Overall, I would still recommend Shepherd to hospitals that are looking to find the best veterinary PIMS, it's by far the best software I've ever used in the 13 years I've been doing this.
Pros: Easy to use, great PIMS, user-friendly, inventory tracking is amazing, the best veterinary software as it's made for vets by vets
Cons: The updates have gotten better, but there are still issues with the entire system going down within 24 hours after updates have been done, which messes with our daily flow, schedule, charges, and general communication. I will say, they are actively working to resolve this

Very pleased we switched, it makes life easier from an administrative perspective and is a much more cost effective solution than our prior software.
Pros: Ease of use - reporting is super easy, very straightforward, and customizable. Exports simply to CSV rather than clunky PDFs or other “canned” reports. Switched from Server-based (Impromed) to cloud-based and it is now a much simpler infrastructure. Customer support is modern, and very responsive.
Cons: It took a bit of time to understand some of the workflow but after a bit of cruising around the system it all made sense.

Great software and streamlined. Not clunky like a lot of the other older ones out there. Love the customer service!
Pros: The platform is user friendly. Users are able to get help very easily either by searching for an answer or directly messaging a team member.
Cons: The texting feature is not super user friendly. It does not auto create spay or neuter certificates.

I truly love Shepherd, they continue to grow and improve, making my days easier. As with anything, there are always places to improve and Shepherd listens and constantly strives to hwlp create a better work balance. They allow me to work smarter, not harder!!!
Pros: I love the look of Shepherd, they also have great customer support. I have been with them for 2 years and love how they are continuing to grow. The constant improvements and integrations are great.
Cons: Inventory Management is difficult but hopefully will improve soon. Providing more specific and detailed information on how to efficiently use Shepherd would be beneficial, ie how to videos.

Overall we've had an amazing experience with Shepherd. Our practice has been able to utilize all the features to make us more efficient. We've seen a lot of updates that have also improved our overall experience.
Pros: We love how streamlined Shepherd is. Everything is all in one place for medical records, no need to go searching for what you are looking for.
Cons: When sending text messages, right now you have to type the name of the patient into the message, instead of just being able to choose the patient name.

Overall i really like this software. It is mostly intuitive and improving all the time. I reslly appreciate how adaptable it is.
Pros: I appreciate how quickly i can get in touch with the support staff. They are always able to answer my questions and are very receptive to feedback in suggested improvements.
Cons: It took a little while to fully understand how to work with it in our established flow. The tutorials are useful, but a full orientation with someone to go through using it in our situation would have been more helpful.

Pros: The user interface and features such as tasks, tagging employees, and templates. I also love the Shepherd Pay.
Cons: Some capabilities are not maximized for equine mobile practice - I would really love to have access the schedule calendar more easily in a remote setting. An app similar to google calendar that is accessible without internet but syncs throughout the day would be ideal.

Pros: Shepherd is very intuitive and easy to use. It’s user friendly and integrates with most of the vendors I’d want it to (Vetsnap, Blue Rabbit, Zoetis Reference Lab, Kumba). It is cloud based which is imperative for me as a mobile practice. Customer support is generally pretty fast and helpful.
Cons: It’s a little pricier than some of the other softwares I looked into. There have also recently been a few fairly major outages where the system has been unusable during business hours.

Simple, we love it! Everyone in the hospital loves Shepherd. We've saved money and time and we feel more confident with Shepherd than any other solution any of our team has used. We highly recommend it!

Cons: You have to pay attention to set up. Shepherd is very robust and you need to "think about" how you want it to operate and function. If you do that, you're in good shape. If you make assumptions during set-up and you don't follow their instructions and advice, you can get yourself into trouble. ASK QUESTIONS and pay attention.

Pros: I like that it has an easy-to-use, attractive interface. Using Shepherd is intuitive and I can easily navigate.
Cons: I am disappointed that AI and transcription services, as well as text messages are at an additional fee.

Excellent - nothing but improvements and upgrades and lots of visual learning and customer service by far has been the best.
Pros: Value for Money, Customer Support, Patient and Client Management, Ease of Use the customer service is amazing and is always helpful and patient.
Cons: The only thing that we have had issues with is viewing past visits with ease. It has been a learning curve as well with past open invoices.

Very good, easy to use, for appointment, clients. Email and texting work easily and you can customize what is sent. Paylinks also an option to send to clients making that easy as well
Pros: It's one of the most intuitive software platforms I have seen/used. (I've worked relief so tried many). Its very competitively priced for a good product. Customer support has been great as I'm a startup and was entering everything from scratch. Also there is an AI help that is pretty good and available any time.
Cons: Slight learning curve, but that's every platform. Otherwise I haven't had any issues and they have been very helpful.

awesome, love the program for what we do in urgent care. easy to follow and I could write a SOAP within 5 minutes of using the program. Results sync easily and from a medical standpoint, it is a winner!
Pros: It is very easy to use, intuitive, easy to follow and works great to have a complete records in quick amount of tim, they are very receptive to feedback and suggestions
Cons: the whiteboard is not helpful but I know they are working on this - they are also working on going from a tab based system to having the SOAP be in a single scrolling list which will be great!!

I use Shepherd mainly for bookkeeping purposes so I'm only familiar with reporting not the everyday use in the hospital setting.
Pros: Ease to learn and navigate to reports, as I use the software for reporting to do daily bookkeeping tasks.
Cons: Slow to resolve an important issue for reporting net totals for returned products on the Sales Tax report

Overall we have enjoyed using Shepherd! We are a start up and I feel it was a good choice for us thus far.
Pros: Customer support is great! It has a nice flow through the SOAPS. Appointments are easy to schedule and it is of good value for the money.
Cons: We have found clients have trouble signing into the patient portal. I believe an app they can download and auto sign in would be helpful. Still having some issues with the transcription service--sometimes it won't fill in (just spin) and it always records the weight in kg even if the settings are set for lb.

I personally used DVMax for 21 year and was a little scared to change over to a new system and but I now love it!!!
Pros: easy to learn and easy to use. The ability to jump from owners account to patient's page. Scheduling no problem
Cons: Times when the system is down, and no being able to speak to a live person. Don't care for Sheppy AI

Super easy, intuitive and no drama! It’s nice to give discharges without the whole SOAP to clients and easily give handouts/documents in one place.
Pros: It’s pretty, intuitive and I don’t need to struggle to figure something out. It’s basic but not bare bones, which is exactly what I need for my specialty practice. I LOVE having word processing features and drag/drop photos or documents just makes sense. I’ve used a lot of different medical records systems and know what I need and don’t want or need.
Cons: Wish that you didn’t have to open a whole soap when seeing back for certain things/procedures when they aren’t getting a full exam again.

Shepherd has many great features, and I love that it's constantly adding new ones and implementing feedback. Shepherd customer support is extremely friendly and helpful, through the chat or via email, someone is always available when needed!
Pros: Ease of use with innovative user friendly features and incredibly nice and helpful customer support agents and articles. It is also a GREAT value for our money! Scheduling features are constantly being updated for better management, which we really appreciate - I also love that customers have access to their profiles through Pet Portal to request medications, see records, and book appointments!
Cons: Having to create separate products for inventory items, wish an option would be available to be set up on its own. Although the Pet Portal is a huge favorite, having it available in an app would be a great addition. Also, Shepherd pay customer support, is not as helpful and friendly.

Pros: Shepherd is a great cloud based software! We love how easy it is to use from patient management to appointment scheduling, even for new staff. Customer support are great at answering our questions and helping us when needed. We love that we can txt clients right in Shepherd.
Cons: We don't love that messaging isn't free anymore but we are still using it because it makes our clinic much more efficient.

So far positive. We didn't like the interruptions of course, but we learned how to manage them effectively. Customer service is AWESOME, just wish we could also call.
Pros: The SOAPS are easy to use and so is scheduling. Especially with the new reschedule ipdate! We love the texting - bummer that it costs now but not a deal breaker. Value for Money
Cons: Patient Charts (not the SOAPS, they are good). In our legacy PIMS we had a "line item history we could print for quick access, but in the INVOICE LINE ITEMS tab on Shepherd - you cant print them.

It has been a good experience and a huge learning curve changing to a new software. I do like that it talks with our Cubex and Idexx equipment.
Pros: Shepherd is a good value for the money spent with 7 DVM's and not having to pay for the extra staff usage. The CCS team really likes the ease of scheduling appointments for our clients.
Cons: Lately they seem to issues when they do software updates with the software have glitches. The team is quick to help correct the issues, but this can be frustrating for the team.

We previously had Intravet as our PIMS and Shepherd is so much more user friendly. Our practice seems to run a lot smoother now that we have Shepherd. It is very difficult whenever the system goes down though. We are a walk in practice that seems more than 100 patients per day. When the system goes down for longer than about 10 minutes we really struggle running.
Pros: I really like that Shepherd is cloud based, it makes it to where we can work from anywhere including invoicing during our large animal farm calls. It is also very user friendly for the majority of things.
Cons: There are not automate statement fees. The Patient names show up above the client names when searching for client/patient When the system goes down...

Shepherd has been great! We are a smaller clinic switching over from a very old system, so all the extras from Shepherd are amazing! The automatic appointment reminders to scheduling appointments as easy as a 1,2,3 is great! Having access to speak with someone at the touch of a button when we have a question about the system is great as well! We would highly recommend Shepherd to any facility that is looking to make a switch.
Pros: I love that it is very easy to find your way around! Coming from an older system to this one was a piece of cake, we were able to make the adjustment without any issues.
Cons: That messaging is now being charged for. We had switched to the system when messaging was free, and now we are having to add credits for messages sent.

Pros: Their customer service is second to none! They are always upgrading the software and making it better. I am glad we switched PIMS.
Cons: I wish we could edit more than one line item at a time. We would like an edit screen that brings up all of the items that are waiting to be added to the plan. Hopefully that upgrade is coming soon.

I love it, and I look forward to future updates that only make this great platform even better. I learn a lot from the video updates.
Pros: Shepherd has allowed our clinic to become truly paperless (after over 10 years of trying!) because it has all the forms integrated within the software. It also integrates SMS texting and allows the comm's to be easily inserted into the patient file. The UI is extremely user friendly. In fact, many of the functions the staff could not "find" were literally found by hovering over items! I love how customizable it can be: each DVM can create their own exam template, each user can create their own shortcuts. Services can auto populate home instructions. I especially appreciate the ability for each user to provide feed back and suggested new features- and even more impressive: the Shepherd Team's responsiveness to those suggestions. Thank you for Dark Mode!
Cons: Inability to change the description of a service. Sometimes it would be helpful to be able to slightly edit the item. For example "Growth Removal <2cm" to "Growth Removal <2cm: Sternum" to differentiate from the 2nd item "Growth Removal <2cm: Right Hip" to best define estimates, communicate with client and the next day's team members. Shepherd AI functionality: rather slow and still needs refinement
