I use the software almost daily in my current work experience to manage floodplain analysis projects. The software result is accepted by our clients, city, and regulatory bodies (like TRCA, LSRCA, CLOCA, etc). The floodplain analysis results were used to generate a regulatory floodplain map, cut/fill balance volume calculations, and report writings.
Pros: I like Geo HEC-RAS because I can easily model hydraulic modeling. Lates to import/export HEC-RAS file, CAD drawings, Visualize the HEC-RAS modeling, analysis, and see results. moreover, they have very supportive technical staffs who have rendered their technical support when ever I contacted them.
Cons: No, I don't remember for the time being. I like most of the features.

My overall experience has been positive. Early versions of the program had minor bugs. The GEOHEC-RAS team was quick to respond and address the bugs. Subsequent versions have addressed all of the early bugs.
Pros: The software allows the integration of CAD information, GIS information, and previous HEC-RAS models. This simplifies model updates and calibration.
Cons: The program required more CPU capacity than my previous computer had. Once my computer was updated the program functioned much better.

GeoHecRas has allowed us to produce extremely good engineering work, and greatly improved our ability to communicate the results to the public through use of exceptional images and animations.
Pros: How quickly a HecRas Model can be created.
Cons: It's lost its licensing attributes a couple times.
Stephen B. · Project Engineer/Manager · Civil Engineering · January 3, 2023
Very easy in input information and very good customer support.
Pros: It is easy to see the input when creating the model.
Cons: None, everything worked well and the customer support was able to help with problems.

I know for me, (and probably most of the people on my team) would be much less productive if we were doing what we are doing without GeoHECRAS. The user friendliness of the program makes it easy to train new hires not only to know how the program works, but understand the concepts and methods of the work we do. CivilGeo has the best customer service of any company i have ever had to deal with even outside of work.
Pros: $7b
Cons: Editing shapefile polylines/gons is still much easier to do in GIS with access to more tool options. Running HEC-RAS within the software is not my favorite as multiple windows pop up and steal your mouse. The flow file table is transposed from normal HEC-RAS, which takes time to enter flow data for every reach when flows are updated.

Pros: GeoHECRAS is extremely user friendly and allows you to graphically edit the model, which saves considerable time compared to HECRAS. The software integrates extremely well with Civil 3D and provides great visual output. Using this software has cut down the required modelling time significantly.
Cons: The software is not capable of competing ice jam analyses. Typically, you must open the GeoHECRAS model in HECRAS to complete the ice jam analysis.

It is making modeling bridges and culverts much easier for our company.
Pros: How easy it makes HEC-RAS to use which is an industry standard now.
Cons: Sometime editing the roadway geometry does not work and I wish you could draw reaches using a surface so it could find the low point of a channel.
Chris B. · Project Engineer · Civil Engineering · December 8, 2022
Pros: Ease of use. We find that using geo-hecras helps with the setup and execution of modeling tasks.
Cons: I think there could be improvements to assist with analysis and reporting of results, particularly for 2D modeling.
Kip M. · Principal Engineer · Environmental Services · December 7, 2022
Pros: It is easy to use and visualize what you are doing compared to the original HecRas. It is very user friendly in editing items and has an undo button to easily undo anything you wish to change back.
Cons: More options on comparing the different scenario analysis output. GeoHecRas outputs are like the original HecRas outputs.
Zack E. · Engineer · Civil Engineering · November 11, 2022
Pros: Ease of use and the ability to import/export data to/from Civil 3D is easy and seamless. GeoHECRAS has one of the best support staff's that I have seen.
Cons: I have experienced some crashes on startup, but this may be caused by hardware.
Gianni A. · Civil Engineer · Civil Engineering · November 8, 2022
Useful in updating older models and in creating reasonable hydraulic models.
Pros: Relatively easy to use. Easily interfaces with HECRAS. Registering older unregistered HECRAS models to a coordinate system and aligning the stream to the physical world is easy to do.
Cons: Needs current scour calculator. The current calculator is based on an older version of the scour method currently used by FHWA.

Great user interface that is very easy to use and is intuitive to a new comer.
Pros: I like the variety of data that can be brought into GeoHECRAS. Also, the online library of data that can be brought in is nice as well.
Cons: The capabilities of GeoHECRAS are what I expect from this software, there is nothing I dislike about it.
Andrew L. · Water Resource Engineer III · Civil Engineering · October 11, 2022
Excellent. The program streamlines our processes greatly in the drainage/flood study world allowing us to meet deadlines and budgets better than ever.
Pros: The program combines CAD, GIS, and HEC-RAS all into one easy interface.
Cons: Program bugs. The program is constantly being updated to better the user's capability but with each update there are sometime little bugs. When these bugs are noticed though, customer service usually has a solution that same day.
Hunter T. · Assistant Project Manager · Civil Engineering · October 10, 2022
Very nice experience. I have contacted the technical support many times for multiple projects and they were super knowledgeable and helpful.
Pros: It has more functionalities over HECRAS (the freeware for hydraulics) and cutting cross sections is a breeze
Cons: I don't find anything to dislike in GeoHECRAS
Anonymous User · Structural Engineer · Civil Engineering · September 23, 2022
I like the software and how it makes my job easier. The customer service is fantastic. The technician team is very friendly and helpful.
Pros: I used to work with old version Hecras which quite time consuming and limited visual representation. Geohecras has improved all the above aspects.
Cons: I don't have any issues so far with the software. It has served what it is intended to. Some minor difficulties can be experienced with new users but they can be addressed with the technician assistant.
Calvin D. · Project Manager · Civil Engineering · September 21, 2022
Pros: One of the best features is that GIS is already integrated in the software. This saves time from bringing in GIS data from scratch. It has a digital terrain cross section feature that allows you to review model without any hassle. Floodway and floodplain mapping is relatively easy compared to similar software.
Cons: This software need you to have basic understanding of HECRAS modelling. You have to have prior knowledge in order to learn. You can not just pick up and learn it. Company has less training resources available for users
Aditya M. · Civil Designer · Civil Engineering · September 15, 2022
Overall, the software performs well to generate flood extents and other 1D 2D hydraulic simulation for the projects I have worked on.
Pros: GeoHECRAS is more user friendly and enable users to add in more base layers including CAD files, Terrain files etc. Moreover, there are online data library available to setup the model. The interactive interface is very much useful in every step from model generation to preparing the final results. There are different analysis methods built-in with the software and helps to generate more accurate simulation and design analysis.
Cons: Since, it is more interactive with AutoCAD and other data files. It takes more time to load and to run the simulation but still performance well.
Keyur P. · Junior Development Engineer · Civil Engineering · September 9, 2022
Pros: This software allows the use of many different file types in one application which allows detailed models to be constructed quickly.
Cons: I wish you could click and pan around in the map window when you have an editing window open. Maybe you can in the latest version . . .
Jesse R. · Project Manager · Civil Engineering · September 6, 2022
Pros: I like how I can import directly from AutoCAD
Cons: Nothing. GeoHECRAS does not have anything I dislike
Carter G. · Project Engineer · Civil Engineering · August 15, 2022
We originally thought we would purchase this software for more complex floodplain projects, but we will be utilizing it on all projects going forward due to its ease of use and added benefits.
Pros: In general GeoHECRAS appears to be a lot more user friendly than HEC-RAS. Everything is geolocated, you can overlay satellite imagery, it is much easier to visualize the analysis and results, and you can import and export files much easier.
Cons: There is a lot to learn with this software, but the support team has been very helpful along the way.

GeoHEC-RAS has all the reliability and advantages of the HEC-RAS program, with several crucial extra features. These extras features have saved time and money for our company and clients on countless projects. The savings and convenience caused us to switch and the friendly, responsive tech service has kept us as loyal GeoHECRAS customers.
Pros: GeoHECRAS combines an easy-to-use HEC-RAS interface with the ability to use field survey data and use and process LIDAR. I have found the tech service to be fast, friendly, and responsive. If you have any issues or want to see a new feature, just let them know. I have been using GeoHECRAS regularly for over seven years. I have seen several of my requested features and fixes incorporated into the program. Switching from HEC-RAS to GeoHECRAS is easy and intuitive, since it the workflows are similar and the hydraulic engine is the same. GeoHECRAS models can be easily exported to HEC-RAS format when necessary (or when the client requires it).
Cons: I have used GeoHECRAS regularly for over 7 years and have run into a few problems here and there. Sometimes the problem was with the program, sometimes with my settings or data. Either way, tech service takes care of it quickly, usually within a few hours. When using GeoHECRAS, I generally find that the most annoying things are native to the HEC-RAS engine rather than the GeoHECRAS interface.
