Overall it's my go-to tool whenever I need to translate a generic file for a client. The additional app that allows to manage and create termbases is of great help too.
Pros: It's a great tool for freelance translators; what I like the most is the possibility of translating different type of files without losing their format (pdf, word, ppt etc.). It's quite beginner-friendly, although there are some courses available (for purchase on the website) to learn additional features more in depth.
Cons: Sometimes has very long loading times for bigger files or even crashes. As far as I know it does not allow to translate video or similar (for which in general there are more speficif tools).

Overall, Trados Studio is a solid, professional-grade CAT tool that delivers when it comes to translation memory management and consistency. It’s powerful and reliable, but it does take time to get fully comfortable with it. Once everything is set up, it performs well — though I sometimes find myself wishing it were just a bit lighter and more streamlined.
Pros: Trados Studio is a very capable tool with strong translation memory and termbase management features. It handles large projects well and offers plenty of options for customization. Once you know your way around it, it can be very efficient and precise.

The product is nice. The service so far is terrible. I cannot get anyone to respond to my messages and there is no way to call them. Their website just spins when you try to access any help.
Pros: I liked the product after doing a trial, so my organization decided to buy it. Customer service is bad.
Cons: The customer service is abysmal. My organization purchased the product in March, they cashed our check, but have not provided the full license we purchased. They say they are still awaiting payment.

The automated translation is pretty useful. Helps with proofreading tasks. I have been using it since 2009, bought several versions and still feel like a newbie.
Pros: Powerful tool and one of the first of its kind
Cons: Too big of a learning curve. Interface is not too user friendly.

Love the idea behind it, frustrated by all the issues.
Pros: The software functions (if they would only work like they're supposed to)
Cons: Absolutely riddled with bugs that have been around for years and years. I used to update to each new version (no longer wasting the money), hoping they would have taken care of some of the bugs. But they never do. And then there are new ones. Absolutely inexcusable for such an expensive software.

My overall experience has been to sigh, cringe, shout, and overall feel like all my issues with Trados are the result of intentional design.
Pros: It has lots of options that allow you to do practically anything you want. It is the industry standard, which allows you to work with others easily.
Cons: It's complex, buggy, the layout is clumsy, features and options are hidden deep within the belly of the beast, and Trados' editor forces the use of their proprietary formats, which makes everyone's lives harder.

I've been using Trados for over thirty years. It's an excellent professional Translation enviroment and CAT tool
Pros: Complete professional translation environment
Cons: - Documentation - Such features as term extraction cost extra
Riccardo S. · Translator · Writing and Editing · August 8, 2024
Overall a very good translation solution, although a bit pricy since the new tarifs.
Pros: It can handle big translation memories, is multifunctional for almost any type of text or format.
Cons: It sometimes has a bug, is not always straightforward to use, as it requires time to understand all of its functions. The price...

I translate always with Trados, I use Google Cloud. Now Aritifical Intelligence developeed.
Pros: It saves from repetitions, it uses Memories, Machine Translation
Cons: Its startup is sluggish though I naised memory to 16 mB RAM. It would be better to load after full openinğ.
ILKER G. · Translator owner · Translation and Localization · December 11, 2023
Terrible. User-unfriendly. Bugs here and there. When you use this, please be prepared to spend more time troubleshooting than translating.
Pros: Nothing. It wastes a lot of my time in troubleshooting every single time.
Cons: $7a
Zhuofu L. · Director · Writing and Editing · July 8, 2023
Pros: Very precise, very commonly used in translation industry, does its job well.
Cons: Expensive, somehow slow, not very user friendly.
Andrea L. · Translator (freelance) · Translation and Localization · June 14, 2023
I was used to other similar CAT tools, but overall Trados is the best tool by far.
Pros: It really speed up my translations. The Machine Translations are really accurate.
Cons: It takes a little time to get to know all the functionalities. It can be a little overwhelming at the beginning.
Samuel A. · Software · Telecommunications · May 8, 2023
Eli G. · Traduttore · Internet · January 24, 2023
Pros: Supporta diverse tipologie di file e di formati
Cons: La grafica e l'interfaccia utente sembra arretrata e non è user friendly
Anonymous User · Project Manager · Translation and Localization · January 15, 2023
Cons: 結構、頻繁にエラーや不具合が発生します。
Anonymous User · 翻訳サービス · Translation and Localization · December 7, 2022
Great. Without Trados Studio I wouldn't accept any of my translation jobs (I do partly webdesign/programming, partly translation) because I absolutely need this tool to get a raw base translation I can then edit and fine-tune.
Pros: That it facilitates third-party neural machine-based translation engines like DeepL.
Cons: The UI feels a bit old-fashioned and sometimes overcrowded.
Jens Olaf K. · Freelancer · Writing and Editing · October 3, 2022
Pros: Trados supports a lot more file formats than any other CAT tool. If I compare Trados to Memsource, it is more sophisticated, and has more applications; and the translator if he/her has some time to spend can customize the software and use its advantages to the fullest. A very good feature - 100% matches copy and confirm themselves. No need for the Internet. You just need your computer and a valid TRADOS version.
Cons: $7b
Auda F. · Freelance translator · Translation and Localization · August 14, 2022
I have mixed feeling about the product. It took me years to really accept it until the industry made it almost mandatory to use it and I had to learn how to use it.
Pros: It has many likeable features which are updated frequently and work very well.
Cons: Sometimes the software is hard to use and you need special training to understand and use the product.
Roberto R. · CEO · Translation and Localization · August 11, 2022
Pros: It is very easy to understand and to use. You can easily go to the workflow section and once you have learned the main features (how to use TM and TB, add/remove tags, go to the next segment, etc) you will procede at high speed.
Cons: Sometimes the review mode is inserted without having chosen it.
Chiara P. · Freelance translator · Translation and Localization · August 8, 2022
No good at all for me. I find it confusing and not easy to use.
Pros: I did not like much actually. I had great expectations but in the end I was a bit frustrated.
Cons: It is confusing. I expected much from the product as it is very popular. But the price is way too high and what it offers is not something we can`t find in other similar products.
Antonio R. · Translator · Translation and Localization · July 21, 2022
Our overall experience with Trados Studio is that it is a tool that is hard to master. We think that at some stage no love was put any longer into this tool.
Pros: We use this software because we have to. We're a translation company and our clients ask us to use this tool. They made an investment in Trados Studio years or even decades ago and they are reluctant to change. There is nothing really we like about this tool. However, we have to use it daily.
Cons: $7c

It is a good product. It changed my life. I increased my productivity. It has a lot of settings allowing to adjust it perfectly to my needs.
Pros: It works offline. No need for Internet connection. Sometimes that is very important. Great functionality.
Cons: If TM is huge, it is necessary to have powerful PC.
Rostyslav B. · Translator · Civil Engineering · July 12, 2022
I think it is the best CAT tool. It might seem difficult to use at first, but it is a true powerhouse with so many features...
Pros: Many features, options, smart actions, integration with other tools, many add-ons (also third party add-ons). It is extremely good CAT tool, and in my opinion it is the best CAT tool right now.
Cons: Licensing. It is unbelievable how licensing can annoy users who paid for the software and how it is limiting them (binding to a specific hardware, server activation/deactivation - terrible when the site is down for maintenance and you need to switch the license from your office computer to home computer for some weekend work).

Trados Studio is the business standard which means it that it's a must-have for any professional translator. It is difficult to learn, and never ceases to frustrate, but, overall, it can be the only tool you really need.
Pros: This software is standard within the translation business and therefore a must-have for every professional translator. The software can be very powerful once you have learned to master it.
Cons: The learning curve is very steep, the user interface is counter-intuitive, bordering on byzantine. Even for power users with many years of use, this software never ceases to confuse. The development has stalled, which means that competing software is now just as good, or better, but Trados Studio is still a must-have due to its ubiquity.
Daniel L. · Government authorized translator · Information Services · May 28, 2022
Pros: There's a reason Trados is considered the standard for CAT tools across the industry. Not only is it one of the largest as far as functionality, but it's our #1 litmus test for not only our linguists but also our team members. Even if somebody never touches translation directly, it's important for them to know and understand how Trados works and how our software can integrate with it. I also personally love the videos and resources that are available to help troubleshoot any issues. Since it so widely used, there are also large communities of users that share tips and solutions that work for them.
Cons: I feel like this is probably the complaint I see the most often, that Trados can be "clunky," unintuitive, and slow. It definitely has some quirks in those areas, but as long as you realize that when you're getting on, that it's just going to take as long as it takes and you're patient with it then it goes great.
