We spent close to a million on a failed deployment to our business. It was not an appropriate choice for a complex distribution business like ours. We have only been able to use it for a small number of users at a small business unit. Sage has been a poor partner, clearly seeing us as a revenue source and not a business partner. They deflected our technical questions back to their 3rd party sales channel and offer little for the support fees that we pay them. Never sign a contract with Sage that might have support fees for a preproduction system, make them share the risk of a delayed deployment.
Pros: The modern user interface and feature richness. The ability to add custom fields and business logic in the core processes. Users can customize the menu system to exactly what they need and skip the rest.
Cons: Sage charging us for services that we could not use. Their warranty is designed to be useless. The 3rd party add on for warehouse management called Datalinx is closed source and takes way too much back and forth to get customizations made by the small staff in England. I was misled by our Sage partner that Datalinx was just as customizable as core X3. Without Datalinx X3s warehouse/barcode abilities were so dismal that they would not even sell it to me. They switched to subscription only and seem to dislike us because we have a perpetual license, even though we pay annual support.

I WOULD NEVER SUGGEST IT TO ANY COMPANY. I THINK IT IS VERY MESSY AND LEAVES TOO MUCH ROOM FOR INCONSISTANCIES.

Cons: NOT USER-FRIENDLY AT ALL, IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR YOU WILL GET A LOT OF ERRORS AND CREATE PROBLEMS BEHIND THE SCENES THAT YOU AREN'T EVEN AWARE OF. LEAVES VERY LITTLE ROOM FOR ERROR TO FIX THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN MIXED UP.

We are still in the final phases of implementation but overall it seems like a very capable ERP platform.
Pros: Customization options within the ERP software. Compared to other players in the ERP field I think it is a good value proposition.
Cons: The amount of available documentation seems a little sparse from the website. Also if you use the Sage University for training they limit documentation that you can download.

Overall, Sage X3 improved workflow consistency, operational visibility, and collaboration between departments while helping reduce manual approvals reporting work, and disconnected processed.
Pros: Sage X3 helped centralize workflows, improve reporting visibility, and automate repetitive operational tasks across finance, inventory, and procurement teams while reducing manual coordination work.
Cons: The learning curve can be difficult for new users, and some advanced configurations and reporting sections require additional setup time and technical support to fully optimize workflows.

Pros: The customizability of Sage allowed for us to manage our unique products and sales processes in a way not previously possible.
Cons: There are a handful of restrictions that make it difficult. An example includes not being able to allocate product to quotes.
Spencer K. · Director of Enterprise Services · Food & Beverages · April 30, 2026
Pros: It is customizable, and widely used for a variety of company types. We use a vendor and experience easy implementation.
Cons: I don’t know 4GL, so instead of in house customizations we have a third party vendor for our changes.

Overall it does the job required of a finance system. The issues with it is that is is hard to scale. It is difficult to get out of the box functionality to work without having to get specialist help which can come at a price. The system feels quite clunky with multiple steps to get to a result or output. Maybe better for smaller businesses.
Pros: Sage X3 is a good financial system for a small to medium company. Transactions are easy to track and to post with the relevant screens that can be navigated through. It is also good for a company with multiple entities as these can be interchanged and tracked easily. The reporting functionality 'SEI' which is an excel add in is quite good and allows individuals to create reports which can be used for relevant purposes. This is a quick and easy way of getting information from the system. the debtors and creditors aging reporting is also quite good which allows us to see a good overview of the transactional aspects of the business.
Cons: Difficult to make any changes if required. There is little information available for self help so if any changes need to be made or assistance then this usually requires an additional cost or discussions with specialists which can be timely and costly. For example, a change in the year end date was not easy for us as there has been forward postings for deferred revenue. Additionally control is a bit lacking with Sage X3, it is difficult to do things like close down month end or specify roles due to having to look in multiple places. A simple month end close you have to go to about 4/5 screens so it is easy to make mistakes here. It is also difficult to upgrade when different patches are released and usually you have to get specialist help with this which can be expensive.

Overall my experiences with sage X3 have been very positive. Once proficient in the system it is very effective and has many features to aid in stock management.
Pros: Sage X3 is a brilliant stock based sage system. It has enhanced features for costing and warehouse management.
Cons: My least favourite components of sage X3 is the complexity of the system. There is not a beginner friendly system, but useful when learnt.
Lyn J. · Senior Manager · Construction · April 15, 2026
It brings inventory, purchsing, finance into ine system, so we don’t rely in seprate tools anymore that reduces manual errors and keeps data consistent
Pros: I’have been using Sage X3 close to last year now mainly handling inventory and reposting. The flexibility stand out. we’ve adjusted workflow, built custom reports using the query tool, and connected it with other system through web services. It handles multi location stock and finance together, which saves a lit of back and forth.
Cons: The learning curve is real. Some workflows are not very obvious and you need proper training to understand how things connect. Documentation could be better in some areas.

Expert level , I have been using, researching and supporting sage x3 for 9 years for multiple manufacturing companies.
Pros: The multiple configuration possibilities. The multiple modules. Mobile automation. The development and administration area.
Cons: The online help topics. The reports. The cost. The complexity of the Syracuse/Mongo DB setup and lack of documentation available for users. The force use of resellers for acquiring new licenses, documentation and help.

My overall experience with Sage X3 has been positive. It is a powerful and flexible ERP system that effectively supports complex business processes across finance, supply chain, and manufacturing. While it has a learning curve, its customization capabilities and robustness make it highly suitable for medium to large enterprises
Pros: Strong flexibility and scalability across modules, especially in finance, manufacturing, and supply chain. The system allows extensive customization, robust reporting (SQL/Query Tool), and supports complex processes like inter-site, multi-company, and regulatory compliance integrations
Cons: The user interface can feel outdated and less intuitive compared to modern systems. Performance may slow down with large data volumes, and some configurations require strong technical knowledge, making implementation and troubleshooting more complex
Usman K. · Sage Consultant · Mining & Metals · March 31, 2026
Pros: Streamlines complex operations with real-time data, boosts efficiency across finance/supply chain, and scales easily for growing businesses.
Cons: Certain tiers be expensive, complex to set up, and may require training or consultants to use effectively.

No ERP is perfect but, value for money, ease of use, and the flexibility to be customized. One of the best ERP systems in the market.
Pros: Value for money - Advanced functionality for an affordable price, especially when compared with other Tier 1 ERPs like SAP and Oracle. Ease of use- Fairly useful UI. Customizations - One of the most flexible ERPs in the market.
Cons: Frankly, it is an very good ERP solution. It can compete with Tier 1 products like SAP and Oracle, and the pricing (both in licensing and implementation fees) is well bellow those.

Overall i have had a positive interaction with X3, however the inital start can be difficult as it can be quite complex. It is an effective tool for product based businesses with complex stock systems.
Pros: Sage X3 is a useful tool for accountants in a manufacturing based business looking to keep track of various stock types. It has an approachable interface that can be utilised in various ways to generate stock reports and utililisation reports.
Cons: The initial issues i had with X3 were in relation to the learning curve, it can be quite difficult to fully adapt to the system and understand how to use all the tools effectively.

I enjoy working with Sage, I work with integrations outside of Sage (ODBC or using a partners Sage WebService).
Pros: I enjoy the customizations, there are plenty of courses available online (both paid and free) to help learn Sage X3.
Cons: From the clients perspective, the customizations require a very technical, or even certified employee or a certified partner in order to customize Sage X3.

I like to use this accounting software. It help me to save a lot of time and allow me to do something else.
Pros: Your software is easy to use, the accounting management is user friendly. Excellent value for this price.
Cons: I can’t use the entire functionality of the software due to a malfunction of the bank link process with Desjardins.

overall, sage x3 has been solid. it’s flexible, covers most business processes, and helps us stay efficient. the customization options are great for tailoring to our needs, and it’s easy to work with once you get the hang of it
Pros: I like sage x3 because it’s flexible, secure, and covers most business processes especially Sales side. it follows best practices and can be customized to fit specific needs for customers. it’s easy to use, and with help from it and the sage team, changes can be made to meet business goals.
Cons: what i liked least about sage x3 is it’s kinda hard to learn at first. some parts are confusing and not super user-friendly. customizing stuff takes time and you need help from it. also, support isn’t always quick.

It's great. I love the modifiability. As i learn more and more i am amazed at the breadth of the built in features.
Pros: With X3 you can make the software fit your business. Not make your business fit the software. The tools are built in to make this happen.
Cons: Improvements and changes for new technology and features are rapid. Though the tools are there to move to new versions, it is still time consuming. Typically it's a weekend project at least.

I have been working with X3 for over 3 years, and my overall experience with ERPs is more than 12 years. This experience is controversial. On one side, it constantly amazes me with its wide range of customization. On the other side, there is a steep learning curve, complexity, and poor documentation.
Pros: Flexibility. Many things that require customizations in other ERPs can be done in Sage X3 via options, configurations, and formulas.
Cons: Steep learning curve. As one of my Sage X3 course instructors said, "Despite your experience with ERPs, in Sage X3 you can't play it by ear or guess; you must know. The workflow is often not logical."
Ruben M. · IT Operations Manager · Computer Software · August 19, 2025
Pros: Processes for payments setting up ach payments processing accounts payable invoices setting up new vendors
Cons: Filtering was my least favorite. And some of the setup functions for processing payments for accounts.
Tanetia F. · Accounting Supervisor · Food Production · July 29, 2025
Cyril L. · Responsable Systèmes d'Informations · Building Materials · June 17, 2025
My overall experience with Sage X3 has been positive. It’s a scalable enterprise level ERP that offers deep functionality for companies with complex needs. Once the system is properly implemented and users are trained it becomes a central hub for efficient business operations. The initial setup and ongoing support do require a commitment of time and resources. For organizations ready to invest in a long term ERP solution Sage X3 delivers value and flexibility.
Pros: Sage X3 is a robust and flexible ERP system that excels in managing complex business operations across multiple departments, locations, and even countries. I particularly appreciated the customization options and its powerful reporting capabilities. The workflow automation and audit tracking features also significantly streamlined our business processes and improved visibility across the board.
Cons: The user interface is not the most intuitive especially for new users or non technical staff. There is a steep learning curve and the system requires thorough training to unlock its full potential. While customization is a strength it often requires developer support which can become costly over time. Some updates and patches have also caused temporary disruptions.

A very good software, not as user friendly as other software applications but above all a good product. All information is there and accessible. You may have to look a bit more deeply to find what you want at times.
Pros: So many ways to process data and a wide array of reports for data view the information that you are looking for.
Cons: Data Entry of payments a bit lengthy--too much manual effort at times. Would like to be able to do multiple lines at once or in a more flowing way.
PEGGIE W. · AR Analyst · Health, Wellness and Fitness · May 20, 2025
Pros: Supports accounting, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, sales, human resources, and supply chain management in one system.
Hassan B. · Freelance · Program Development · May 20, 2025
Overall it’s a solid system. It took us a bit to get the hang of it but now it’s saving us time and hassle daily
Pros: I like how Sage X3 helps keep everything connected from inventory to finance without needing a bunch of tools
Cons: The setup and learning process isn’t super quick and can be frustrating without some IT help along the way
