Revit helps your team design and coordinate complex building projects using 3D and BIM tools. It’s mainly used by small and midsize firms in architecture, construction, and civil engineering. It stands out for its parametric 3D modeling and building information modeling (BIM) tool that offers BIM collaboration features. You may find the interface outdated and the learning curve steep. A recent update added enhanced performance in 2D and 3D views.

Revit is the backbone of the architecture industry, and is the main resource for bringing architectural visions into constructable reality. I am able to effectively collaborate with both coworkers and consultants very efficiently.
Pros: You can essentially create 3D models and 2D drafting simultaneously. If you get good with creating templates, you can almost automate the drafting process while modelling the building. The interface is subdivided very well, which makes navigation very straightforward as well.
Cons: When it fatally crashes while working on a project. Thankfully, they’ve implemented a recovery option, so work doesn’t get lost the way it once did.

Pros: I like how everything is integrated together between the different disciplines when drafting. Any changes made to the mechanical systems (ie, location) will reflect also on the electrical and architectural plans.
Cons: I wish they would have more mechanical HVAC selections to choose from when doing a load calculation of the building. That way, we would not have to use another third party software to do load calculations and just do everything in Revit.

For specific projects the software has worked and BIM is a great tool. If the project is not complexed with a lot of other disciplines it may not be worth using.
Pros: The software is able to detect areas of conflict when developing the model. This will aid in eliminating expense change orders during construction.
Cons: Differently the upfront costs to implement the software into the design process. New powerful computers are a must along with competent staff.

The clear and simple visualization that helps in understanding the project with a detailed information.
Pros: I love the way it automatically produces the schedules and estimate the material that helps in real time budgeting of the project and meet the deadlines.
Cons: It usually work with large and complex projects that needs special skills and technical knowledge to work with the software.
Mohammed M. · Project manager · Construction · February 28, 2026
Very good. It's a staple of my drafting. It can be frustrating but there's good communities that have workarounds
Pros: It's compatibility with all the disciplines, mechanical, architectural, civil, landscaping etc. also the functionality to help with designs
Cons: The model has to be built perfectly to allow all the designs to run smoothly. When using it to design you really need a lot of experience

Davide C. · Impiegato · Architecture & Planning · February 10, 2026
It is by far the smartest software that an Architecture student can use. Especially when you are a beginner, the sheer knowledge that it gives for visualization is so clear. The pros easily outweigh the cons.
Pros: It is extremely dynamic and smart. It is the combination of AutoCAD and Sketchup in one. We can visualize the 3D while doing 2D. It's that smart and easy to work with. Proper value for Money.
Cons: For whatever reason, I disliked Revit while doing interior design. It felt too complicated while doing interior while doing exterior it is completely opposite.
BISHNU A. · Project Engineer · Construction · January 9, 2026
It is a powerful industry standard that is accepted as a True BIM Tool and not just a drafting program. It has allowed me to enable coordination, automate documentation and integrate data the way other tools cannot.
Pros: I enjoy it's function ability of how every aspect works as one model. Plans, Sections and Schedules all work together and change together as modifications are made. Visualization and documentation also work in the same way.
Cons: Very steep learning curve along with it's Performance and Stability issues can make it difficult to operate by someone that is not sufficiently trained and has experience.
Michael H. · Construction Survey Manager · Construction · January 6, 2026
Pros: When you need accurate BIM packages or manage materials take-offs, Revit is the essential. It allows great coordination between you and the construction service.
Cons: The software requires high performance, yet you may face slowness, especially with large architectural files. It also takes a long time to understand every aspect of using it well.

Overall a fantastic product that barely needs notes. I do think there should be AI implementation for communication with your project, not design. A chat bot designed to asked things about your project.
Pros: I've personally been using revit for years and its unmatched. Currently there is not another complete program that competes with this. Industry standard. Love working on something one thing and it being reflected and reused 4-5 times in BIM and other type of informations. Truly complete product.
Cons: There was a problem my team encountered with the few customizations regarding visibility and visually impaired team members. Some members couldnt see blue very well and there are some things that you cant change in the program.

Overall, my experience with Revit has been excellent. It’s a complete tool for design and project collaboration, and it really helps me work more efficiently. It’s definitely worth the investment for anyone working in architecture, engineering, or construction.
Pros: I really like how Revit makes project design and collaboration so much easier. The 3D modeling tools are powerful, and it’s great that changes update everywhere automatically. It saves a lot of time and reduces mistakes.
Cons: The only downside is that it can feel heavy on the computer and takes time to fully learn, but once you get used to it, it’s worth it.
Ashish A. · Field Engineer · Civil Engineering · August 23, 2025
I have used Revit for personal use, as well as using it through my schooling, and even taken classes that are solely focused on the Revit itself.
Pros: It does everything I could possibly want it to. I am constantly learning new features and and shortcuts. It is relatively easy to learn and vary well organized. It integrates seamlessly with a lot of other reprograms, even outside of Autodesk's own programs. Sharing and collaborating on projects is also made easy with Revit.
Cons: It can be harder than some programs to learn at first as the sheer amount of features can be over whelming. As this is a result of the needs that we have for the program, I don't hold this against Revit, although I do wish there was more tutorial options as I do find myself searching online or reaching out to collogues for tips and explanations of some features.

Revit is an exceptional software that allows you to design and analyze multiple trades in your modeling efforts for the projects. Even though there are multiple Bentley software, Revit still manages to be the top choice of engineers when it comes to collaborating with each other and delivering a digital product. Its been tricky to incorporate Site Civil/ Land development features into the Revit model and that is where Revit needs to upgrade itself and fill the gap that currently exists.
Pros: Collaboration of the different trades such as electrical, mechanical, structural, & fire protection etc is the best feature that Revit can offer.
Cons: Collaboration with Site Civil is still something that Revit lacks today. Site Civil uses Civil3D as their main go-to software and interoperability between Civil3d and Revit is something that doesn’t work well. You have to find a work around to make it work. Using NWC exports, or IFC exports works but does not carry all the information.

I have been working with Revit for 9 years and it is a game changer comparing to other BIM softwares. It is straight forward and easy to use.
Pros: Being able to work in both 2d and 3d simultaneously is what I like the most about revit. I also like working on a shared file in the office which helps deliver projects faster
Cons: That the sorting/grouping when scheduling is limited which causes varies in some fields. This means taking the schedule to excel and filling in missing information manually.
Emmanuel A. · Senior FFE Designer · Architecture & Planning · June 18, 2025
My overall experience with autodesk revit is very pleasant and I will continue to use this program for the foreseeable future.
Pros: What I like the most about autodesk revit is the ease of use for creating drawings and 3d representation,
Cons: What I like the least about autodesk revit is sometimes files are too large and cannot be opened on computers that are not capable.
Adam R. · Project Engineer · Mechanical or Industrial Engineering · June 12, 2025
I have been using Revit in many projects. It helped me see where the maximum load effect when i run FEA.
Pros: Very good with analysis complicated structures. Also, Revit uses Finite Element Method which helpful to visual the forces along the members.
Cons: There is no significant downside of using Revit. It’s widely used in all countries around the world.
Abdullah A. · Structural Engineering · Civil Engineering · May 20, 2025
Very positive. I combine it with render 5D Render. One can create all possible constructions. There are many Revit objects and families, which can be downloaded for free from secure websites for the projects one works on.
Pros: It is relatively easy to work with. It is amazing how with just working in level, you can visualize the work in 3D in the same time. It works easily with render plugin such as D5 Render, which I use
Cons: It is complicated to edit complexed families. Some elements can be locked or are inflexible. The learning process takes time but once mastered it is very intuitive. The license price is high
Kasia P. · Landscape Designer · Design · May 8, 2025
It has been a very positive experience, having a 3d model to reference and locate issues in real time has been paramount
Pros: coordination between trades/consultants, being able to see issues before they arrive in the field
Cons: Automatic wall joins, sometimes Revit does thing that are not options in the real world and they make it hard to override.
Eric H. · Tech · Architecture & Planning · April 9, 2025
