good and extensive help options and a variety of tools /I think that it is a heavy thing,
Pros: Good, comfortable and very understandable /Super easy /It has many, good and extensive help options and a variety of tools
Cons: I think that it is a heavy thing, and it is better for it to be light in movement and mobility without the need to have large computer capabilities, as most computers can deal with it without feeling any problem or heaviness.

I've been using IntelliJ IDEA mainly for Java development during my coursework and small projects. The biggest advantage is how smart the IDE is ,code completion, debugging tools, and refactoring features save a lot of time compared to basic editors. It also integrates really well with tools like Maven and Git, which makes project management easier.
Pros: Very smart code completion and suggestions Excellent debugging and refactoring tools Great integration with Maven, Gradle, and Git Clean and organized interface Lots of built-in development tools
Cons: Uses a lot of RAM and CPU sometimes Initial indexing can be slow Too many features can feel overwhelming for beginners

Very pleasant IDE, which I choose to use most days. Issues are very minor and documentation is readily available online.
Pros: Good integration with all types of programming languages. Plugins and customization is very much appreciated.
Cons: Some minor issues with SSH remote usage, connection issues can be frustrating. Licensing management system can still occasionally be confusing.

Transitioning into a professional company environment over the past few months, IntelliJ IDEA has been my primary and most reliable tool. It significantly boosted my productivity in writing clean Java code and managing complex backend architectures. The out-of-the-box features save me hours of configuration time every week.
Pros: The intelligent code completion and refactoring tools are lifesavers, especially when ensuring the code adheres to OOP and SOLID principles. The built-in integration for Spring Boot makes running, testing, and debugging REST APIs incredibly smooth. It also has seamless Docker integration, which streamlines my daily backend tasks and deployment preparations, the best plugin market and the compatibility with many services .
Cons: It is quite resource-heavy. Indexing large projects upon startup can take some time, and it consumes a significant amount of RAM so my device cry. You definitely need a machine with strong specifications (at least 16GB RAM) to run it smoothly alongside other tools without experiencing any lag, sometimes i should restart my device when i run many plugins to make it build the maven project smother

As a Computer Science student, IntelliJ IDEA is my go-to IDE. It significantly boosts my productivity. While it demands a lot of system resources, the sheer power and smart features it offers make it worth the trade-off
Pros: The code completion feature with AI is a real life-saver. Its powerful indexing and deep code analysis predict what I need to write and also , it catches potential errors even before compilation, which is especially helpful for my Java projects at university as a CS student . The debugger is also very good, its interface tools make it easy to track variables and analyze stack traces, helping a lot in more complex projects . I also appreciate the wide range of plug ins and integrated tools.
Cons: The IDE can be quite resource intensive, consuming a large amount of RAM. When multiple projects are open, or if you’re using a mid-range laptop, you may notice some lag or slower startup times. It also has a steep learning curve the abundance of features and shortcuts can feel overwhelming for beginners at first, but the effort to master them definitely pays off in the long run.

My overall experience with IntelliJ is wonderful. I've been using it for more than 9 years and have never changed it because it's by far the most robust and developer friendly IDE.
Pros: It's one of the most robust and powerful IDEs in the market. It has a huge number of advanced features, a marketplace with thousands of plugins, and convenient user interface. Overall, it offers a great developer experience.
Cons: Unfortunately, sometimes, it can be quite heavy and even if you have a powerful machine, you may notice some lagging. Especially, during the code indexing process.

My experience is much like others have said, JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA is the best IDE period. JetBrains knows their customer base and their suite of IDE's and developer tools proves this.
Pros: The versatility and speed are my favorite features of IDEA. Hands down one of the best, most feature rich IDE's I have ever had the pleasure of using. JetBrains really knows their customer and it shows.
Cons: There's no complaints other than I wish it were free, but if it were I doubt the product would be the same.

Great tool. Very developer friendly. Ease to use. More features to different languages. Interactive too.
Pros: Developer friendly because it provides all syntax and the autocomplete feature helps to do more work in less time.
Cons: Plugins can be added feasibily. More user friendly to use. Dark and light modes are super nice to haves.

Lack of control for a developer from my personal take, every script automated, the 'dev-support-team' finds a way to mitigate your ability to use it- Prefer a more ethical-value practise approach- Imagine life in corporate then you trip on a stone and die, was life worth it using this product for that many years at that rate? Just a personal consideration - don't take it personally or do-
Pros: step into step out: cmd+[ && cmd+] Great intro to programming until you hit a bottleneck then its also your day job life thereafter.
Cons: hand-chain-like approach to UI programming and integration - at least from my experience with it. Continuous hastle, not even client urgencies give me this much grief.

great experience to have multiple options of third party plugins...repository access, docker integration and writing tests
Cons: need better AI co pilot integration for code reviews, code suggestions. hoping to see in next versions for robust AI code generation

Overall, IntelliJ IDEA is a great tool. I use it mainly for Scala development but it handles C# code well also. The syntax highlighting is great! The integrated tools that I can open in various windows are very helpful. I also like the AI assistant that can help with code development and debugging.
Pros: I love all the plugins available to the IDE and how well they enhance the interface. IntelliJ IDEA also performs very well as I very rarely have any times where I need to wait long for it to keep up with code changes.
Cons: The only thing that really has bugged me with IntelliJ IDEA is how it does not seem to handle system shutdown well. Even with all files saved, I must close the application in order to shutdown or restart my computer.

It is okay, but I've ended up switching to other products for Java development, and don't particularly find myself missing it.
Pros: It has good performance and is a fairly powerful IDE. It also has an aesthetically pleasing interface and has good integration with other IDEs/tools.
Cons: It can be harder to learn than some competitors, and is hard to integrate with other similar IDEs, since similar ones typically cost extra.
Anonymous User · Teaching Assistant · Education Management · August 13, 2025
Alba S. · Front end · Program Development · August 11, 2025
My overall experience with Intellij IDEA has been really good. I have been a long time user of Intellij IDEA now and I can tell from my experience that it is a great application. The recent addition of incorporating AI copilot makes the app even better.
Pros: The easy to use interface and also the tour guide which helps to understand the working of the app. Other than that the ability to link Github and other code sharing platform makes it even better. The automatic spelling correction feature works great. The possible suggestions to resolve any error is also a great feature.
Cons: It does not provide the option to open the same project in two different windows which is a drawback for me.
Preeti S. · Software Engineer · Financial Services · June 24, 2025
Pros: Fast setup and good integration with GitLab pipelines. This IDE allows simple or complexity development
Cons: UI feels a bit outdated sometimes, overwhelming whit plugin and navigation could be smoother
Guntas G. · Software Developer · Program Development · May 12, 2025
This IDE is pretty amazing, especially for web development where you may have HTML and CSS and PHP or JSP etc in a single file, integrated web server that can leverage php and tomcat binaries is really slick
Pros: Multi language support within a single product, project, even a single file
Cons: Setting up and managing projects can be a real pain, not very intuitive. the AI assistant is nice when it works, but it often doesnt, and your code snippets/project files are aggressively truncated behind the scenes making the tool much less useful for anything other than very narrow prompts lacking context
Jeremy B. · Offensive Security Consultant · Computer & Network Security · May 8, 2025
Been tinkering with IntelliJ for yonks, it's a solid wizard spinning Java builds before coffee
Pros: IntelliJ autocompletes like a champ, refactors on click. Built‑in git, plugins by the bucket
Cons: But it guzzles RAM on beefy projects and that licence fee is nowhere near pocket‑money levels

Anonymous User · Developer · Internet · April 28, 2025
Pros: A very detailed interface with lots of built in functionalities.
Cons: It can be a little tough to set up for new users or students who are just starting to code.

I use this almost everyday, in general it is a very essential tool
Pros: Many useful features available for Java developers
Cons: It can be a bit bulky, and occasionally crashes, or misbehaves.

Pros: IntelliJ IDEA is the best development platform due to its integrated artificial intelligence, support for multiple languages and technologies, advanced refactoring tools, and its intuitive and customizable interface. It is a versatile tool that enhances productivity and code quality.
Cons: I have no negative comments to point out about this platform.

I use this with my students and for my own purposes when writing cross-platform applications. It's a great teaching tool.
Pros: Cross-platform. Written in Java for Java.
Cons: IntelliJ Idea can be a bit slow sometimes, but it's manageable.
