Blackboard Learn helps small and midsize teams deliver structured online courses and track learner progress. It’s most used by education-focused teams needing daily access to grading, assessments, and asynchronous learning. You’ll find a centralized learner portal and flexible test creation tools, but navigation and mobile performance are challenging. Recent updates include AI-generated conversations and pop-out rubrics.

Pros: I like the course arrangement and all the ediitng potential to tailor the classroom to our unique student needed
Cons: Im sorry its just not the prettiest. The whole platform still needs a style update and its difficult to use

In an education and learning oriented environment, it’s a platform that really allows to centralize courses, documents and exchanges in one same place.
Pros: What I liked is the ability of Blackboard to organise the trainings in a very structured way courses
Cons: To be more comfortable with it, you often need a small adaptation time before being totally at ease.

I will be using Blackboard for some upcoming college courses. I watched a number of their training videos. They were professionally done and the app appears fairly easy to use. Many/most of the vides were narrated by people whose first language was obviously English and easy to understand. However, some of the videos were narrated by individuals with heavy foreign accents. English was obviously not their first language. So unfortunately, I had difficulty understanding these individuals; and this adversely affected my ability to learn how to use this product. The prime objective of any instructional videos should be to convey information clearly and concisely; it should not entail political correctness or a diversity agenda especially when it comes to running a business. What's in the best interest of the customer should be any company's focus. Remember what happened to Bud Light?

Pros: The app appears to be easy to use. The training videos were well done (but with some exceptions noted below)
Cons: Some training videos were difficult to understand due to the narrators having heavy accents. English was obviously not their first language. Probably an attempt to encourage diversity at the customers expense.

I have used several Learning Manageement System in an academic environment, but Blackboard is the king of Learning Management. It is a powerful LMS for designing learning tools.
Pros: I found Blackboard a very robust Learning Management System. It has strong features, including grading learners' assignments, communication, the management of assignments, and providing activity feedback. It supports accessibility for all users on different types of devices and browsers.
Cons: The Blackboard interface can be intimidating for new users. Many of our users indicated that it is difficult to navigate it.
Jean-Pierre N. · Graduate Student, Instructor · Higher Education · December 16, 2025
Overall, from a user and blackboard made it easy to find documents. However, from the back end as an instructor trying to create whole courses, it became difficult to put any sort of custom design into the pages or templates. It did very well for assignment management too .
Pros: What I liked most about blackboard was that it has a clean interface and holding an E dialog between groups of people was very easy to do. Also, it was easy to upload files and share the links or links to files and overall, it was just a platform that allowed you to put items there for your users. From the user end it was very easy to understand and navigate blackboard and how to get to the materials I needed from my instructor.
Cons: What I like least about Blackboard was the lack of capability for page and template design. You had to stick to how blackboard set up the pages and customization was just not there. Additionally according to my higher management, the cost of blackboard was slightly higher than other LMS options so upper management decided to switch out blackboard to another LMS.

It is not my favorite learning platform but it does the job in it's basic function and with basic needs.
Pros: I used this a long time ago in my classroom and currently with my daughter's school. I think it is good for security and for elementary school usage.
Cons: I think it could do more to come up with the times and be a bit more user friendly. It is challenging to navigate at times.

I've used it both as a student and an instructor. Blackboard has a rich history of being one of the first online course management systems. My understanding is that they have evolved into another company (Anthology). So this is really about Blackboard the software product.
Pros: Blackboard was an early innovator of online teaching and learning. The colleges I attended and worked for embraced the concept of offering course content online. When I was in college I was on a team of ed tech support center workers who was influential in which system to officially adopt for offering online courses. Blackboard was one and WebCT (which Blackboard later aquired). Our college adopted WebCT, but Arizona State University where I earned by BS in Computer Science and M.Ed in Ed Tech was and is a Blackboard Learn campus so I have considerable experience in both environments from many perspectives.
Cons: The company was very monopolistic and sued just about every competing Learning Management System (LMS) vendor for creating online learning environments as they seemed to think that they invented teaching and learning online.

Blackboard helps me organize my classes in a Week by Week format, while also keeping within the structure of other classes at the same school. This allows easy navigation of the Blackboard page, saving students time and frustration.
Pros: It allows me to organize my course in a way that students can easily navigate through it. The page layout and design are much like competing products, so it is familiar to new users. It is easy to setup, as well.
Cons: Sometimes it has quirks, especially with the gradebook. It is also constantly changing, but that's also a pro at times.
Kimberly B. · College Professor · Education Management · September 12, 2025
Pros: Blackboard organizes classes and other courses for students in an easily accessible way. Class days, virtual classrooms, and online chatrooms for students are all organized in one application.
Cons: Blackboard tends to aggregate some due dates for student assignments but not others. This tends to be an issue for many users.
Maggie S. · Resident Assistant · Education Management · July 21, 2025
I think Blackboard has good potential but it is intimidating for some students who switch from competitors.
Pros: Blackboard is a good software for educators and for higher education students, and it has the functions for many different aspects of higher education.
Cons: Blackboard Learn is difficult to navigate in comparison to its competitors. It is harder to pick up on than other software. Once it is figured out, it is good software but it is more difficult.

I used Blackboard all throughout my undergrad experience for daily assignments and assessments.
Pros: I loved being able to access all classes in one spot and streamlining my course assignments.
Cons: At times the assignments would fail to load and need to be resubmitted.
Jenna W. · Teacher · E-Learning · April 27, 2025
I enjoyed using Blackboard. It was my favorite educational program to use as far as navigation and keeping up with courses.
Pros: Blackboard is very easy to navigate and use as a student.
Cons: Communication is not as efficient as other programs.

Its a good tool if you are an intermediate technology user. If you are a novice, it becomes a little harder to navigate
Pros: It is an organized system, fairly easy to navigate but not as user friendly than other products.
Cons: The email system and the Discussions forums, they could be further developed to become easier to navigate
Geeta T. · Director, Human Resource Service · Civic & Social Organization · January 10, 2025
Back in college, I used it for posting and responding to class discussions, and submitting my assignments. I feel as an LMS platform it offered quite basic functions.
Pros: I like the discussion board feature as the feature is the most used.
Cons: The user interface design is a bit outdated compared to nowadays LMS platforms. I think the colors, fonts, and the overall interface can be improved.

Ideal for large companies and businesses looking for all tools to make online learning pleasant and formative. Blackboard Learn, now Anthology, truly has endless resources to manage both users and courses in few clicks, implement many tricks to make it an intuitive experience. All educators might need is at stone's throw: assigning roles, building tests and assignments, real-time updates, text generation or creation with the help of Ai, all formats of files, to upload and download. Blackboard Learn is going the right way with its constant changes.
Pros: Blackboard Learn, now Anthology, revolutionized online and distance learning with amazing features in one place; its intuitive interface, different tools and integrations are all there to make the learning process smooth and enjoyable. Educators can manage courses and users in few clicks, have an idea about their activity stream, set assignments and tests with the help of Ai. In fact, introducing Ai tools brought Blackboard Learn to the fore: you can generate texts, activities, tests and assignment away from ChatGPT based platforms.
Cons: I have few words on what is missing in Blackboard Learn particularly system requirements: I often experience system crashes and lagging with Blackboard Learn platform. I still have something against cloud-based solutions as the file size with Blackboard Learn does not allow large files, which is weird, educators often need large files. One more thing, it is not ideal for small businesses.

Decent and was able to accomplish what I needed
Pros: It is fairly easy to use. It does take some getting used to and some of the functions don't make a lot of sense until you get used to it
Cons: There is a learning curve you must adjust too
Rory M. · Carpenter · E-Learning · December 13, 2024
Pros: Easy to use and onboard users, especially beginners.
Cons: Folder system can be a little tedious at times.
Kay D. · Student · E-Learning · December 11, 2024
Overall I enjoyed it. It got the job done.
Pros: Overall the platform does what it needs to do. It improved overtime.
Cons: When I first started using it, it didn’t have the best UI.
Manuel C. · Owner · Real Estate · December 8, 2024
Blackboard Learn is the profound choice in making all knowledge shared.
Pros: Blackboard Learn equips all stakeholders with a reliable information through learning
Cons: Blackboard Learn is determined and no demerit.
Chantal G. · Software Developer · Higher Education · November 24, 2024
I like the fact that you can hide content when you need to
Pros: Announcements and features are easy to do.
Cons: Too many steps to erase content I feel confused at times
Ari P. · Educator · Education Management · November 12, 2024
Pros: ease of navigation to different department sites
Cons: data storage and collaboration was lacking and hard to navigate
David H. · Technical Support · Education Management · October 25, 2024
I have enjoyed using Blackboard Learn and feel that it meets all the needs of an online learning platform in terms of function.
Pros: I love how functional it is and how thoughtfully crafted it is for students and instructors alike.
Cons: At times the interface lacks aesthetic value, especially when it comes to writing your own responses on the platform and using it on a mobile device.
Li G. · Student · Higher Education · August 30, 2024
Pros: Blackboard did do a great job of organizing online classes and content was hard to find.
Cons: The app wasn't as user friendly and as an organization it had too many university-wide breakdowns.
Roger S. · Professor · Higher Education · August 26, 2024
Overall, the ease of use and the ability to have so much content in one place makes it a great product.
Pros: Blackboard learn is easy to use both for teachers and students.
Cons: Sometimes you have to use four or five clicks to get where you want to go.
Sam K. · Supervisor · Education Management · July 14, 2024
Blackboard is competitive with Canvas and other course management systems for higher education. It can be used across synchronous, asychronous and hybrid course offerings. It is a bit limited in its customizability features, but overall it is a solid course management system.
Pros: Blackboard is fairly easy to use and is easy to onboard with. It is familar to most students and professors.
Cons: Some of my least favorite features included the limits on customizability of the course features (such as colors) and the clunky UI.
