NextGen Office is a cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) and practice management software tailored for small healthcare practices. It integrates intuitive EHR workflows, a practice management system, revenue cycle management, and a patient portal to enhance operations and patient care. The EHR module offers specialty-specific content and workflows, reducing documentation time. The practice management system streamlines scheduling, billing, and reporting, allowing providers to focus on quality care. Its cloud-based design removes the need for on-site IT, enabling secure access from any device. The patient portal facilitates appointment scheduling, prescription refills, and payments. Ambient Assist, an AI tool, generates SOAP notes from conversations, saving providers time. NextGen Office's comprehensive features make it an ideal solution for practices aiming to improve workflows and patient care.

Pros: Nextgen works well in having all of the features you need in an EHR/EMR system. It is nice to be able to easily see the note when sending a claim.
Cons: Next gen makes posting payments really challenging. They do not do well with takebacks at all. If it is a $0.00 payment you can't use the autopost feature.

My experience with NextGen Office has been positive. It simplifies document management, collaboration, and workflow, and the cloud-based access adds great flexibility. While a few features could be faster and integrations smoother, it’s a reliable and efficient tool that boosts productivity.
Pros: NextGen Office is intuitive and efficient, making document management, collaboration, and workflow seamless. The cloud access is very convenient.
Cons: Sometimes the interface can feel a bit cluttered, and certain features take time to load. Integration with some third-party apps could be smoother.

I had an overall good experience with NextGen. Prompt replies and often most inquiries were promptly addressed
Pros: "NextGen was one of the top of the line EHR when it came to converting from paper charts to EMR in our practice back in 2015." "NGO has been solid and but it needs updates to keep current with other EMRs/PMs in the industry. " "Powerful for healthcare practices; once set up, it streamlines patient care and office management effectively."
Cons: "We often find faxes delayed, but NGO support fails to provide any meaningful update during the questionable period. " "Ineffective texting and emailing utilization without the required patient portal. " "It took an incredibly long time to document on a new patient on their first visit."

Horrible experience. I would never use their software again. It has expensive, outdated, not user friendly. I paid a fee to get out of the contract early, and received very tense unprofessional conversations with the staff.
Pros: The software was highly customizable to fit with my practice. We had a responsive customer service experience.
Cons: The value for money was poor. It was much more expensive than we were originally lead to believe. The software had a horrible easy to use. When I logged on before the official training I could not figure out how to write a sample SOAP note. Other software I have used with intuitive, but not this one. The medical practice management was awful. It took an incredibly long time to document on a new patient on their first visit.

My overall experience it was great when it came to a corporation status, meaning larger practices combine.
Pros: NextGen was one of the top of the line EHR when it came to converting from paper charts to EMR in our practice back in 2015.
Cons: One of the least thing that I did not like was that it sometime duplicated the data and it was hard to merge patients.

I had an overall good experience with NextGen. Prompt replies and often most inquiries were promptly addressed
Pros: In the beginning, the service was super. My inquiries were being addressed quickly and people seem eager to help
Cons: Often times, my inquiries were not properly addressed. There were times when I had to reach out multiple times
David M. · Owner · Health, Wellness and Fitness · December 25, 2025
Overall we have had a positive experience. We would appreciate more communication from customer support once a problem is resolved.
Pros: We have appreciated the ease with which the system can be navigated on both the practice management and EHR sides of the software. Messages and tasks are easy to use.
Cons: I do not like that only one user can be in the soap note at one time. It makes it difficult for the staff and the doctor to enter what they need to in a timely fashion.
Tracy R. · Office Manager · Hospital & Health Care · September 18, 2025
Overall experience has been good. We are much happier now that [sensitive content hidden] has taken over the account. She is great and on top of everything.
Pros: My account representatives have been great! [sensitive content hidden] checks in regularly and makes sure things are going smoothly.
Cons: The system glitches. They seem to happen one after the other when they do happen. Sometimes reports won't load, the system says it made an appointment, etc.

I'm still relatively new to the Admin side of NGO, but as a clinical and clerical staff member, it's good.
Pros: I like the user experience, the customer support, and our account rep's knowledge and helpfulness. She is truly what makes this product worth our time.
Cons: The cost of the product(s) feels excessive. The Patient Portal is terribly unfriendly to the patients and staff alike. Needs serious improvement.

We've been with NextGen Office for 7 years, during that time the product has greatly evolved into an extremely reliable, easy to use software tool that meets everyone's needs. The company and the program continue to evolve to meet the ever demanding governmental requirements giving us peace of mind.
Pros: NextGen Office EHR/PM is an all in one EHR,PM, clearinghouse, portal, telemed solution that can be used on any device, anywhere. The program is easy to use, intuitive and very fast to document a patient encounter. Their new Ambient Assist AI scribe makes documentation a no brainer. You can put the computer down, turn on the microphone, and focus 100% on the patient. Ambient Assist will create the structured note for you. Their customer support and ongoing commitment to training is excellent.
Cons: NextGen Office has built in patient appointment reminders via text and email, but if you want more robust patient messaging you need to use a 3rd party app. That app works well, but it would be nice to have that as a native app.

1)I am happy with the EDI department with a timely resolution 2) I am happy with my account manager
Pros: account rep's always try to help with problems that occur in a timely matter. Account manager always keeps me advise
Cons: 1)billing department 2) oversees calls 3) this is annoying I have to come up with 100 characters to answer these questions

NGO has been solid and but it needs updates to keep current with other EMRs/PMs in the industry. It checks the boxes for most of our needs, but there are required workarounds for those that are not ideal workflows. Like all, there are some exceptional people in each department that make it worth it.
Pros: NGO's usability and enterprise-level management of multiple practices for our billing company has allowed us to streamline protocols, improve quality, and manage practices and their operations effectively. NGO reporting is great if you like and familiar with Excel. Our team loves it, but it can be a deterrent for some. PM-wise, the platform is simple to use. Our registration and front office teams always find learning the workflows for registering a patient, scheduling, changing the schedule, checking in patients, collecting copayments, etc. pretty simple. EHR-wise is great. It works well for those who have invested time in developing custom forms, blueprints, care plans, etc. If you don't, you will truly struggle with not just this platform but any.
Cons: $91

Long ago good product but now poor. Right now, I have waited over 24 hours and 5 phone calls just to have a password reset.
Pros: I have had NextGen, formerly HealthFusion, for almost 13 years. The platform is easy to use and the product used to be good.
Cons: Zero customer service. Over the last few years, the customer service is non existent, as the price continues to soar. Everything from enrollments with the clearinghouse to deciphering claim denials is self service. Expect to have to spend way more time creating cases, waiting several days for someone to respond, and frustration on things that should be easy. Also, lots of confusion about who to contact with the clearinghouse Waystar exists....both sides will pass the buck. Also, their MIPS/MACRA measuring factors are limited...so good luck!

Very good so far. We love the platform, it has been very useful. We like how it is customizable for our small practice.
Pros: The onboarding process was seamless. It is very robust. As we expand our clinical services, this is very helpful in terms of being customizable.
Cons: Training with live person is limited, they only have a certain amount of time allotted and you have to pay for extra one-on-one training.
Jazel B. · Pharmacist · Health, Wellness and Fitness · July 14, 2025
Pros: Its easier to send in medications- but oh wait, it doesn't preload the quantity. Our last program populated the bottle size ( I work in ophthalmology). I cant say anything positive about this program.
Cons: Everything. Who ever designs these programs need to ask actual clinic staff/doctors/techs their opinion. We had compulink previously and we thought that was bad. We're all wishing for that program back. Nothing is user friendly. If your thinking of switching your office to this software- DONT!!!
Kari D. · User · Medical Practice · July 1, 2025
Would not recommend. There is no in person classes to help with start up. Most of our issues were left without a resolution.
Pros: We chose NextGen Office because we are a small clinic and the price was in our budget. I can honestly say you get what you pay for. Go for the best option not the cheapest.
Cons: Customer service is horrible. Nobody is able to answer questions and when I call the support line it has so much static that I can't understand them. I was never able to get to someone for assistance.
Carol S. · nurse practitioner · Health, Wellness and Fitness · June 27, 2025
It is slow, inconvenient and your staff will not like it. The quality of your notes will likely decrease. Using this may adversely affect employee morale. The only reason for this program to exist is affordability.
Pros: The mobile app is at least not substandard. It will allow you to use speech recognition easily, but you may not like working on an iPhone or iPad.
Cons: The desktop is unbelievably slow and offers no advantage over any of its competitors.
Nicholas M. · Physician · Medical Practice · May 13, 2025
Generally, I would highly recommend picking something different. There are much better systems out there for much cheaper cost.
Pros: The actual patient encounter portion was fairly user-friendly. It was still extremely heavy, but they allowed you to have templates which helped somewhat.
Cons: The billing side was absolutely horrendous. The program likely cost our company thousands of dollars plus it was quite expensive to have just two providers. The customer service was extremely difficult to work with. You would ask a question and wait for a cuff circular non-answer response for weeks. We finally got to enough complaints that we got to speak to a manager and basically they said too bad so sad about all of our concerns. We left them the second our contract was up.
Beth B. · Owner operator · Hospital & Health Care · May 12, 2025
Nextgen was a slow system it seemed old and it needed to be revamped. It almost seemed like it didn't have enough giggle or megabytes for the amount of medical records I tried to process on a daily basis.
Pros: Filing features were very simple and it had a lot of features that help with separating documents while they were already scanned into the system.
Cons: Processing time was very slow, it freezes a lot and made it longer to do almost anything
Shacria D. · Medical records clerk · Medical Practice · May 10, 2025
Poor customer service. Poor onboarding. Self service.
Pros: Prescribing. Was smooth in the beginning.
Cons: Terrible support. Poor onboarding. Rep couldn’t answer most of my questions. A month later when I had more questions the rep said we had used up all of our hours. No app to use on the go. Now the rep has been unavailable for a month as we try to shut it down.
Constanze R. · Owner · Health, Wellness and Fitness · March 5, 2025
Used for several yrs and ultimately changed to MMA for EMR. Still use Nextgen for PM.
Pros: Clinical and practice management EMR together and seamless integration.
Cons: Poor fit for dermatology. Not streamlined and efficient. Many clicks and scrolls to get through it.
Michael B. · dermtologist · Hospital & Health Care · March 3, 2025
Very Poor. They provide you with all the features with extremely limited training. Then when you ask for more training, they charge you by the hour o top of the expensive monthly payment !! It toome 2 months to contact someone just to update my credit card. Sure enough, starting Feb 2025 , they will start charing surcharge on the credit card payment as well .
Pros: Extensive Features. However it's like someone throwing you in an airplane cockpit and having you figure out how to fly the plane on your own. What good is that ?>
Cons: Very High Price + Extremely Poor Customer Service
Sameer O. · Physician and Owner · Medical Practice · February 21, 2025
Overall it's a great software, when I don't understand something I can always contact their desk support team.
Pros: Allows for employee tracking, care management, and has managed cloud hosting which is incredible for the price.
Cons: The reporting and analytics were not calculated accurately.
Sunaina B. · Director of Operations · Hospital & Health Care · February 21, 2025
The experience has been very good. The customer service is very helpful and the ease of setting up the system was easy
Pros: Nextgen is very user friendly. The flow between patient charts and medications are easy.
Cons: There are not very many specialty areas in the system.
Angela B. · Manager · Health, Wellness and Fitness · February 3, 2025
Pros: Easy to use and very useful app. Innovative
Cons: I don't have negative experiences about this app
