Sage Accounting helps small businesses manage invoicing, reporting, and day-to-day financial tasks with minimal setup. It’s most used by accounting and retail teams in small firms. Users value its ease of use, remote access, and Excel export tools. While performance and payment processing are common drawbacks, its inventory tracking and Microsoft 365 integration offer added control.

I have no complaints, just enhancement wishes. It would be nice to have edit capabilities to change dates of payment received, and reporting needs to be expanded to include sub-categories so that the parent/child relationship can be reported on and filtered once exported.
Pros: As a beginner, the UI is easy to navigate and the help feature is intuitive when a process isn't clear.
Cons: When deleting an invoice, there should be a prompt to delete corresponding payment so you don't end up with duplicate entries. Also, there should be an increase in the file size allowed when uploading invoices/receipt image files.

Use it for a number of companies as an experienced accountant and owner. Have used for a number of years.
Pros: It does the accounts payable and receivable functions fine. It does the accounts payable and receivable functions fine.
Cons: This software is not built for someone with accounting experience. May be great for those with minimal accounting knowledge but not for others with an higher expectation. There is no automatic year end close journal entry as an example. So you have to key it all from scratch. That is a waste of time. Once you close the period, the entry should be just pressing a button. Just one example. Reporting is not the best in my opinion.

Overall I found sage online very frustrating to use and not user friendly. The desktop version is possibly better.
Pros: I found it worked fairly well for keeping track of expenses, although it was a time consuming process to match everything up and reconcile. We had quick access to our customer data base.
Cons: I did not like sage online. I feel there could be many improvements made. It had a very difficult time working with my bank uploading transaction. Often times there would be many missing and id have to input them manually. I do not like that when I cancelled I could not download a usable file to save for tax purposes later, nor download a usable customer list. Also, in the app it would constantly sign out our guys in the field so everytime they wanted to write up an invoice on site they would have to log back in. Just not user friendly.

It works well for what it is, adding products and customers are fairly easy and simple to learn. It is a great tool for running a small business.
Pros: You can email the invoices to customers instantly for requesting payment, or as a form of reciept. The invoice system is simple to understand and finding products is easy as well- so long as you know exactly what you are looking for.
Cons: Returns/refunds are confusing and writing stock off for store use is also a little difficult, as you need to open two tabs and search each item individually for their cost.

Overall happy. Despite some limitation in functions, it is flexible enough to work around. Again online access is essentially most important for us.
Pros: Online asy access is great. And customer support seems to have improved a lot, trying to get to my challenges. Also the follow-up call was great.
Cons: Lack of some functionalities. I wish to be able to control posting date, aside from invoice/document date. Also vendor detail list would be also great.
Eugene P. · Chief Operating Officer · Non-Profit Organization Management · May 5, 2026
It meets the very basic needs. Set up was fairly simple and bank transactions are easy to do. When I have chatted with a real person, they were no more helpful than the chatbot.
Pros: Its easy to post transactions from the bank. Its easy to customize the Chart of Accounts. Its easy to make corrections.
Cons: The chatbot is not helpful. There is very limited reporting and the Profit and Loss Statement and Balance Sheet are not customizable. The training and help materials are limited. They tell you how to click to complete a task, but they don't. I haven't been able to figure out the taxes, but I can work around it manually, with some inconvenience.

I use it for my own sole proprietorship as well as a friends. It works really well for the small amount of entries for both companies. I also like the quick switching from one company to the other, no more waiting for the backup to finish and then opening another company.
Pros: This Sage Cloud account gave me a more affordable alternative to the full program that I use at the office.
Cons: Finding an understandable and accurate Income Statement. I am still navigating the reports and they are not labeled like the full Sage program I use at work.

I really like it so far. I was used to the old versions of Sage I prefer this much better. To top it off we got special pricing which is a huge benefit for a small business.
Pros: I really like how easy it was to learn. I love the quick posting of invoices!! I cut my time in doing full statements by at least half.
Cons: Took me a bit to learn the reporting system. I really had to keep playing around with them to get what I wanted. I used the chat Customer Service which was very helpful.

Overall, our experience with Sage Accounting has been positive, particularly for managing day-to-day financial tasks in a straightforward and efficient way. The platform is easy to use, which made onboarding staff and volunteers relatively smooth, even for those without a strong accounting background. For a not-for-profit organization, it has been effective in handling core functions like tracking income and expenses, reconciling accounts, and maintaining accurate financial records. The automation features, such as bank feeds, have helped reduce manual data entry and improve efficiency. In summary, Sage Accounting has been a reliable and cost-effective solution for our current scale of operations, but organizations with more complex reporting or compliance needs may find it somewhat limiting over time.
Pros: We also appreciated how user-friendly the system is—staff and volunteers with varying levels of accounting experience can navigate it with minimal training. Features like automated bank feeds and real-time financial visibility help reduce manual work and improve accuracy, which is important when resources are limited. Finally, the affordability and scalability make it a practical choice for a not-for-profit. It provides the core functionality needed to maintain transparency and accountability to stakeholders, while still being flexible enough to grow with the organization’s needs.
Cons: What we liked least about Sage Accounting was its limited functionality for not-for-profit–specific needs. While it handles basic bookkeeping well, it lacks more advanced features such as fund accounting, detailed grant tracking, and restricted fund management, which are often essential for not-for-profit organizations. We also found that reporting can be somewhat inflexible. Customizing reports to meet the specific requirements of donors, boards, or regulatory bodies can be challenging without additional manual work or exporting data to other tools.

I love that and its overall easy to use but i would need more explication overall for using the app more
Pros: Everything at large☺️ invoicing, financial report, the attachment possibility for my clients in coaching
Cons: In french sorry rapprochement bancaire because i didn’t find information to do this action correctly

Run, run far away from this awful software. I'm in the process of switching to Quickbooks. I wouldn't use Sage again if it was free.
Pros: Literally nothing. Sage 50 was at least usable, the cloud accounting is absolutely terrible. Not intuitive at all.
Cons: linked bank accounts only update after several days (One hasn't updated for 21 days at the moment). They un-sync constantly. We have 2 separate companies, only one uses Sage accounting, but the other company uses Sage Payroll (only payroll). Somehow an EMPLOYEE of the company that uses PAYROLL ONLY software suddenly had their name as the main person in the accounting software even though they don't work for the this company (I am the only one who uses either companies sage software and I would never have changed the name). Bank rules don't work, I've watched every video, and tried a dozen ways (including having someone online try and help). The simply don't work. The Payroll software is just as bad...
Leslie H. · Owner · Retail · May 1, 2026
Overall, the customer support is disappointing and often unhelpful. The platform is not very intuitive and can be difficult to navigate, especially for clients who are not familiar with accounting software. Payroll not being built into the system adds unnecessary complexity and results in additional costs, making workflows less efficient. The reconciliation process could be significantly improved, and both invoicing and expense tracking lack the level of efficiency and automation that is now standard in many competing tools. While Sage does market AI capabilities, they are not meaningfully integrated into the core user experience of Sage Business Cloud Accounting. In practice, many everyday workflows still feel manual and lack the level of intelligent automation now expected in modern accounting software.
Pros: While I didn’t personally find the platform to offer strong value for money, I’ve worked with it extensively because many of my clients use it. The financial reporting is adequate and gets the job done; however, it feels limited when compared to other platforms like QuickBooks Online. The range of reporting options and the level of customization available there allow users to tailor reports far more effectively and extract more meaningful insights.
Cons: Due to limited integrations, I eventually transitioned most of my clients from Sage Business Cloud Accounting to QuickBooks Online. A key example is payroll—since it is not natively built into the platform, it requires additional tools, leading to added costs, inefficiencies, and a more fragmented workflow.

I have used it for several years for a small real estate development company and it has met all my needs. The customer support has been great when needed and the value for the money spent has exceeded my expectations.
Pros: The ease of filing GST and maintaining the books online. It is easy for several people to access the information anywhere and at the same time. It is easy to invoice customers as well as pay vendors.
Cons: Financial reporting can be a bit difficult at times depending on the information you are trying to extract.

Overall, my experience with Sage Accounting has been positive. It’s reliable, well supported, and effective for day‑to‑day bookkeeping. The strong customer service team stands out and helped resolve issues efficiently, making the platform easier to use despite some minor limitations.
Pros: Excellent customer service with fast, knowledgeable support that resolved issues quickly and clearly.
Cons: Limited customisation and occasional performance lag made some workflows slower than expected for me.

I have been working with Sage (Simple Comptable) for more than 10 years .. I stayed to it because it fits my needs as a small business. It is very easy to use and understand accounting, even for someone who is not familiar with accounting principles. There is always a way to get help and guidance.
Pros: It is worth the investment. Simple to use, every step of accounting, and you can choose which topics you need and adapt to your business . It does all the steps from invoicing, connection to your bank accounts for conciliation. It is possible to connect to all your bank accounts and credit cards for automatic conciliation, always keeping track of your expenses.
Cons: It provides all the financial information and you can pull reports. However, the type of report is simple, I often have to export to Excel to make it more fancy for a presentation.

I tested many programs to help me track my company expenses, invoices and everything. Sage is the best!
Pros: Ease of Use, Invoicing, Financial Reporting Expense Tracking, Tax tracking. Sage is the best program that answers all my needs!
Cons: It is a bit expensive, but still the best program that answers all my needs! Nothing really bad to say about it, we love it.

Very positive in terms of time management and access to timely reports that allow for improve coordination
Pros: Find a software easy to use access to videos for tutorials is made easy and just the simplification of having reporting
Cons: Just the mundane business of receipts & data entry lol i’m hoping to find a scanning feature that helps this process

it has been good. I wish there were trainign videos, and if there are some I wish they were easier to find.
Pros: It has been very easy to learn to use! Pretty intuitive. Matching items is easy. For the most part, thigns are where I expect them to be.
Cons: Connecting accounts to the bank is a nightmare. It fails over and over again, and then disconnects and you have to start over again.
Sara F. · Treasurer · Non-Profit Organization Management · April 27, 2026
Overall, my experience with Sage Accounting has been positive. It is a reliable platform that covers essential accounting needs such as invoicing, expense tracking, and bank reconciliation, making it suitable for managing day-to-day financial operations efficiently. The system provides a good level of structure and control, which is particularly valuable for small to medium-sized businesses. Over time, I have found it to be stable and dependable, especially for maintaining organized financial records and generating standard reports.
Pros: Sage Accounting stands out for its user-friendly interface and solid core accounting features, making it easy to manage day-to-day financial operations efficiently. The platform offers reliable tools for invoicing, expense tracking, and bank reconciliation, which help streamline workflows and save time. Another strong advantage is its integration capabilities with other business tools, allowing for smoother financial management across systems. Additionally, Sage provides good reporting functionalities, enabling clear visibility into financial performance and supporting informed decision-making.
Cons: While Sage Accounting offers solid core features, there are some limitations that can affect the overall experience. The interface, although functional, can feel somewhat outdated compared to more modern competitors, and certain workflows are not as intuitive as they could be. Customization options are also limited, particularly when it comes to reporting and adapting the platform to more complex business needs. Additionally, integration with some third-party tools can require extra steps or may not be as seamless as expected.

Overall I prefer the desktop for its reliability, but I have high hopes the online version will only continue to improve as that is the direction I think the industry is headed.
Pros: I have found sage Desktop to be consistent product. I have been using for over 15 years and I find it is extremely reliable and rarely experiences bugs. As someone who is incredibly busy I value this immensely.
Cons: As a hybrid worker when I finish work on my office PC and don't let it sync completely before opening the file on my home laptop, I have experienced sync issues and data corruption. I see the potential, but I think there is still much work to be done on the cloud side of Sage.
Melinda M. · Senior Manager · Accounting · April 27, 2026
A good all in one software to help organize and manage my business. The ease of invoicing and receiving payments is one of the best additional features.
Pros: Sage has all the features I need to organize my business expenses and handle invoicing and inventory.
Cons: The pricing is a bit on the expensive side for a small business. I don’t need all the functionality it provides.
Dylan W. · Owner · Retail · April 27, 2026
Maybe it would be better with sage 50, i dont know. It is hard to start a business and deal with everything new at once.
Pros: Since I'm a new user of that kind of product it is relatively easy and works well for invoicing. it was easy to set up because we dont use Sage at it full potential.
Cons: Like mentionned for new users that does not know much about accouting the support for learning is not helping much. It is complicated to have assistance. I wish I could have more help for the basis. We are a metal work and line boring business, we sale our repair, fabrication and line boring services, we dont sell parts or anything that need inventories.
Danielle l. · coowner · Machinery · April 27, 2026
Very positive. It drives value and value based outcomes for my business by making invoicing and expense management a breeze. Easy to use and manage workflow
Pros: Value for money. The tool is relatively fairly priced for the values dekivers to my business. Invoicing and expense tracking are easy to use and save time.
Cons: Some minor functions are difficult to locate such as changing payment terms for a designated account to n15
