NextGen Enterprise EHR offers practice configurable clinical content, intuitive workflows, and an integrated patient experience platform that incorporates telehealth. With NextGen Mobile, providers’ smartphones become an extension of the EHR, which saves valuable time. NextGen has its own fully integrated solutions that provide dictation, speech-to-text, direct to desktop and Ambient Listening AI technology. NextGen Mobile Pro provides these capabilities to its clients, replacing their need for additional integrated solutions. Managed cloud hosting keeps practices secure and makes upgrades easy, though on-premise options are also available.

Medium to large medical practices. Organizations needing deep customization. Teams with IT support or willingness to train makes it very helpful.
Pros: Highly customizable. Great for practices that want control and flexibility. Clinics can tailor templates, workflows, and reports to fit their exact needs.
Cons: New users often feel overwhelmed at first. Not beginner-friendly. Takes time to train staff and fully understand workflows.

Nextgen is a software that has what they think are a lot of bells and whistles and it is so challenging to use.
Pros: I like how they have the medical note for the claim linked in the claim. That makes it really easy to see that specific note. The section to leave notes for a specific claim works fine.
Cons: I really dislike the reporting features. Reports are so slow to load and so limited. Posting takebacks is really challenging and the balance is left in the wrong insurance responsibility. I dislike the process of sending and reviewing claims. It is really tedious.

My overall experience with NextGen was an amazing one. I could not imagine using anything else on a day to day basis at work.
Pros: What I like most about the NextGen Enterprise is it made my day to day task easier to accomplish and well organized.
Cons: The thing I liked the least about NextGen is it was slightly glitchy from time to time, but definitely nothing major.

Excellent experience even when challenges occurred our representative was very professional and answered all out questions. Minimal interruption in service delivery.
Pros: Easy to use and great customer support which was vital in our line of work. We used the Nex gen cards for out patient support programs and we rarely had any issues with it.
Cons: Customer support was quick and we had a dedicated person to respond to our inquiry since I worked for a large organization this was vital.

Overall, it’s a solid and reliable system. While it has some usability issues, its flexibility and integration capabilities make it a valuable tool for our practice.
Pros: NextGen Enterprise is highly customizable, allowing us to tailor templates and workflows to fit our needs. It integrates well with other platforms and offers strong reporting and patient engagement tools.
Cons: The UI can feel outdated at times, especially for new users. Some workflows require multiple clicks or steps that could be streamlined.

great program to work with if you are looking for ease and convenience. Maked patient charting and documenting a breeze.
Pros: I love the ease and convenience that the system offers. Customer support is amazing as well. This system makes the process of pt charting so much easier and quicker.
Cons: the system does freeze a little every now and then but even with that small flaw the program is still definitely worth it.

Quickly taken care of and outstanding service. Thank you for the help
Pros: “Five stars for their professionalism and passion! Would definitely recommend ”
Cons: Nothing bad to say about this business their professionalism was top notch
Alec P. · Production utility · Broadcast Media · April 24, 2025
Pros: The workflows are good and ever improving. Reporting, interfaces and interoperability are strong.
Cons: There are not very many specialty areas in the system.
Miranda N. · Medical Assitant · Hospital & Health Care · February 12, 2025
Overall it's been a much better experience thanks to [sensitive content hidden], and our dedicated TAM [sensitive content hidden].
Pros: Having [sensitive content hidden] as our Enterprise Account Manager.
Cons: The RCM services from 2017 to 2023. We also struggled with NG IT regarding our interface connections in 2022-2023.

Have had NextGen PM since 1998 and EMR since 2006. Have seen lots of changes but product has significant legacy architecture and programming. That being said, we have grown significantly as an organization with it as our core system.
Pros: Breadth of the solution. Stability. Mobile platform.
Cons: Patient portal is primitive and not well integrated. Needs to add more and better analytics. Needs to incorporate/embed more advanced features, e.g., AI, ML, NLP Needs to update architecture to web-centric and utilize market-leading cloud technologies Support needs to be improved.
Vince V. · Chief Information Officer · Medical Practice · December 20, 2024
It's been great working with [sensitive content hidden] and the NextGen Team.
Pros: Our Account Manager, [sensitive content hidden] and her willingness to assist and escalate urgent issues.
Cons: Known Issues & support not restarting services. Connectivity dropping sporadically

We have had an interesting and bumpy relationship with NextGen over the years, but we have heavily leveraged our organization's IT infrastructure around NextGen at the core. Despite any warts, the product is functional and has met our needs for over twenty years.
Pros: The best part of NextGen is the ability to customize the templates and documents. With some knowledge of SQL and Crystal Reports, we can get meaningful and actionable reports.
Cons: The recent acquisition by Thoma Bravo led to the culling of many experienced support technicians and has slowed the progress of assimilating NextGen's previous acquisitions, like Medfusion's Patient Portal. Their support seems to have been mostly outsourced to inexperienced technicians in India.
Todd Z. · IT Manager · Health, Wellness and Fitness · December 19, 2024
I have been using NextGen since 2017 and overall will say it has been a positive experience. They do try to listen to their clients and provide them updates to meet the everchanging landscape of healthcare.
Pros: The configurability of the software, but how useful it already is out of the box.
Cons: To set up some parts of the system, you have to go to several different screens to do different steps to set up 1 item.
Tracie Z. · Director of Health Informatics and Information Management · Medical Practice · December 18, 2024
Pros: I like the customizability of the templates
Cons: The amount of issues that come up on a daily basis is annoying. Also, the quality of support has not always been up to our expectations especially since the majority of the support staff was let go for some reason. We get frustrated frequently when we open a support ticket explaining in detail what steps we have tried and the only resolution we receive is a basic user guide that does not solve the problem whatsoever since we already knew how to do the steps in the guide.

I have using this product for quite some time, I have become quite good at navigating and making it work,
Pros: the patient history which shows all encounters including telephone note, pta's, visits
Cons: the fact that the areas to chart in pop up, which means you can't navigate behind them, so for instance look at an old note, labs, correspondence while charting on a patient. I'll be honest having used EPIC at a side gig I Have been working, I didn't realize how much more clicking there was in nextgen.

I cannot wait to get out of our Nextgen contract and move to a company that does not feel like a sinking ship. Nextgen hasn't been modernized in what feels like ages, and the "new" version 6.2021 is very buggy. The new patient portal is also a buggy mess that we cannot get to work any time there is an update.
Pros: I like that we are very intertwined with Nextgen and I already have a very serious knowledge base.
Cons: The quality of support services has been on a down trend for years now. Reps are constantly changing, institutional knowledge has almost totally disappeared due to outsourcing. My team has experienced an ever-increasing number of tickets go completely unanswered, then when tracked down they are just listed as known issues and forgotten about.
Bryan D. · IT Director · Hospital & Health Care · August 19, 2024
Overall my experience has been good. It was quick to learn and implement
Pros: Its an easy to use and intuitive tool. The support and training was excellent.
Cons: The configuratation takes a bit of time.
Rupa S. · Quality Engineer · Medical Devices · August 16, 2024
Over all Nextgen Enterprise is a solid choice for a big practice. They scope of tools and options make them a prefect out of the box choice to drive your A/R well under the 18 days. We have been under the 14 days after a year on the product.
Pros: Staying on top of regulations and requirements. They seem to be trying to innovate and improve the product each year. They are on top of the MIPS requirements with workflows that help achieve those goals.
Cons: If you are hosted by NextGen there are some issues with lag as we are a small client and we are on a leveraged server with other clients. Q&A is lacking on the product as they rush to push out features to fast breaking features at least once or twice a year.
Tony W. · Network Administrator · Medical Practice · August 13, 2024
Our account manager is really responsive to us. If we have issues, he is always on top of getting us help.
Pros: I like the way the system is set up. It is easy to navigate.
Cons: Too many ways to the same thing, that if a provider picks the wrong way to do it, then it might not get captured right for reporting.
Carrie C. · HIM Supervisor · Health, Wellness and Fitness · August 13, 2024
It was a great program to work with and easy to learn.
Pros: I loved the design and look of NextGen. Its simple to use and everything makes sense.
Cons: Having to call IT outside of office for help.
Cooper D. · Office manager · Hospital & Health Care · August 13, 2024
Nextgen is a very god system that offers the flexibility to do self-developments of their KBM Templates, it allows the client to do APIs to meet the client needs when connecting to 3rd party vendors.
Pros: Template Editor offers the ability to self develop templates to meet the client needs.
Cons: Ability to adapt to the client needs. All has to be self-customized by the client.
Yurisleydi G. · Product Manager · Hospital & Health Care · August 13, 2024
good overall. I like the EMR and it has served us well.
Pros: It is fairly streamlined. I like the Intake, SOAP, Finalize, Checkout workflow.
Cons: In general performance and still quite a few bugs in the system that take forever to be addressed
Mack G. · PA · Medical Practice · August 13, 2024
Overall, my experience with Nextgen is great! Tech support is outstanding, the application is easy to use.
Pros: Nextgen is easy to use. The EHR is customizable for your specialty. The success community that Nextgen offers is wonderful! Nextgen listens to their clients.
Cons: Portal needs some improvement for patient experience.
Allison C. · Manager · Medical Practice · April 5, 2024
Overall, I'm not impressed with NextGen. We are constantly dealing with "known issues" that are not resolved. We have issues with the portal experience and often hear about them too late. It's honestly embarrassing to have to constantly tell patients we are having issues with the portal.
Pros: I like that we are able to customize it to our specific needs.
Cons: The patient portal experience needs work. We also have some doctors who struggle to chart in a timely manner with NextGen.
Josiah B. · Admin Staff Supervisor · Hospital & Health Care · April 2, 2024
i came from a platform that was visually much better and it was much easier to run reports and get what i needed. It took me 6 months to teach myself to get what i need from reports. I feel there are too many clicks and steps to get to one thing. Payments applied should be easy to access for patients calling in. I feel its difficult to self diagnose any issues because of all the steps and multiple places you have things to resolve one item.
Pros: I like many features but i feel they are made much more complicated than necessary with too many clicks. I like the reporting but feel its " almost " there. The dashboard for financial analytics is great but i would like to be able to get charges and payments in detail on PM side to reconcile against dashboard easily. I think it has great qualities that just need some tweaking to be really fantastic. less clicks, to get the job done, not having to do the same thing in several places to make one thing happen would be great. It is a good platform but i would no classify as great yet...
Cons: all the clicks and multiple steps to get to one thing. Visually its outdated. incorporating AI would be great. easier ways to show where payments are applied for quick view for calls.
