Pros: What I liked most about ICANotes is the simplicity in treatment planning and the value for the monthly cost. Seamless appointment scheduling and patient outcome reports.
Cons: What I liked least was that I could not customize prefilled notes based on only my line of business.
Latasha B. · Clinical Director · Mental Health Care · January 26, 2026
Overall, I like using ICANotes. My notes look proessional and as mentioned my job is easier as a result.
Pros: ICANotes makes my job easier. I can complete assessments, progress and SOAP notes with ease and much quicker than manual notes and assessments.
Cons: I haven't used customer service in a long time but responses in the past could have been more timely.

Pros: It’s easy to use and it covers all we need to have in our notes. Mental health status is complete and at the same time not complicated.
Cons: I would like to have access to demographics when I do the appointments. To find phone numbers I have to move to from the calendar. The price is high compared to other platforms. Cannot access telehealth using patients phone number.

Overall, I am enjoying my experience with ICANotes. The EHR assists with streamlining appointment scheduling and documentation.
Pros: I like the ease of useability. ICANotes allows me the comfort of staying current on documentation. The
Cons: I have not identified anything that I like least about ICANotes. So far, there is nothing that I dislike about the EHR platform.

Not good. Ever since the “upgrade “ to Plus, the prescription service is a headache , such that on several occasions, the patients medications have not been listed because they have been automatically “discontinued “ leading to , at least on two occasions, medication errors. On one occasion, I was told to call the prescription service myself. Further, Inovalon support is there, but sometimes I just get lip service.
Pros: Access to customer service is very good and when navigating ICANOtes + , very helpful. They spent a good amount of time and followed up on things.
Cons: It’s incredibly costly and the prescription service is not well integrated . The portal service was cumbersome. The calendar service has “accept “ and “decline” almost touching each other so a patient accidentally pushed decline. He showed me.

Great. It took a while to learn but am doing so daily. The trainings are important for our growth. I love the fact that if you cannot be in the training in person, you can watch it later. I love the consistency in reaching out to providers
Pros: Conciseness so you can make your choice and modify when needed. It is refreshing to know that there are things that can be used to make the work easier and that you can move faster especially when you have a lot to do.
Cons: Nothing. It is ok. I would have hoped that other buttons could be more added to make it easier to punch things in especially when have to use the word or phrases more often.

For the most part, I have had EXCELLENT experiences with ICANotes. I have loved all the people that I have worked with.
Pros: I love the accessibility to all our client information. Like when I am doing the billing, I can access the chart of a particular client if they do not validate and I need to change information on the chart (i.e. demographics or insurance information)
Cons: I don't have any issues with ICANotes at this time. I am considering adding more features to our profile
TONYIA H. · ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT · Mental Health Care · June 21, 2025
overall is a great experience. Is user friendly, modern, up to date and progressive and comprehensive.
Pros: I like the ease of accessibility. The ability to tailor the EMR to meet the demands of your practice and clientele. The dedicated support and the feasibility of integrating information to the patient record and chart.
Cons: when the EMR is down and notification of this event can be timelier and wait time for enquiries can be cumbersome.
Jeanette M. · Nurse Practitioner · Mental Health Care · June 20, 2025
I am very happy with ICA notes as far as easy navigation and pretty fast at achieving my tasks. Again the only delay is when in account waiting for records to load before proceeding to update.
Pros: I find ICA notes user friendly and adaptable to all all aspects of my job function in the Behavioral health Realm. I have worked on other EHR systems and this is by far the best system.
Cons: When records are loading in an account, and I am unable to proceed until the records are completed. This causes a delay with updating accounts.
Linda C. · Administration · Mental Health Care · June 19, 2025
It is has been a great experience and it has enhanced my clinical team documentation. In addition, entering documentation in this system is less time consuming.
Pros: It is user friendly and colleagues seem to be able to navigate the system with ease and confidence. New employees are not intimidated by the system.
Cons: I wish our company could utilize more features. I am awaiting the PRO version of ICANotes. I love all the trainings offered to better utilize ICANotes.
Carressa C. · Director of Outpatient Business Unit · Hospital & Health Care · June 19, 2025
I was able to review material as many times as I wanted and when I wanted. The applications were good.
Pros: The ability to sign-up for tutorials and have access to video recorded learning material was very helpful.
Cons: I'm a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist' and most of the contents are geared to clinicians. It could be more user friendly for non- clinical personal.
Michael M. · Certified Peer Recovery Specialist · Human Resources · June 19, 2025
I am overall satisfied with the way my notes look at the end of my sessions, clear and professional.
Pros: The drop down options , the amount of assessments and the structure of how they assist in note writing. Most importantly the assistance if you need help
Cons: At times it freezes, but not many times and when it has frozen I have received assistance from their support
Agnes J. · LMHC · Mental Health Care · June 19, 2025
Pros: Efficiency ! Excellent! This is a great site for mental health care professionals. It is always efficient and running well. No bugs
Cons: I love Icanotes. I don't have any issues to report or do I have any problems. I would definitely recommend to other people.
Dr L W. · Doctor · Mental Health Care · June 18, 2025
Great. Icannotes is a vital part of my business team. This program is comprehensive and still growing to make it easier to serve our patients
Pros: It is comprehensive and customers service it amazing. My team loves using icanotes. The custom buttons and expandable ability is terrific for customizing
Cons: Portal in old system is not as user friendly as I would like. Some of my patients have a hard time with the portal. There is an upgrade and looking forward to moving to the easier interface

I can't wait until everything is up to par with Icanotes Plus so I can use this again! We miss using Icanotes and can't wait to join back!
Pros: Icanotes Classic was very simple to use, great workflow. The teams are excellent if you have troubles and superior customer service!
Cons: Icanotes Classic's overall speed was the only reason we had to leave and we absolutely hated to do this, but time is money and a solo practice cannot afford to lose time
Vicki L. · Office Manager · Mental Health Care · June 18, 2025
I would recommend this EMR, it's thorough and is user friendly. I use several others on various platforms that I am on and I do like Icanotes the best. For my self pay patients, I use it for charting.
Pros: Icanotes makes charting easy and complete. It covers all aspects of charting on the psychiatric client.
Cons: Sometimes it is difficult to get tech support but once you do they are most helpful. It may take a day or two to get an answer. The ascribing was a challenge for me, however, once I used it consistently, I have no problems.
sarah c. · PMHNP · Mental Health Care · June 17, 2025
I have enjoyed Icanotes' services and I am very pleased with the updates made over the past 7 years.
Pros: Customer support is user-friendly for documents (scan documents into the client's chart), and you can add phrases and copy and paste them into Icanotes when using AI notes.
Cons: Pricing for part-time providers is costly compared to other MH ehrs. Icanotes not able to interface with AI.
TAMARA N. · PMHNP-BC · Mental Health Care · June 17, 2025
Overall, I think that ICanotes is a great EMR compared to the other EMR I've used in the field of addictions.
Pros: What I like the most is how thorough it is in covering areas needed in working with the SUD applications.
Cons: What I like the least is having to go back in the "problems" section and having to re-select a problem to be able to go into the goals and interventions.
Jean-Claude T. · Senior Addictions Counselor · Mental Health Care · June 16, 2025
ICANotes makes it easy to find clients and enter their note and demographics. I find spell check is helpful.
Pros: ICANotes is easy to navigate. I can make tabs for frequently used phrases. It is easy to find clients to reread past sessions.
Cons: ICANotes does not offer the convivence of voice to text. This would make inputting notes a lot quicker to enter.
Alison Brooks M. · Lead Mental Wellness Counselor · Mental Health Care · June 16, 2025
So far, I have had an amazing experiencing with ICANotes and am very happy with the choice that we made to start using this platform.
Pros: ICANotes gives me the ability to make changes, adjustments, and to add things to be able to meet my specific needs as a clinician. I am very satisfied with ICANotes. Customer Service is also amazing and to have so many trainings available is also amazing!
Cons: The treatment plan set up has been kind of confusing to me but with the trainings, I believe that I can learn it.
Megan P. · Therapist · Legal Services · June 16, 2025
Overall, very happy with ICANotes and I prefer it to the previous EHR systems I have used. The buttons make it so much easier for me to complete the documentation.
Pros: The ICANotes platform has streamlined and cut down on the amount of time it takes for me to write progress notes substantially.
Cons: The platform often takes a long time to log in and be responsive to clicks. User interface is somewhat dated and not always the most intuitive to use.
Melissa B. · LMHC · Hospital & Health Care · June 14, 2025
It has truly been the difference between success and failure for me. There is not way I would be this successful in private practice right now were it not for ICanotes.
Pros: Customer service, trainers, ease of use of system once you get to know it, Readability enhancer is great in its infancy.
Cons: Billing process can be confusing at times. I suspect I would be lost if it wasn't for the billing god [sensitive content hidden]. Please buy him a vehicle with a removable top to honor him. Readability enhancer at times does not go far enough. External audit reviewers (AAPC) still find readability enhancer often makes it sound "cut and pasted" from one note to another. Wish there was a credentialing piece to Innovalon/Icanotes. It would make it a much better "one stop shopping" experience. And I still laugh every time I say the phrase ICANotes......
John H. · owner · Individual & Family Services · June 13, 2025
I have no complaints honestly. Customer service is amazing. You get help almost immediately. It's a great EHR for small or big practices.
Pros: I love that it makes writing notes a breeze. I especially love their eprescribe! It is very user friendly.
Cons: There is really nothing that I don't like. I do wish that the calendar font on the patients name were bigger or more readable.
Alexandra G. · Owner,Provider · Mental Health Care · June 13, 2025
Good experience.
Pros: Super easy to assess, easy to understand.
Cons: That many documents are not in Spanish.
Maria C. · Admi · Mental Health Care · June 13, 2025
I am having problems grasping how to complete these assessments. Do you have a training session on BPAs?
Pros: The pre-written button options are great, however I tell my social workers that I also want some patient specific info included.
Cons: Completing the biopsychosocial assessments - I have been here 6 weeks and still don't grasp hoe and where to complete the BPAs.
