My overall review of Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is a positive one. Since it has upgraded to a cloud-based platform it has gotten more user friendly.
Pros: I use this product primarily for Accounts Payable. Setting up vendors and entering invoices is very easy and the system design is easy to use. I also like how there is a new Payment Assistant feature that Blackbaud has partnered with Repay, and we have more options to pay our vendors, such as ACH or debit card, in addition to checks. Creating and running reports are also pretty easy. I also like how you can link to Aatrix for 1099 printing. Blackbaud University is also a very helpful tool.
Cons: Setting up the print options for AP checks was a lot of trial and error. Even though Blackbaud has their own forms you can order from, I found I still had issues with the check printing alignment. It is also hard to see where you would get support (live person or chat) if you need it.

Our company really likes Blackbaud. We have used it as our primary financial management tool for over 12 years. It is a security program with many different layers of protections. Provide all financial reporting necessary for well management. Another plus is the price. It is very affordable compared to others.
Pros: Transition from an old database system to a new and easy all-in-one-place model system. It is a fantastic program for not-for-profit church management and schools.

Cons: Before completing the transition from the old to the new model, it should be better tested before the complete rollout. Need better customer service, especially at the chat.

We have been using Financial Edge and now FE NXT for years. We find that it has a user-friendly environment.
Pros: We really like the drill down features in general ledger account details. We also like the Excel Add in functions for importing from spreadsheets and other software systems.
Cons: The lack of consistent queries available in NXT has been a challenge.

Pros: This tool is great for our non profit, it allows us to pay invoices, set up vendors, store any files for the business that we received (W9's, contracts, etc.) Helps extremely well with sending out 1099's, setting up new projects, vendors and having the ability to cut in house checks and sending out checks (physical or electronic draft)
Cons: Sometimes the general ledgers can be off accounting wise, not by much though.

Pros: Système de gestion de l'apprentissage et d'instruction, formation des leaders sur le marché . Il aide aussi les apprenants dans les collèges et universités.
Cons: Je ne trouve pas d'inconvénients, l'utilisateur va témoigner de son utilité
Adjoh Lucie D. · Assistante commerciale · Building Materials · October 16, 2023
Pros: FE NXT is a step up from its predecessors. Easier to use, better integration.
Cons: some of the reporting functionality is not as easy to customize as we'd like

Our overall experience has been great. Tech support and our implementation team were fantastic to help us get everything in place and have been a great resource as we have continued to learn the program. Having a solution that is not installed on the network , but on the cloud has given us more flexibility. And information is shown in a more user friendly display to easily see data all in one place.
Pros: Blackbaud being a Non-Profit Financial accounting system works well for us in the non-profit/ government sector as a library. They truly understand the needs non-profits have and work to create solutions for those problems and needs. Blackbaud is easy to use, and easy to train new employees with. The training Blackbaud provides can not compare to many other products. There are 20+ classes that can be taken with an online instructor or through E-learning . This training has helped us implement this software across multiple locations and make sure our staff was prepared for their duties within Blackbaud.
Cons: As a government/non-profit agency we are required to use Purchase orders. Blackbaud's purchase order system is not as user friendly as the rest of the software. They are working to move the purchase order system to the WebView and we have been told it will make several changes to make the PO portion easier to use. We also need to be able to multi level approvals on an invoice and the solution Blackbaud was able to provide until they get everything in WebView didn't work for our organization, as we are required to have a pre-audit statement on all purchase orders and invoices that are paid

Pros: Easier to use than other BB products, because of ease with refunding purchases and with tracking deposits.
Cons: Irregular, not-reliable customer service.
Elizabeth S. · Director of Admissions · Education Management · June 7, 2023
Pros: This is the most advanced tool for accounting and documentation of all financial transaction an organization should have. Easy to used
Cons: Has limited features this make it a bit second option for multipurpose organization
Edifon F. · Data analyst · Food & Beverages · February 21, 2023
We were not actually able to use the software. The implementation specialist was changed 3 times with the good workers being the ones moved off the development. The 4 month scheduled process turned into a 14 month with no responsibility being claimed by BB for the delays.
Pros: The look of the web-based interface is really good and flows well. The reporting is highly customizable and sharable through email or dashboards.
Cons: The receivable module is still not available in the browser view nor are the EFT payments in Canada. So you have to do this in database view which is old, cumbersome, and confusing.
Colin F. · Business Administrator · Non-Profit Organization Management · July 22, 2022
Pros: building reports is easy. its a great accounting package overall. the go to for non-profits of size.
Cons: its a great accounting package overall. my one complaint is the way accounts are made, in three parts, account number, fund, department. these three parts all make up an account number. for example 7000-02-100. 7000 is the traditional account, 02 is the fund, and 100 is the department. so if you make an account for all funds and departments the list of accounts is HUGE!
Joseph G. · Accounting Manager · Accounting · June 28, 2022
We moved from QuickBooks to BlackBaud because we needed a fund accounting program and it has performed well for our organization. Our department heads now have access to the site and can see their financials more than just once a month which is game changing for financial decisions.
Pros: The cost of this software verses the others in the market is very affordable. The implementation went very smooth and it has been working very well. Support is usually really quick and helpful to get problems solved.
Cons: The reporting functions are time consuming to set up but most reports can be built to suit your needs and work great after the initial build.
Calyn B. · Accountant · Government Administration · June 7, 2022
Our experience with FENxt has really been terrible. It is soooo slow. Features we were promised at implementation do not work or have never been rolled out (where is A/R??). It does not sync with our bill pay system (we were told it would!) so bills have to be manually entered into two systems. It takes a very long time for support and usually the ineffective solution is that we should clear our cookies or history, or we are sent something to read. One of our databases has had problems from the start. Every excel report has to be reformatted to be useful.
Pros: It is good to have project tracking capabilities and to have the ability to work from home if needed.
Cons: The sales team will give you a lot of promises that are not reality. The biggest overall problems are how slow the system is, and features we were promised that never happened.

Overall this is a great product. We are very pleased with Blackbaud and do not plan on changing vendors any time soon.
Pros: This software is perfect for our organization. It continues to implement updated features to make our jobs easier.
Cons: The expense tracking sometimes appears to be offline and causes our staff a good amount of time to enter their expenses.
Joanie B. · HR Director · Non-Profit Organization Management · May 11, 2022
Blackbaud has two ways of interfacing with the software. One can use a database interface or NXT. In some cases, NXT is easy to use. In other cases, the database option is more efficient. I find myself having to use both. Blackbaud has a steep learning curve. Parameters that control the software are buried in a sea of screens and options. It is often a needle in a haystack search. Blackbaud documentation is exhaustive but hard to find answers. User manuals may run on for hundreds of pages without answering the question.
Pros: The report writer allows financial statement to be developed using column and row specifications that are user defined. The row specs are based on organizing the chart of accounts. The columns are user defined and are adequate.
Cons: Blackbaud is not intuitive or user friendly. Trying to control the software is very cumbersome. Also the report writer in Financial Edge is less flexible than other software products I have used. Columns are defined as to time periods. But if one wants to run the same financial statement from past time periods, these specs must be re-written. The reporting periods should be a relative definition and should refer to a fiscal period selection at run time.

Pros: Integration was relatively easy, but we also had a team that coordinated this effort.
Cons: Really - we have no issues with the sotware.

Has been positive but still learning the system since "go-live" migration about 7 months ago.
Pros: Migration from previous version was seamless along with BB team to assist where needed. Ability to "copy previous" is very helpful. Helpful training opportunities via on-demand or BB U taught courses. BB support is usually always quick to reply & direct when needed.
Cons: Understanding parameters that need to be set (i.e. post, etc.) can be confusing. BB support does not seem to have access to your org file when issues arise...that was a bit shocking. I would think behind the scenes that would be able to access & walk through critical problems that need to be addressed. I realize it may be a data security issue but having to add a BB staff as user seems akward.

Pros: Overall Financial Edge NXT is easy to use. I mostly use it to query transactions. It is easy to pull the data that I need.
Cons: Setting up queries is not intuitive. However, once you have set it up you can use the same one over and over again. I wish the output downloaded to a different version of Excel.
Ashley N. · Senior Manager, FP&A · Non-Profit Organization Management · June 29, 2021
Be certain of what you need and what is a reasonable price to pay for your organization... so that you don't get locked into a long contract that becomes a drain on your fundraising efforts instead of supporting your efforts.
Pros: It probably has every feature and more than you'll ever need or want. It's especially good for very large organizations that have large budgets and lots of donors to track.
Cons: My organization is small... we don't need all of the bells and whistles that come with this software and it is way to expensive for the portions that we do use. This really was a ferrari... when a ford would have been more than capable... we opted for a better suited software for our size organization and much more budget friendly for our needs.
Bill G. · Executive Director · Non-Profit Organization Management · March 30, 2021
The worst part is implementation. We had to make decisions about setup that cannot be changed before we fully understood how we wanted to use the software. They should have allowed us to use our own data in a "sandbox" model to learn how things work.
Pros: I love the fact that you can create journal entries and invoices and include that information in reports before posting them. This helps to avoid mistakes. The web view is user friendly and fairly intuitive.
Cons: The database view is archaic and not user friendly. Many functions have not yet been converted to the web view and must be done in the database view.
Kenton S. · Director of Operations · Religious Institutions · February 25, 2021
We have been able to run a very busy finance office with only 1.5 employees for several years now. We also have been able to do much more efficient and flexible reporting to business units (detail) and to board management (summary).
Pros: The NXT online service is very easy to use and very flexible to our needs for reporting. The support is good, most reps are very responsive and I love Blackbaud University.
Cons: It's really expensive. And requests for customization are hard to get through. But it's overall so easy to use that we can live with the small tweaks for now.
Victoria W. · Director of Finance · Non-Profit Organization Management · October 30, 2020
I could not recommend it for any organization under $500MM in revenue. This is for Big companies with Big staffs. No need to reach for this unless you have the size and infrastructure to support this solution.
Pros: The software clearly has a lot of capabilities. If you are a large organization with lots of time and money to burn, you can get some value out of this.
Cons: The program is very difficult to use. I was leading a team that took over the accounting function from another organization. This was their software. The company had not seen a balance sheet they had confidence in for many years. Getting information out in a form and format that they could use was difficult to impossible. I was told they spent $250k getting the program up and running in implementation costs. This was a terrible option for a company with just 2 people in the accounting department. I'm sure it may be good for a MUCH larger organization, but a bad choice here.
STUART P. · Owner · Non-Profit Organization Management · August 28, 2020
Benefitted from ease of use and general aesthetic appeal.
Pros: Used for the first time this past year in the recommendation process for students signing up for classes. It was easy to recommend multiple classes and students would be able to choose when the registered. It integrated well with the structures we already were using, but allowed it to be a one-step process, rather than multiple. It's also an aesthetically pleasing software, which is a nice change.
Cons: I don't have any real complaints. It was very easy to use, with little guidance needed. However, I can't speak to what it was like to set up the structures, or what it was like to use from the student end.

Pros: Easy to use Wide range of training available Excellent customer support
Cons: Expensive Exporting reports and spreadsheets is cumbersome
Tina P. · Controller · Education Management · February 4, 2020
We are able to better project our budget and plan for the future.
Pros: It is user-friendly, but the training options and customer support are excellent.
Cons: Data must be consistent and clean, or you may find reports a bit skewed.
