Overall, our experience with SketchUp has been very positive. It has become a really useful tool within our business for creating visual plans and presenting ideas in a much more engaging way. In the events and audio visual world, being able to show clients a visual representation of their event setup makes a huge difference, and SketchUp helps us do exactly that. It has helped us communicate ideas more clearly, improve planning, and bring events to life before build day.

Pros: SketchUp is a really effective tool for helping us visualise event spaces and bring ideas to life for clients. As an audio visual company, it allows us to map out layouts, staging, screens, lighting and room setups in a clear and professional way. It is easy to use, quick to build with, and helps both our team and our clients better understand the final look and feel of an event before it happens.
Cons: At times, some of the more detailed elements can take a bit of time to perfect, especially when working on more complex designs. There can also be a slight learning curve when getting used to certain tools and features. That said, once you are familiar with the platform, it becomes a very valuable part of the workflow.

The software has been easy for new landscape designers in the office to quickly learn the software requiring very little training. Has been a great tool to allow early visualization of a project.
Pros: Our Landscape Architects use it for presenting simple project concepts to our clients for initial buy in and approval to move forward with the next stage of design.
Cons: Rendering quality can be subpar and the software is limited when performing modeling functions. Overall the software still kicks out the drawing that works to get the job!

SketchUp is so easy to use that once you’ve tried it, it will be hard to move onto other programs. It’s intuitive, it has a very open library where you can find almost any plugin to do almost anything you need.
Pros: There is no other software as intuitive as SketchUp. Modeling in its interface feels just right, and it’s really ease to generate simple or very complex models and to produce great information with it. I just love it.
Cons: Although it has is tools for layer management, they are not as easy to use as in AutoCAD, Photoshop or almost any other graphic software. They could really improve on this to make it the best tool ever.

I have used SketchUp in many projects for past companies - primarily early concept design, such as taking ideas and business proposals and giving it a hint of real life to be able to show stakeholders what the finished project could look like.
Pros: The fact there is a free version, which although limited compared with the paid version, it is a very powerful tool for early concept design for architecture or building development that can turn ideas into real.
Cons: At core SketchUp is a very simple CAD software - it is difficult to get real precision from SketchUp, and at times the tools feel more clunky to use than dedicated CAD software.

I am a interior designer. And any interior designer today would know the value and importance of sketchup in their worklife. 3d modelling is one of the most crucial part in interior designing without it its very hard to imagine our design in real life. Thats when sketchup comes as a saviour. Me and my team we use this software in regular basis for client presentation, to get 3d renders and also to get 2d drawings for execution in the site. Learning this software has been our greatest asset and one of the most useful skills.
Pros: 1. It is a very efficient tool that me and my team use for 3d modelling in our interior design firm. 2. 3d Models from sketchup can be imported into Autocad to create 2d drawings such as elevation, saving our lot of time. 3. The 3d warehouse has extensive variety of items, that can be downloaded and further customised. 4. Plugins available make it very interesting, fun and increases efficiency while also providing a shortcut method to work. 5. The plugin compatibility with rendering softwares like Vray and Enscape makes it very easy to do live updates and see the test render before producing final.
Cons: 1. It usually lags or slow downs while modelling when the file gets heavy. 2. Sudden crashing of the file while doing complex modelling. 3. It requires internet connection while I opt to do some changes in the model.

Overall, SketchUp has been a very positive experience for me. It’s a reliable tool that helps me turn ideas into quick 3D visuals, which makes collaboration and presentations easier. It’s not perfect, but for the price and ease of use, it’s definitely worth having.
Pros: What I like most about SketchUp is how simple and user-friendly it is. It’s great for quickly creating 3D models and visualizing ideas without a steep learning curve. The drawing tools are intuitive, and it’s very handy for early design stages.
Cons: The rendering quality isn’t the best unless you use plugins, and for more detailed or complex projects, it sometimes feels limited compared to other software.
Ashish A. · Field Engineer · Civil Engineering · August 23, 2025
The overall experience is fantastic. This is the software I started my journey in 3d modelling and it has been handy ever since. I can easily add and use plugins for various use. Also, the software update is getting better every time.
Pros: I use SketchUp for 3d Modelling. So, the ease of use is the main features that I like about SketchUp. Other thing is, it is easy to install and use plugins in this software. The true version of architectural design is visualized using this software.
Cons: I don't like having to use same command for different use. For example, you have to use M command for both moving and copying albeit you have to use control sign for copying. Still, if there were independent command for each use, it would have been so much easier like AutoCAD

I used SketchUp a lot when I was in school and have used it quite a bit since then as well. It is super user friendly as it is both intuitive to use and has a lot of features. It is a great program and a great way to get into architectural design, especially the free version of the program.
Pros: It does what I want it to and has a large library of assets that can be loaded into it. It also exports into other programs verry well. Drawing and modeling are straight forward and easy to do.
Cons: Honestly I don't have anything negative to say about SketchUp. My biggest grievance is that the free version restricts certain features but that can be easily rectified buy purchasing the paid version which does everything you could want it to.
Lex M. · Personal User · Design · July 18, 2025
Initially, the software was a complement to technical drawing in civil construction, but more recent versions have introduced new features that bring customization, technical precision, and improved graphical representation. This allows the program to be used throughout the entire lifecycle of an architectural project, from conception to delivery. Furthermore, it has many users worldwide, making it easy to share information, experience, and files.
Pros: Extremely easy to use for routine modeling in architectural office and essential for quick volumetric studies. The 3D Warehouse library is comprehensive and diverse in materials and components.
Cons: The program easily becomes cumbersome with larger projects and crashes unexpectedly. The developer's rendering extensions still need significant development to avoid the need for additional support in more formal projects.

It’s expedited us in our design-to-client sign-off cycle. When clients can see the space in 3D before we build, they feel more comfortable advancing.
Pros: Sketchup Kitchen and Bathroom Design sketchup sketchupdrawing plan their kitchen or bath design. I can deliver 3D images to clients without having to wait for full CAD renders, which means approvals happen faster.
Cons: The learning curve on model precision was a bit steep, and it’s not free to export in some important formats.
Ben T. · Renovation Project Manager · Construction · July 3, 2025
Product is good but given the challenge of cancelling subscription not worth it. For limited time projects consider other options.
Pros: The software is good and with some patience and initiative you can teach yourself to use it. Export to pdf to share with contractor is a nice feature for small projects
Cons: Trimble failed to honor the cancellation when I’d completed the project and finished using the product. If you plan to only use this product for a limited period of time then DO NOT SUBSCRIBE as you will be stuck with paying the fee for a while.

I tried to design some flight simulator scenery and It went ok.
Pros: It is the only way I know how to design flight simulator scenery
Cons: All the models that are for sale are kind of expensive.

Use it constantly in my projects to model a portion of a build to convey that to the guys in the field.
Pros: Fast and easy to learn... plenty of assets in the 3d warehouse, plus tons of extensions (some free) that help expedite the process of producing a model.
Cons: Wish some of the third party "paid" extensions would be incorporated into the program itself, especially for the architectural / construction side of things. For instance, Medeek's extensions and Condoc extension... I think if they were to offer a version that was just for architecture with these extensions as part of that package it would go over well... so I don't have to manage 10 other subscriptions and when to renew them and what not.

overall good experience and user friendly
Pros: Easy to use and user-friendly for beginner
Cons: costly for small-scale firms and individuals.

Great for both simple and complex 3D modeling.
Pros: Sketchup is one of the more simple 3D modeling software programs, making it easy for beginners and advanced 3D modelers to use.
Cons: There are tonnes of plug-ins for SketchUp, and it would be great if there were more educational videos on how to use each tool.
Shae B. · Interior Designer · Architecture & Planning · February 24, 2025
SketchUp has great benefits in the Arch Design word, figuring those out and utilizing them with other programs is key.
Pros: I enjoy the quickness of being able to develop a building concept for the exterior with regards to the shape and material
Cons: Doing a full building design can be done but it is a laborious process.
Kevin S. · BIM Manager · Architecture & Planning · February 19, 2025
Been using this product for 8 years now and it's always my go to for quick renderings.
Pros: It is quick to mock up to scale drawings. Easy to add color and use extensions to create realistic renderings. I've been trying out the new AI feature for renderings and working well.
Cons: How everything is a different plane and it doesn't work in complete forms like other programs. Makes editing a drawing difficult if you don't draw it completely right the first time.
Abbey R. · Senior Interior Designer · Design · January 30, 2025
It is a fun, easy to use and versatile program that is the perfect application for my profession.
Pros: It is user friendly, efficient and has a lot of different tools. Having used it for more than 5 years I've become proficient and are able to create interior design layouts with ease and efficiency.
Cons: It sometimes freezes when using it on Mac. I'm not sure how the experience differs on Microsoft but it can be frustrating when the program freezes on Mac (this would also depend of course on the spec of your computer)
Harrison B. · Interior Designer · Design · January 27, 2025
It is one of the best software for creating 3D models. You can make them as simple or complex as you need.
Pros: It is an intuitive software. Easy to use. You can get totally professional results.
Cons: The price could be better compared to other software.
Antonio A. · Architect · Architecture & Planning · January 2, 2025
Overall it is a good program. If studied a little more I could've been able to master it.
Pros: That O was able to draw on my iPad with ease.
Cons: It wasn’t too user friendly, it would sometimes draw a line where I didn't want it to. Some of the user tools are hidden and you need to really look for it.
Tanya R. · Operations-coordinator · Construction · October 17, 2024
Overall, I love SketchUp because I am able to use it in my low-end laptop to make a realistic 3D model.
Pros: I like most about sketchup is that it is very easy to learn and it is the only 3D software, aside from autocad, which can be accessed even in an intel core laptop. Thanks for this software, I am able to do a 3D perspective, even though I am not using a high-end laptop.
Cons: I think what I like least about Sketchup is that it is a little bit pricey.
MA. CELINE D. · Office Engineer · Civil Engineering · September 24, 2024
Pros: The tools are good for new beginners who want to design layouts.
Cons: The tools lack the advanced options in other competitive software such as Revit.
