I have spent hours on chat and phone support, trying to come up with a solution to an outdated machine that does not connect/stay connected. It is embarrassing to have to punch customers' cc numbers in manually because you cannot obtain a functioning credit card machine. Yesterday I waited in the phone queue for over an hour, waiting for customer support. This is unique to Lightspeed, as I rarely waited longer than a few minutes for support when Shopkeep owned the software. I have already ordered hardware for a new POS system and will be discontinuing use of Shopkeep by Lightspeed, despite having almost a full year of prepaid service remaining. For me it is not worth the stress and frustration.

Pros: I signed on in 2014 when this software was still owned by Shopkeep. It did everything that we needed it to do and support was always available. Unfortunately that is no longer the case.
Cons: Shopkeep was purchased by Lightspeed. They want all customers to switch to their credit card processing, Lightspeed Payments, eliminating competition and taking control of pricing out of the customer's hands. As a customer who chose not to switch I am given one option of an outdated credit card machine that no longer works well with the retail app. In addition, I just received an email that the cost of the service will be increasing by $40/month, making it more expensive than most retail POS subscriptions.

Pros: What drew me to Lightspeed was that I was told by the sales representative that we did not have to use their credit card processing service and we could continue to process with our currents provider. Furthermore, that there are no contracts and can leave at any time.
Cons: Long wait time for customer support, and we were lied to by not being transparent about credit card fees for not processing with Lightspeed

Pros: App interface was nice, easy to use. Reporting was okay and easy to navigate. The whole backend was simple & easy.
Cons: Customer service was virtually non existent & felt like they were intentionally trying to lose me as a customer towards the end. Slow and outdated programming. Awful account managers. 0 communication.

November 2024 sent an email of 'needs' that are required to sign on. All of them were available. Now June 2025 and getting ready to go live (as our busy season started in April) and find out that one of my requirements cannot be done. One that is non-negotiable nor a work around available. Hundreds of hours wasted and no one will return my email with a request for refund....
Pros: Not able to use after paying for 9 months to get set up - nothing good to say. Lots of fake promises
Cons: Lied to from the start and now will not return my email with a request for refund after proof (emails saved) were sent.

No service, no support then extra charge without reason for no service just for penalty. Stay away from them
Pros: Market leader, works well when you don’t need support, customer service is almost inexistent. Used to be good
Cons: Absolutely unacceptable predator To overcharge outside of contract for unwanted un-needed services. Unlawful company, stay away

Pros: Nice for keeping track of stuff in the shop, and doesn’t take too long to figure out. I liked how fast you can ring things up when it's busy. Helps the day move along better.
Cons: A couple times it lagged when switching screens but nothing major. Still worked fine in the end, just made me wait a few extra seconds here and there.

Overall we have been very happy with Lightspeed Retail. I would recommend it to any bike shop that is looking for a POS.
Pros: Lightspeed is easy to learn and very capable for our bike shop business. It allows us to track inventory and is a good point of sale.
Cons: There are a couple things that need improvements. One area is that purchase orders need to show the SKU of the items.
Jed Y. · Owner · Retail · April 25, 2025
Lightspeed has help me with sales analysis better. It’s gives you a report graph to compair sales in whatever period or in categories.
Pros: I like the inventory tracking and categorising your products. It helps to give you a better view and analysis of your sales reports.
Cons: I didn’t like the download button only has 1 option. It’s good to add pdf option too.
Amile B. · Administrator · Hospitality · March 5, 2025
Pros: Easy to create promotions for certain products. Helpful that the platform can also be used for inventory management and restock levels can be set. Also good that it syncs with Shopify.
Cons: The reporting mobile app could be improved. The app sometimes glitches and is slow to update.
Naoki M. · Manager · Retail · January 3, 2025
Very poor customer service. Issues with inventory management. High turnover of account managers, no follow up from supervisors.
Pros: Canned reports were good, Intuitive for the most part.
Cons: Very lacking in customer service. Unwillingness to meet specific requirements, dismissive.
Guy B. · Owner · Retail · December 23, 2024
Horrible interactions when you're lucky enough to get a human involved - which is typically only on the sales side of the business. 3 months to get a response from the tech side (I wish I was exaggerating).
Pros: Fairly functional, but they'll make changes with no regard to how it affects your operation, putting your register & receiving department in turmoil at the worst times.
Cons: Extortion! A sudden "policy change" and now we're getting a additional $400 per month charge on top of our subscription fee until we switch to their merchant card service. `Wonder why it's so hard to leave a review for Lightspeed? I had an issue with the POS service - it took 3 months just to get a response! Use ANY other POS service!

Pros: Light speed offers some of the best Retail software on the market.
Cons: I wish we had chosen this software earlier and not wasted money trying out others.
Chandler N. · Sales · Retail · December 15, 2024
It is useful for setting up an ecommerce store with a POS system.
Pros: The main reason I signed up for Lightspeed Retail was so that I could keep my e-commerce website's stock properly synced up with my in-store retail stock.
Cons: Overall, it's a large service and there are a lot of configurations to be set up. I also had to get a separate plugin (from a 3rd-party) in order to fully get my POS and website to sync.
Carleton T. · Admin · Retail · December 7, 2024
In general, it's easy for employees to figure out and use. Initial onboarding wasn't difficult, and we were up and running within a day.
Pros: It's simple to set up. With the credit payment system integrated, it avoids dealing with a third party system.
Cons: The down time when their service fails on their end. We've had transactions completely disappear after the customer already left, thus losing not an insignificant amount of money.
Kristen G. · Owner · Retail · November 30, 2024
Super simple and easy for my consumers transactions.
Pros: the amazing POS and Inventory management offered from Lightspeed.
Cons: That we didnt start using Lightspeed earlier.
Cody E. · Store Manager · Retail · November 24, 2024
Pros: User-friendly and makes it easy to manage inventory, process sales, and check stock quickly. Helps speed up transactions and reduce errors. The system’s ability to handle multiple payment methods is also a big plus.
Cons: The system can sometimes be slow, especially during busy times, which can frustrate customers. There’s also a bit of a learning curve when it comes to using some of the more advanced features.

Overall I have spend way more time on the help desk waiting the 24-48 hours for technical support and I have had to invest more money and time into additional products I didnt expect. Overall the experience has been a mixed bag, but the latest integrations issues has left a really bad taste in my mouth.
Pros: The fact it could do the basics well. i.e. take payment of an order.
Cons: The integration issues, added costs of including so many additional applications and the delayed payment over the weekend, where lightspeed invoices did not match bank account inputs due to when the eftpos fee is attributed. This adds a lot of manual effort when reconciling.
Jeff W. · CEO · Hospitality · August 15, 2024
I use Lightspeed every day in the shop I run. It has a great back office feature and connects to the POS system very well. I like how all your reports are in one place and you can easily find the information you need by filtering the reports. Inventory is very easy with Lightspeed.
Pros: I like how easy it is to pull data on Lightspeed Back office and how easy it is to have it communicate to your POS device.
Cons: Connection to the card reader goes in and out frequently and it Lightspeed only works with certain processing companies.

WORST EVER
Pros: NOTHING
Cons: THEY SELL YOU THE WRONG PLAN AND THEN WHEN YOU FIND OUT THERE IS ANOTHER SERIES THAT WAS THE PLAN YOU WANTED THEY THEN TELL YOU TO PAY ALL THESE EXTRA ADD ONS WHICH IS MORE EXPENSIVE AND WILL NOT EVEN ALLOW YOU TO CHANGE TO THE RIGHT SERIES. THEY ARE LYING THEIFS AND USELESS. HIS IS IN SOUTH AFRICA. SO I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FOR ANY SOUTH AFRICANS
Michael M. · OWNER · Tobacco · August 2, 2024
customer service not good, very hard to get a hold of them
Pros: like the ability to add and change products easily,
Cons: Very hard to set up events in the system
Lorrie M. · Owner · Hospitality · July 8, 2024
The cost is a bit high in comparison to other retail POS systems. I may have considered an alternate provider based on the cost alone, but we wanted to get our store opened right away, and Lightspeed came very highly rated. Over and above customer service is so very important, and this alone keeps us on-line. I would recommend Lightspeed to any new user considering them.
Pros: I enjoy using Lightspeed. The features are easy to navigate, learn and train. There is a newsletter that alerts us to new features and interests. We were offered a significant start up discount for the first year, and the terminal was free. Once we set up the system, it has been clear sailing. Any time we have had a question, on-line customer service has been wonderful! We have never not had an issue unresolved. Lightspeed offers capital advances after a certain period of time, based on sales. This could be useful to help with additional expenses as they come along.
Cons: I do not love the monthly fees now that our yearly discounted rate has come to an end. That is really the only thing I dislike about the entire system. I do wish that Lightspeed would partner up with Faire, the wholesale platform we often use, to integrate the inventory and invoicing.
Kyla T. · Owner · Retail · June 25, 2024
We loved Lightspeed and advocated for them in the beginning. The disappointment in their customer service and the system breakages and downtime was devastating to our business. The customer service we received when their system was crashing was the worst customers service I have experienced in any industry. They denied system crashes or feature breakages, for days before acknowledging them. We tolerated alot from them because they used to be so good! But, it started to cost us a lot of lost sales, and when they couldn't process credit cards for days, that was the end...
Pros: Good foundation. Simple to use POS with valuable connected integrations.
Cons: Customer service used to be outstanding. In a few short years, it provided some of the worst customers service I have experience in any industry. I can confidently saw even our basic employees/user understood the system better than ANY of the customer service reps from Lightspeed.
Sean J. · CEO · Retail · May 16, 2024
Very poor and now we are faced with a difficult situation to migrate away from them before the cost rack up. I have since discovered this is simply a hostile tactic to upsell their payment services.
Pros: Appears simple and easy to use, simple to set up and cost effective.
Cons: Be very wary. Lightspeed will take you on to use their epos system but once you have settled in, they will penalise if you do not use their payment services in conjunction. The monthly penalty for not using their payment gateway is huge. Support is limited to non existent and the account manager's primary objective to sell you their services, and if this is not accepted, they will pressurise you to take the services regardless by way of charging you £335 per month as penalty. I would highly recommend you look into other Epos providers before committing to Lightspeed. As you will then be faced with the pressure of moving away from them quickly. Note they only give you 18 days to pay for the penalty invoices before suspending service.
Sam A. · Owner · Retail · May 10, 2024
Lied to so I would purchase $500 in hardware. Then was ghosted when I cancelled and wanted to return hardware. Spent two months trying to make it functional. Finally gave up. Cancelled subscription and then could not get a call back for hardware return. Was told a lot of inaccurate information at sales, just to be told at implementation it would not do those things that were promised.
Pros: Nothing. Wasted my time and energy with false promises of functionality. Total fail. Terrible experience
Cons: Questions I asked at demo: Does it include integrations with Woo and Amazon? Told it did. It does not! Demands additional software to integrate with Woo, Amazon, and Shipstation. Where is support? Told North America. It is not. 4-6 days to get email response. Phone support has no answers, creates email chain.
