My overall experience with Buildertrend has been positive. It’s a powerful all-in-one construction management platform that improves organization, communication, and project tracking. While there’s a learning curve and cost considerations, it greatly enhances efficiency and workflow once implemented.
Pros: What I liked most about Buildertrend is how it centralizes project management. It makes scheduling, communication, budgeting, and document sharing easy in one platform, helping construction projects stay organized and on track.
Cons: One downside of Buildertrend is that it can feel complex for new users, with a learning curve during setup. It can also be costly for smaller teams, especially when adding advanced features.

Buildertrend markets themselves as a partner for construction growth, but my experience as a small business owner has been the opposite. Despite paying for six months of service while having zero active projects, they refused to exercise the 'sole discretion' suspension clause (Section 4.6) in their own contract to provide temporary relief during a cash flow crisis. I have paid thousands for a service I never used operationally, and their legal department’s only response was to enforce the remainder of the annual debt. They prioritize rigid payment installments over the actual success or survival of the companies they serve.

Overall, my experience with Buildertrend has been very positive. It’s a comprehensive platform that keeps construction projects organized, from scheduling and budgeting to communication with clients and teams. While it takes a little time to get fully comfortable with all the features, once you do, it significantly improves efficiency and project visibility. For anyone managing construction projects, it’s a powerful and reliable tool.
Pros: What I like most about Buildertrend is how all-in-one the platform is for construction project management. It streamlines scheduling, budgeting, and communication between teams and clients, which saves a lot of time. I also appreciate the mobile app—it makes it easy to update projects, track progress, and share documents on the go. Overall, it keeps everything organized and accessible in one place.
Cons: The main drawback of Buildertrend is that it can be overwhelming at first due to the sheer number of features and options.

Our company used us for several months and got great feedback from most of our clients about its reporting features and it made us more organized in how we managed projects.
Pros: I liked the customer view of the daily report being a single page report about their project. It was very clean and the automatic emails sending out the report was a nice feature!
Cons: Its scheduling function works but can be very simple. When working on larger commercial projects it won’t allow for the complexity needed.

Overall does what we need for it, but lack of integrations means we are constantly open to opportunities to consolidate tech stack
Pros: Communication with subcontractors and field installation crews. Also time keeping on multiple job sites
Cons: Lack of integrations with other tools. It is very powerful however not being able to link a job page to an ERP or other CRM is a huge opportunity lost

Its a very streamlined, easy to use management software. The daily logs, purchase orders / change orders and client portal are all very useful.
Pros: BuilderTrend is continually updating and improving. The changes are easily understood the formatting is very clear.
Cons: As with everything these days, the costs do increase from time to time. I also wish the scheduling was improved slightly.

Overall Buildertrend is indispensable to our business. The mobile app is easy to use for our field crew and the portal is crucial to managing and tracking project costs
Pros: Buildertrend does a great job with organizing the portal to mirror a construction project from lead to completion. The sales tab has everything you need to effectively manage leads with sections for notes, schedule follow ups and log conversations. Other than what you would expect in the project management tab (schedule, to-dos), what we find most helpful are the daily logs and client updates. Client updates feature is very popular with our clients and the AI feature to pull photos and generate a summary for the client is gold. The cost inbox is another favorite feature of ours. It is one big container for all receipts where they can, one by one, be assigned to the correct job.
Cons: The reporting section is improving but still needs more robust and reliable reporting. Sometimes Buildertrend’s eagerness for constant improvement makes the portal more convoluted and makes some features redundant. For example, there is the ToDos feature and the Tasks feature. Also the cost inbox and the ability to drag or upload a receipt in the bills section is too much. I also would like to see a more robust, customizable and visually appealing Builder Dashboard as there currently isn’t one, really. The cost (about $800/ month) is hard to justify sometimes

Pros: Buildertrend effectively centralizes project management, scheduling, and communication. The tool helps me keep field teams, office staff, and clients aligned throughout the entire project.
Cons: At first, the range of features can feel overwhelming. Some functionalities overlap and require time to configure in order to fit internal processes.
Mark B. · VP of Sales and Estimating · Construction · January 25, 2026
Buildertrend is easy to use. We can track our projects on there efficiently. The layout is organized.

Pros: Fairly decent software and there are a lot of features, but takes a lot of time to learn how to use it
Cons: terrible customer service and technology advances are not top priority. They also make it incredibly difficult to retrieve your information and export it out if you cancel.
Rob T. · Owner · Construction · December 4, 2025
it was ok, and would be great for a low volume company with cookie cutter house builds. This will not work for huge volumes and customizations
Pros: was excited to use a program that worked and made what we did easier to handle our big load of projects
Cons: Instead of ease of use and making the load lighter we struggled figuring out where everything was, having to rearrange and re enter what we had already put in. We were told it can be used for custom builds when actually it didnt work for that
Shauna H. · Accounts Payable · Construction · November 5, 2025
We had more control over timelines and budgets. Less miscommunication, less waiting on everyone else our team just gets more done with fewer of the headaches.
Pros: The scheduling and client communication tools are my go-to. I’m able to manage subs, monitor progress and update homeowners in real time with live changes to the schedule all from the same platform.
Cons: There were a few teething pains early on, particularly importing our old projects. Also, not all subcontractors were fast to transition to the app.

Pros: Buildertrend made it extremely simple to make payments of large sums to my contractor. It was easy to manage the payments item by item.
Cons: Buildertrend slowed down the payment a little bit for the contractor, as I had to verify small payments that went into my bank. To be honest, this put me at ease, but on their end I realize it was a little slow.

I've been using Buildertrend now for several years and I really like it. I can't imaging going back to the way we used to operate. This software keeps us organized and helps our customers stay in the loop during their project. It's a wonderful software and great support staff. Highly recommend!
Pros: One of the things I like most about Buildertrend is the support they give. If I ever have a question or are unsure of something, I can easily use the chat feature or call the support line and they help walk me through it and figure out a solution to my problem. They're fantastic!
Cons: One thing I don't like is that once a customer has activated their account, we as the builder can no longer update the customer contact info. Sometimes we're dealing with older people or ones who aren't super computer literate and it takes me a long time or multiple emails to describe how to add a phone number or email address to their account vs me just being able to go in and adjust in in 10 seconds. I wish they would change that!
Sarah M. · Office assistant · Construction · June 30, 2025
Pros: Its everything together in one software, the new Job Costing Budget tab is very accurate and we can control the entire job budget from there. Also it allows to do changes to the estimate after is done.
Cons: It can be a bit confusing using it for the first time. The tab "Selections" for the homeowner choose options is not very user friendly.

I’ve been tracking progress and sending updates through this. Sometimes I also log deliveries or check the timeline when things are moving fast.
Pros: It’s great that I don’t have to send a million photos. Everyone can check where things are at. Clients like it too, they don’t always get construction stuff but the pictures help.
Cons: Took me a while to get the calendar and schedule side working. I kept messing up dependencies between tasks, things were shifting weird.
Mark W. · Owner · Construction · May 25, 2025
Pros: The mobile app is often cited as a strength, allowing field workers, subcontractors, and project managers to update tasks, add photos, and communicate on the go.
Cons: Some find the UI to be cluttered or unintuitive, especially when switching between desktop and mobile.
Samantha M. · Project Manager · Construction · May 13, 2025
It has made our process more professional, been the deciding factor in closing some of our sales and helped us track jobs more efficienly.
Pros: proposals, job costing, scheduling. Excellent tool to communicate with clients and track jobs. We have sold jobs because we had BT!
Cons: There is so much functionality I don't use it to it's fullest and the "college" only occurs in one place that is far from our location in Florida.
Todd H. · Owner · Construction · May 6, 2025
Overall the product sucks but the support is great. Also way too expensive.
Pros: It has a lot of great features, and support is excellent.
Cons: The product user experience is absolutely awful. It's a hard product to learn how to use, and there is like 10x more clicking that there needs to be. Very frustrating to use on either desktop or mobile.
Ryan B. · Co-Owner · Construction · April 14, 2025
Great software if you are a home builder, not so much for larger commercial and land development.
Pros: Very easy to use, it is usefriendly. You can manage the schedule from the app and all the subs get notified right away.
Cons: I like it, but my sub contractor did not like it because of the consistent notices on their phone.
Karic R. · Project manager · Construction · April 14, 2025
Mediocre experience, the customer service was great however they could be better with pricing and initial trial period.
Pros: I liked the idea of having a client portal that i could setup for clients to use.
Cons: The bulky nature of the system, it looks initially very easy to cross contaminate information through to areas you don't want information stored. They also don't give you any time to learn the system before you have to pay the subscription, i would have been more likely to sign up longer if they gave me time to learn it properly.

The BT people are great. The trainers are great. But the product was lacking for us.
Pros: It may be a good program for a builder in USA
Cons: It does not seem to fit the electrical field very well. Also, they assured us that their platform could handle Canadian tax. If you are from Canada, I suggest you ask some hard questions before you onboard. After training for several months, we finally realized that we were not going to be happy with BT. The one and biggest complaint was that they had a very clunky way of handling Canadian tax. They did not seem to be interested in correcting it.

Since working with Buildertrend, I have learned many things. It is easy to understand and always had access to assistance.
Pros: easy to understand. great tutorials. customer service access.
Cons: I do not have anything to comment because I do not have anything I liked least.
Bertha C. · Office Manager · Construction · March 31, 2025
Could have been better. Would work for someone with a different business model.
Pros: Job organization. Able to customize for your needs if kept simple.
Cons: Bad customer help. Have to wait awhile for responses.
Summer G. · Office Employee · Construction · March 31, 2025
Very positive. It works well for our company.
Pros: It keeps all our job info in one place. Very user friendly. They have an academy which is super helpful for training new staff.
Cons: They update the features a lot and the newer versions aren't always better.
