Discord is a communication platform that makes it possible to maintain public or private communities where users can chat by video, audio, and text. Discord communities are organized using channels and roles, which allows the moderating of conversations, granting of differentiated access to some users, and defining a series of settings, such as the volume of audio messages shared by each participant and the integration of bots to automate content.

Pros: Free chat/video with high quality admin controls for communities large and small. It just works for keeping connected with folks across the world
Cons: It's a bit complex to get started and some of the admin tooling is tricky to get right. And then there is the spam which is annoying, but Discord tries to help

My overall experience with Discord has been very positive. I use it at Concordia University to access my student union’s server, join the channels for each of my courses, and stay connected with other students. I really like that past students who already completed the course are active in the channels and help us with materials, explanations, and tutoring. Everything—discussions, files, group chats, and support—is organized in one place, so it makes studying and interacting with my peers much easier. Overall, Discord has been a reliable and convenient platform for communication and academic support.
Pros: What I like most about Discord is how easy it makes it for me to connect with other students at Concordia University. I can access my student union’s server, join the channels for each course, and get help from past students who already completed the class. I really like that everything—materials, discussions, tutoring, and group chats—is all in one place, so I never feel lost or disconnected. It makes studying and interacting with my peers a lot easier and more organized.

Discord is very good for communication and collaboration with other people. It has many interesting features that make it attractive to use. I have been using discord for the past 4 years.
Pros: Discord is very good to communicate and collaborate with people around the world. I like the fact that it is easy to navigate. The availability of tagging is great. It’s customer support team is great.
Cons: Discord can be find Overwhelming especially for new users. Also there is need for subscription to have access to some interesting features.

I use it for hours every day and it’s great! I can chat with friends and family and connect with people who I can’t see on the daily
Pros: I love the ability to spend time with friends that may not live near me. And the fact that I can play games with friends without using in game chat
Cons: I can’t name one bad thing about discord. The only time I have any issues is when my network isn’t working well but that’s not discords fault

it’s a great app! I really loved it and will be glad to recommend it to my fellow techies to organize there events
Pros: Discord is a very great app! The ability to create a community and have sections for team collaboration and also set role for users.
Cons: It was really difficult to navigate as a new user, if more details user manual is available it will be awesome

Pros: Easy of use, a lot of possibilities to use it, from just creating community to just work envirement.
Cons: For me useless monetization like animated avatars, backgrounds etc. i get they need to finance it somehow and maybe just im not a target.

No one actually monitors. they have cyber bullying and harassment that is active and they do nothing, they send you a generic automated message of how you can go about reporting somebody but it only works one way there's no other options and no other individuals willing to actually do the work that needs to be done.
Pros: It's easy to use, would be great if there's actual people monitoring issues or when you send in a report of issues that they will actually communicate with you and try to figure out a workaround, but they dont
Cons: Reporting issues is the waste of time, cyberbullying, harassment and demeaning comments allowed, if you tried to report a server or a user or admin you're automatically blocked and nobody replies back other than an automated system that ends up switching any active complaints to solved

This app has allowed me to stay in touch with friends and followers and aided in streaming. The audio sometimes needs to be readjusted and on occasions doesn't work as it should but overall, a good software.
Pros: I like how easy it is to screen share, talk with friends or followers over dedicated channels with strong connection.
Cons: How hard it is to add or find people or groups sometimes. It feels like that could be made easier. Also, the audio options sometimes are difficult to set up, it should be easy.

Pros: Free, easy to use, lots of features available. Accessible and user friendly with some really good options for all users
Cons: There's not much to dislike, but the partnerships they force upon your UI is quite intrusive even though you can remove them

Overall my experience with Discord is an excellent one. It's become an important part of my day to day life. I do roleplaying on a server I created for me and my Husband. I use it for a server for a Fan Dub Project. You really can do anything with Discord. It's an ideal way to stay in touch with all of your friends no matter how far apart you are.
Pros: Discord is a gateway to infinite possibilities. There are literally thousands upon thousands of servers you can join with the Program being the center point of it all. I guarentee you there a server for anything and everything you have interest in. Gaming, Sports, Music, there's a server for that. This truly is the spiritual successor to instant messaging! You can link up your social media. You can link up your email. Discord offers support to those in need AND it's easy to use. All of this is completely free! You don't have to pay anything to use Discord!
Cons: There are a few things I'm not a fan of are the paid features. When you buy Nitro for roughly $10 a month, you get 2 server boosts for a server of your choosing, the ability to use Stickers/Emotes on any server, longer posts, and a 500mb upload limit. While these are good features, I'm not a fan of how it's locked behind a paywall when Discord is a free to use Application. Another issue I have is while there is Discord Support should something go wrong, in the amount of time it takes Support to respond, the issue you're having may very well already be resolved. Not exactly ideal if someone is raiding your server or harassing you in DMs.

Discord overall is a great software that I use every single day to connect with friends and do small collaborative projects. I recommend it to anyone with more casual needs and does not require enterprise level software and security. In terms of pure communication and features available, Discord perform far better than MS Teams, Zoom, or Skype. Best of all its completely free for most uses cases, and for those looking for extra features and personalization Discord Nitro is not a bad value for the money.
Pros: Discord is very easy to navigate and has a user interface that is intuitive and well-designed. It also has a lot of personalization that makes collaboration both personalized and responsive. The audio is always loud and clear, and it is ideal for informal conversations as well as meetings with teams. I really enjoy the ability to have group servers where you can organize channels by different topics or projects. Aside from that, sharing of files, images, and other documents is a breeze directly in chat, and collaboration is a breeze. In terms of Value of money 90% of Discord is completely free. The payed version Discord Nitro is not too expensive at $10. It provides more personalization, and larger file transfer sizes, but for pure communication is not required at all.
Cons: One drawback is that it is less dependable for private conversations due to the absence of robust security features or end-to-end encryption. Additionally, Discord isn't really made for business or professional use, so it doesn't fit in well at work. Another problem is that anyone can message you and search for your username, which raises security and privacy concerns.

Scary. For adults only and even then young adults are being damaged by the chat content..we are breeding a hate filled population from this site.
Pros: Advanced gaming. If this technology existed in my youth and young adult life, id lose touch with reality given the totallity of it consuming my everyday existence.
Cons: Chat rooms filled with inappropriate content for minors. Get your kids off of this site! FBI is looking into leftwing groups spreading violence on this site.

Overall, Discord is a fun environment for relaxed discussions among colleagues, more of a team-building setting vs a successful work project setting.
Pros: It is a very well-organized space for conducting cross-departmental projects and discussions. It is also a more relaxed setting with many collaboration features.
Cons: Lacks security: There are spam bots, which pose a significant problem and a substantial security risk. Discord also mutes automatically when it hears background music which is frustrating for the user.

I’ve had an overall good experience using discord for group messaging and private messaging. It’s been helpful for collaborating.
Pros: Discord allows a person to create a server or group chat with automated features. It allows for organized team collaboration. The private channels in servers allow you to customize who can view what and easily allow certain branches of a company or group to see specific content. It is a free platform.
Cons: You cannot make servers fully private, while they are invite only the links can be guessed. There has been connectivity issues. The moderation team on discord can be difficult to work with.

It's easy to use and navigate, and I enjoy being able to collaborate with others and make new friends and connect with other people.
Pros: I like how I can talk to people and be apart of communities and have fun and connect with other people and just have a lot learn new things and collaborate with others!
Cons: I don't like how short the character limit is for my description/bio I wish it could be longer, so I can make it prettier, I also wish I could customize my profile without having to buy nitro
Anonymous User · Baker · Food Production · August 5, 2025
Pros: It’s a very good program because it’s complete with everything needed for effective collaboration: direct messaging, calls, group messaging, file sending and an excellent server system.
Cons: It doesn’t really have bugs or systems that are badly designed. Just a small note, they should do something about the invitation links that are no longer active.
David K. · Head of Community · Marketing and Advertising · July 28, 2025
Pros: Free to use for the essential features. Easy to setup servers with channels and permissions. Call quality is good.
Cons: Too many customization options locked behind the expensive Nitro subscription. 100 server limit without nitro subscription. Rich presence can sometimes get stuck or be heavily delayed (eg. Crunchyroll).

The best social platform I can think of that doesn't revolve around media or content creation. A leader in customization, organization, and connection.
Pros: I love the sheer amount of customization and organization that I can achieve with Discord, from simple servers with friends, to solor servers that act as involved planners, to large scale official servers that I interact with for games and more!
Cons: I do not love Discord's use of Artificial Intelligence, nor the paywalls for decent upload size/generally better file limit and extra customization. I am alsobof a mind that the quest system is invasive and a nuisance.

Casual gaming with a group of friends. Nothing professional. I would say I've used it on an doff for about 6 years.
Pros: I really like Collaborative gaming with friends and playing online with quizzes whilst still using voice.
Cons: The fact that even when i already have audio devices sorted in the settings if I plug in a controller it think I want the controller to take over all audio

Overall it's still a program that I use every day, however that is more due to the lack of real competitors than loyalty. It used to be a program I loved, but it feels like every year it gets worse.
Pros: Discord is widely used so most clients and collaborators I need to speak with already have accounts. It has all the basic functions I need for communication - direct messaging, calls, group messaging, file sending, and a great server system.
Cons: The program has so many issues and glitches, in particular the mobile version. The devs regularly make updates to the program that don't make much sense, while neglecting real issues. The addition of an integrated AI that cannot be removed or opted out of also makes it very frustrating to use as an artist.

Overall experience is great with Discord. Lot of server customizability, easy to keep in contact with friends either in groups or solo. Can all play games together and stream simultaneously.
Pros: Can connect with friends privately or in a group setting easily. Can send each other photos and videos, stream your games and screens. Can stream applications and screens super easily to multiple people and they can join or leave call whenever or multiple people streaming simultaneously . Unlimited call time and streaming time. Can video call with group of friends. Can share emojis in servers (if paying for their nitro).
Cons: From their recent update, streaming has been lagging a lot and will lag or force close the application being streamed. Even after turning off 'hardware acceleration' it seems to happen a lot amongst my friends and self.

I used Discord for over a year during a long-distance relationship, and it worked surprisingly well. Being able to jump in or out of a call is amazing and being able to share screens or watch things together helped us feel more connected despite the distance.
Pros: I really like the way Discord organizes conversations into channels. It makes it easy to navigate, stay on topic, and connect with different groups all in one place.
Cons: There are occasional connection issues or crashes, especially when switching between devices or using certain features like voice and video calls. Notifications don’t always sync properly across platforms, which can make it easy to miss messages. These bugs don’t happen all the time, but when they do, they can interrupt the flow of communication and make the experience a little frustrating. I’d love to see these technical issues improved for smoother, more reliable performance.

It would be great if the free version allowed more than 2,000 words and supported larger video and image sharing sizes.
Pros: Discord is simple to use. It is straightforward and was the first resource teenage students turned to during the pandemic to join study groups and preferred it to Zoom. In addition to being the go to application for gamers.
Cons: The free version does not allow for more than 2000 words and the video and image size allowed to share is small.
