The trial/free plan is a major lure to move you to paid. This is without providing support or real-time usage. The trial/free plan claims each month, you are provided with usage credits/minutes. But my experience 1st used there was NO monthly minutes provided, only big+bold adv to upgrade to a paid plan. Misleading bots with zero support.
Pros: The easy file upload process. That's it. The only good thing is that file uploading is fairly easy to do.
Cons: Almost everything else is a pain. The app/site is not particularly user-friendly. The bots are constantly popping up to urge a pay plan, which would happen if full-service were available. At the very least, a 90-day assessment. Descript DOES NOT offer a full trial/free plan and is therefore NOT a good video editing tool.

Its been fantastic using this tool. Especially the monthly free credits is exceptional and non like others.
Pros: I love the captions very much. With Descript, I am able to add caption to all my Youtube videos. Also the transcription is so smooth and fast.
Cons: Its a bit slow to edit and make changes to captions. You will have to highlight the sentences one after the other.

Happy with overall descript experience. Script writing, recording, basic editing are working well. Not being a designer - I can release product demo videos easily
Pros: Liked the AI Voiceover, and the whole recording experience. The webapp is simple to use and learning curve is comparatively less. Making your own AI voice as well working pretty well.
Cons: AI Avatar generation is pretty bad. Unlike AI voice, avatar feels very basic. Descript misses couple of important feature like Zoom in while recording - i don't a how a recording tool can miss that out.

Pros: Descript is easy to use for recording and basic editing, and the workflow is convenient when everything works. The web app makes it simple to access projects without installing heavy software, and the built-in tools for transcription and quick edits can save time.
Cons: Reliability and support follow-through. Projects edited months earlier appeared as raw recordings later, with missing cuts and effects. Support could not recover the edits and did not clearly explain why affected projects had backup files while truly raw projects did not. The response felt dismissive.

My overall experience was great I enjoyed the tool learning curve. It’s great for someone like me who is learning to edit. Descript makes it easy and enjoyable. It has strong AI features as well. I would definitely use it again.
Pros: I appreciate how you can upload a full video on the descipt platform and it takes the best video clips for you. Descript saves you time on editing and is user friendly. No more long hours wasted on editing. It is a platform for beginners who are learning to edit. Great at transcriptions and removing filler words.
Cons: I find that if you have larger files it may take longer to edit and may slow performance on your chrome book or an older computer. It depends what type of desktop your using. If you can afford the higher tiers they have great features.

I was introduced to this platform a few years ago, and it has been a game-changer so far, thanks to its ease of use, accuracy, and high production quality.
Pros: Descript has simplified video editing for me by a landslide! I no longer spend my time analyzing frame after frame, decoding what is said, and creating manual captions. The use of AI in this instance is constructive!
Cons: I think I wish there were more caption designs for the videos that I edit -- just to switch up the appearance.

Unfortunately, the developers have slowly destroyed what was a fantastic tool. This has been very sad to watch. I truly enjoyed using Descript before and raved about it to everyone. The fact that the developers push new updates and features at a seemingly daily basis seems to be at the heart of things. Rather than a thoughtful process of preserving what people loved about the software and methodically stepping out enhancements, the tool has slowly devolved into an unreliable, unpleasant, and unusable tool.
Pros: Descript USED to be my favourite tool for screen recordings and voice overs. The previous version (about a year ago) was reliable, easy to use, and had all the features to expedite workflow in going from a raw screen recording to a polished video.
Cons: The current software is unusable. The most significant issues are in corrupted and failed recordings. Short segments (roughly a word or two in length) are randomly dropped at multiple points in a recording, and in other cases the recording stops (without warning) midway through. More generally, where once the editor was slick and responsive, it has become glitchy and laggy. It does not accurately show the video in the timeline (so it is not synced with the audio, making edits almost impossible). My last few recordings I tried multiple times, but each one had major errors and I finally gave up, cancelled my subscription, and moved onto other software tools.

I have been very impressed with the speed and efficiency of Descript for editing (I use it for 15-45 minute training videos primarily of me to screen, and then add examples and annotations on top). It was intuitive to learn and I did so without support, despite being a total novice. It has saved me a lot of time and money I could have spent on someone doing it for me.
Pros: The ability to edit by removing words and chunks from the transcript is superb - it really makes editing a breeze for a complete amateur (like me). I also like how I can add images, notes, titles and so on to the video either on top of the recording or by insertion. The captions function is great, and surprisingly accurate.
Cons: I'm an amateur editor (I use it to create training courses in the main) so I'm not sure what I'm missing, but really there's nothing I would immediately change. It's great.

I love descript. I feel it is very innovative in this world of editing and the tools they update with actually make sense to the average editor. I do think simpler terms for their workflow would be helpful and an ai/veo option would be very helpful.
Pros: The Ui/Ux is very clean and intuitive. A lot of products on the market are very cluttered and confusing but descript isn't. I also like the built in dark mode because if you are editing a lot its easier on the eyes.
Cons: The way to batch export is redundant. It should be simpler and easier to clip up a long form piece of work and simply export all clips, all audios etc in one simple clip. The delineation between markers, compositions, sequences etc is confusing.
Daze M. · Digital Marketing Specialist · Marketing and Advertising · August 20, 2025
I have lost so much time due to bugs and performance issues. Files losing audio randomly, projects taking forever to load and freezing every other second, the software crashing in the middle of a recording session. Far too many bugs to count. My workflow is essentially nonexistent because i'm constantly troubleshooting. Generally the support people are helpful, but i can only spend so much time talking in circles with their AI assistant before moving to a person to help me fix the problems caused by the software.
Pros: I like the idea of this program. On paper it seems very helpful. The text based editing helps me map out my episodes and some of the tools help me repurpose clips and stuff.
Cons: There are far too many bugs for it to be useful. I'm not exaggerating when i say that i have to deal with multiple BIG problems every day. I've gotten maybe a quarter of the work done that i've needed to. This software's performance is just terrible.

Fine. Customer service does their thing when you try to get your money back because the product just doesn’t quite fit. Go use Riverside.fm for the same thing for cheaper with better quality, better features, more customization, and reel format export.
Pros: In-line editor works okay. Highlighting to create scenes is a feature I’m glad they have. Export to google docs is a + for speed.
Cons: -Classic money capture play. Calling it “seats” might make you think you’re Salesforce, but you’re target market is mainly one man or woman shows trying to learn. Licking people up for a year doesn’t sold your problem of achieving consistently growing ARR, having the best product for your target market does that. -Bait and switch on features for Hobbyist necessitates upgrade to higher price tier level for feature that should be built in. Money trap, then bait and switch. -No export into reel format video; means to do this you have to stretch and lose video quality.

Descript is a game-changer for anyone looking to streamline their audio and video editing process--especially for beginners. It has great features like automatic transcription, screen recording, and text-based editing. The ability to edit media files as easily as editing a Word document saves significant time and effort.
Pros: Extremely user friendly. I was able to get started editing audio files immediately. This software is so easy to use and really speeds up the editing process.
Cons: It's cloud based, so you can't use it without internet access. While it's very easy to use, it lacks some of the features that come with more complex systems (i.e. complex audio processing options, like equalizers and advanced effects)

Overall, I'm happy using Descript. I'm impressed by the speech-to-text and editing capabilities. It allows me to create professional software demo videos.
Pros: I use Descript for screen recording software demos. The speech-to-text transcript functionality is excellent. The video can be edited side-by-side with the transcript editor. If you remove or correct parts of the text, the video is synced. Auto-cleanup of vocal disfluencies or hesitations ensures a clean and professional-sounding end result. Finally, I use the transcribed talk track for auto-generating subtitles, and I share it with co-workers as input for written content.
Cons: Processing of a video takes a long time. It requires a lot of computational resources and somewhat undoes the time savings of recording. The U.I. takes some time to figure out when you are new to Descript.

Overall, I enjoy working in Descript and find it has a lot to offer in the video/audio space.
Pros: Descript makes it easy to communicate with our production team for edits, pulling of soundbites, etc. It's also nice that it is its own app with storage due to the size of most files.
Cons: Combining multiple files from one podcast for editing is a little strenuous.
Morgan N. · Operations Manager · Health, Wellness and Fitness · September 11, 2024
Pros: What's not to like about this software. It's incredibly powerful, but also intuitive and easy to use. There are plenty of training resources and even for a novice it's not out of the question to hit the ground running on day one!
Cons: Not much to dislike. This software is amazing. On a couple rare occasions I had issues with my video and audio being out of sync, but that was easy to correct.
Max H. · Director of Marketing · Computer Software · May 16, 2024
Overall ok. Fix the 2 issues described above and I go from an 8 to a 9.5
Pros: I like the text based editing feature. The AI tools are good as well.
Cons: The pricing is a little high. I have to spend too much time cleaning up the transcript between transcript errors and Speaker labels, If those worked well, I could greatly reduce the time it takes me to get a podcast ready to publish.

It's been an overwhelmingly positive experience. I would recommend this product to any company that wants to quickly transcribe meetings and save hours and hours of work.
Pros: The main reason we use Descript is to transcribe meetings. It takes just a few minutes to transcribe an hour long meeting, and it saves us the time of doing it ourselves with a human. We can then easily reference the meeting later when we need to create content based on what was said in the meeting.
Cons: Nothing so far. I haven't used all the features, and although it's primarily used for podcasts and videos, we haven't yet used all of these features at our company. For transcribing meetings though, it's been a life saver.
Nikola S. · Copywriter · Marketing and Advertising · March 25, 2024
Very positive. Excited to play around with it more
Pros: The ability to record and transcribe how-to videos in real time with ease
Cons: Nothing so far. Just started using it recently but it's been a really great tool that's been added for us across the company
Cole B. · Support Specialist · Computer Software · January 30, 2024
Excellent for what it does, especially for quick video and podcast production.
Pros: Because it's text based, Descript makes editing video and audio easy, especially when working with complex or long files.
Cons: Because it's text based, muting background noise or other minor things that would be easy in a different editor are difficult.
Jeremy C. · Marketing and Communications Director · Performing Arts · December 25, 2023
Superb... I hunted for the right product to edit my training & coaching videos. I'll not be looking any further now I've found Descript
Pros: Ease of use, edit video like a text document, AI features
Cons: The initial learning curve. It's such a powerful platform that it will always take a little getting used to. The How To content is awesome and really helpful
Paul A. · Founder · Marketing and Advertising · November 24, 2023
Pros: We use descript for two things: audio transcription (sometimes many hours a month) and for text based video and audio editing for staff who are less tech savvy. It works beautifully for both things.
Cons: I get so frustrated with the CONSTANT moving around of features and the sunsetting of classic might even make us switch projects. The editing aspect especially, we use it because it makes sense for folks who are more word (rather than visually) focused and for less tech savvy employees who just need to take out a word here or there or trim a video. The constant messing around with the environment confuses folks!
Kelli D. · COO · Entertainment · September 10, 2023
Descript has definitely helped me grow my workflow. I'm exporting and transferring files way less. And it has also allowed me to dive into simple video editing for video podcasts and social clips.
Pros: Really love how easy it is to edit audio and video with text. Searching for specific phrases or moments via text instead of scrolling and trying to find it saves so much time!
Cons: The audio mixing features are still a bit lacking in my mind, especially if you get into a more complicated composition. But I work around by mixing and exporting audio in Pro Tools and dragging it in for the edit and music!
Jordan M. · Sole Proprietor · Media Production · September 4, 2023
I was impressed with the variety of features offered by this description website for audio and video editing. These features included speech recognition, call recording, automatic transcription, audio editing, screen recording, audio recording, and video montage. This made it a comprehensive platform for me to create and edit audio and video content.
Pros: I was able to get a transcript of my audio recordings in just a few
Cons: I found it difficult to cut, paste, and adjust the volume of my audio files.
zerouali s. · nursing specialist youtuber · Hospital & Health Care · August 24, 2023
I like the software so much it makes my work easy
Pros: Editing and text to speech, the voice are realistic enough to be used with sounding robotic
Cons: Nothing, I like everything about it plus it is regularly updated
Deborah O. · Content creator · E-Learning · August 18, 2023
Amazing
Pros: I love the studio sound feature that can turn my echo filled and mediocre audio into amazing audio. It also puts silence between the words spoken which makes it easier to cut and edit audio.
Cons: I've had a few issues with the studio sound process slowing down significantly the more I use it in a single setting.
