Overall very very good. It works perfectly well, does everything I need it to, syncs over email account as well.
Pros: Really a great free platform for CAD work. Has all the necessary features like 3D and 2D design and lots of customization options. Security and customer support are great. Also its free so amazing value for money.
Cons: There are really no cons to Onshape. It works extremely well and has every feature that other CAD softwares have.

Overall I am very satisfied with the Onshape and will highly recommend it. Also its something which is very user friendly.
Pros: Its server based system, which enables access from anywhere, and even with relatively basic hardwares.
Cons: That it cant read IFC data and the sheet metal tool is not fully developed. Its definitely improving but it can be definitely better.

We've been very pleased with Onshape because of its accessibility and reliability. Unlike some of its competitors, there is no initial "purchase" required, and the annual subscription is very competitive with other annual subscriptions. This means the value is realized immediately.
Pros: Natively cloud CAD means you can do design work in your browser. Completely platform agnostic and reliable, Onshape is very accessible to even low-power computers. Database documents mean that collaboration on models is very easy and allows for simultaneous viewing and editing.
Cons: The drawings package is not native to Onshape, so its features are different from the rest of the platform. For example, it is very easy to collaborate on part and assembly tabs, but drawings only allow one user to have them open at the same time. This is a bit frustrating because drawings are the one feature most engineers need to collaborate on.

Making more fun everyday in every drawing. You learn fast and easy. There had been always an online course or description for me to help me going on to my designproblem!-)
Pros: Always the right document, a secure software with great customer support. Value 3D Design in your drawings with a good sales and purchasing strategy to be in very good value for money. Design in your fingertips everywhere everytime with no hassel on elder documents to care about.
Cons: The Standard Plan does not include Company managed data and release management to fundamental things for everybody using CAD seriously, although they are lonesome riders!-)

Have been daily user for 7years, more than happy with the dirrection and performance of this CAD solution, newer stops improving.
Pros: Pace of development. Worflow, data organising, document structure, mates. Support, availability across users.
Cons: Large assembly performance, I understand it is a difficult issue to manage, but still that is what can feel in day to day use.
Kalvis A. · Mechanical Design Engineer · Machinery · December 3, 2025
Pros: I love not losing any data, how OnShape handles mates in assemblies, and their sheet metal tools. It's solid and dependable. I thought I would struggle with the internet connection requirement, but it really doesn't come up much and certainly a lot less than my other programs crash or have a license server go down.
Cons: I work extensively with interns. The process for on boarding an intern is great for 1-4 occasionally, but I find myself avoiding adding new interns because it gets cumbersome at 3-6 every quarter.
Gage W. · Project Manager · Design · December 1, 2025
I work on onshape from 3 years straight and I can see, the progress that you made on a weekly/ monthly basis and that's great. Thank you!
Pros: Onshape has the most needed modeling features and even above. Works smoothly from everywhere it doesn't need to be installed everything is cloud based which is genius.
Cons: Sometimes work is little slower, but this is because of a various reasons and it's fixable I think. The main reasons for me is not enough experience and too large assemblies.
Georgi F. · Mechanical design engineer · Supermarkets · December 1, 2025
it works really good for what we do in our business!
Pros: it is simple to operate, the best part is I can log in from anywhere and look up a product and make changes as needed.
Cons: I can't think of anything at this time!
Ruben Hofer R. · welder · Farming · November 29, 2025
I've been using Onshape for the last year and a half, used several tools from it and opened it from different computers without the need to a local installation.
Pros: The concept of having a part studio in which you can design all correlated parts of some subassembly. Costly wise is much cheaper than a systematic license for SolidWorks, so it is more suitable for small business and startups
Cons: Sometimes the loading of the assemblies take too much time to open, in some cases it can freeze your computer.
Walter S. · RnD Engineer · Mechanical or Industrial Engineering · November 26, 2025
Onshape is the future of CAD. The ability to work on any device with a web browser and an internet or cell connection alone is a game changer. It is a "No worries" CAD system that allows you to focus on designing and not worrying about crashes, designs not saved, taking a wrong turn in a design and having to start over from scratch. It's a CAD system that works for you and not the other way around like others.
Pros: The thing I like most about Onshape is the simplicity of the Part Studio, The intuitiveness of the functions of the commands, the clean not cluttered toolbar, and the power and speed of simple mate connections in assembly.
Cons: One item that Onshape is still behind other CAD packages is sheet metal functionality. There are some solid core features but items such as lofted sheet metal and being able to switch from the default outside angle call out to inside angle call out is still missing just to name a couple.
Bryan L. · CAD manager · Mechanical or Industrial Engineering · November 25, 2025
I've enjoyed learning to use Onshape after being familiar with Solidworks. There is a bit of a learning curve, but also many things that are improvements over solidworks.
Pros: I like that it runs on any computer with a web browser so I can use a lightweight laptop vs a high powered windows computer for other cad programs. I also like the ability to design multiple parts together in the part studios.
Cons: I get frustrated that I need to manually update the drawing after changing the part/assembly rather than having the drawing be up to date every time I open it.

Having used SolidWorks and Creo Parametric for years, I consider Onshape a strong step forward in modern CAD. Its integrated PDM is one of its biggest advantages. Version control, history, and collaboration are built directly into the CAD environment, which removes the complexity of external PDM systems and makes teamwork much smoother. The PDM is fluid and works much faster than others tested. Performance is excellent: file loading and general modeling feel noticeably faster, and the cloud-based workflow makes it easy to work from anywhere. The 3D design tools are very responsive, and the ability to model multiple parts in the same studio is extremely useful for developing related components. Assemblies work better than other CADs, though you need to adapt to Onshape’s different approach to mates and constraints compared to SolidWorks or Creo and I think the finite-element simulation tools still have room for improvement.
Pros: Integrated PDM is one big advantage. Simultaneous working like in a google document makes teamwork smoother. Performance (file loading, modeling) Multiple parts designing in the same "part" document.
Cons: I think the finite-element simulation tools still have room for improvement and you you need to adapt to Onshape’s different approach to mates and constraints compared to SolidWorks or Creo.

Good. It does what I need it to do. As mentioned above there are small additions that can make it better for me.
Pros: Constant improvements like the constrained surface feature. The customer support is great. The cloud based system is awsome.
Cons: The constrained surface feature needs a brush selection tool, or some way to select a region using a maximum deviation. Perhaps look to add a flat surface detector, that finds the average flat plane of a selected surface. Also do the same for cylinders and cones.
Barend H. · Designer · Design · November 25, 2025
Easy to use and modern CAD system for parametric design. Using the variable table makes creating multiple different versions of one model a breeze.
Pros: The flexibility of working in any browser is such an advantage. No mater what device, you can open your drawings and models. Sharing the same documents live with a colleague or customer and making changes real time. They have a practical and easy to use help system.
Cons: Sometimes it's hard to find the features you need, because they do feature updates every three weeks. But the search functions for finding features helps with that.
Michiel S. · Project Engineer · Industrial Automation · November 25, 2025
I am very happy with the onshape experience. I would like to share this insight to my relations that this product is so useful for team designing.
Pros: The Collaboration, make us very easy as a team to make 3d design together. The database that used for doing some part standard and materials library was so easy because of the collaboration feature.
Cons: The version, looks very complicated and sometimes we are facing editing different version that it is old. So we have to recreate the progress
Bias R. · Research and Development Engineer · Machinery · November 25, 2025
Love it. Would always use and make sure its recommended too! Sketching, extruding and dimensioning is really easy and enjoyable
Pros: Easy to use amd friendly interface. I like how the assmebly amd sketch functions works making it fun!
Cons: Sometimes its really slow and makes workflow not smooth. This usually takes alot of time and is inefficient
SETO T. · Engineer · Design · November 24, 2025
One of the most used tools in our fabrication shop. Almost every project requires some type of detail work that we need to add
Pros: Inexpensive in comparison to comparable software It is very easy to learn It has a multitude of support videos to assist learning
Cons: I had a problem with the export feature defaulting to a metric conversion. I have not had that problem for some time now Large drawings with large #'s of calcs will drag excessively
Ron C. · Owner Operator · Building Materials · November 24, 2025
Excelent! Could not be happier to work with this software within all of our organization, has made a real change on the way that we engineer.
Pros: The fast ramp up for learning, how visual and intuitive is it, and of course all the files which are on the cloud.
Cons: I'm really satisfied with it, nothing major I would consider, something which is negative is that when you don't have an enterprise licence everything that you do is public
Pau C. · Automation Engineer europe · Package/Freight Delivery · November 24, 2025
Enjoying it so far, easy to use, graphics are great. with it being all online helps with not having to buy a dedicated cad laptop.
Pros: Pretty easy to use, sketch > Revolve/Extrude.....and the ability to have a multitude of entities in the sketch, the choose which to extrude or revolve for different festures is good, along with being able to model connecting shapes all with the same part studio is good.
Cons: The versions when using components from different assemblies is a bit confusing, especially when created a standard parts library, then having to create a new version (V1, V2, V3 etc) when using on another assemby....Not sure if I have to or not, but cant find good explanation.
Stuart A. · Designer · Oil & Energy · November 24, 2025
Onshape has been my go-to CAD since 2021. I teach classes to help absolute newbies learn Onshape. I design all my work on Onshape. It is a fantastic platform, with the ability to be used on any computer, tablet, or phone. It's probably the best CAD platform I have used.
Pros: Very easy to navigate, the user interface is clean and uncluttered. Tools are fast and easy to use. The mate system is fantastic. The system's speed is outstanding.
Cons: Not having native rendering or useful CAM at all paid levels is disappointing. Snap system when designing in context is frustrating as it won't snap automatically to all edges or vertexes in the plane.
Craig D. · Team Lead · Mechanical or Industrial Engineering · November 24, 2025
A very good experience in the overall time that i have used this program (2 years) i do think that there is place for improvement
Pros: The option to share the design between one person to the other and the branch option the let you build various solution for the same design
Cons: There are a lot of things missing such as mate option (in S.W. you can mate axis ) and threads , also the import option for surfaces is not good
Yarin M. · Mechanical engineer · Mechanical or Industrial Engineering · November 24, 2025
Like we said 2 steps before. Everything is really good. Also the support if you have sth. to discuss. We are really happy to make the change from Solidworks. Also because you have a working pdm inside. And it works... without new interfaces
Pros: - Cloud option - no CAD PC - Fast, reliable - New functions insertions with easier construction is really nice agains solid works - Much more efficient with new implementations from new versions & updates. We like it a lot.
Cons: Till now we find only some problems with the point that the configurations with versions are some times a bit unuseful. configuration itselfs = perfect, but in combination not good
Axel G. · General Manager · Industrial Automation · November 19, 2025

Pros: Onshape is extremely stable, never crashes, and makes collaboration effortless. The cloud setup eliminates file issues, ensures everyone works on the right data, and keeps projects organized.
Cons: In large, complex projects, managing releases and configurations can be demanding. Onshape reflects real engineering complexity, so teams must follow good practices and stay trained.
Hans L. · CEO · Mechanical or Industrial Engineering · November 18, 2025
It is very comfortable working with onshape. No worries about files, versions or saving your work. No check-in/check-out. Just focus on your design! And never worry about loosing your work due crashes. Onshape never-ever crashed during all those years. Most of our users do not want to go back to the old CAD anymore. Administering Onshape is incredibly easy. Most things are pre-set decently. There is only little to adjust. Never worry about CAD Software updates anymore.
Pros: File-less datamanagement with easy versioning. CAD design is mostly about managing geometric relations between many parts. There is no other CAD system in the world adressing this so well. It is a game-changer! Customer Support works also very well with direct sharing of affected documents.
Cons: The lack of floating license is a pitty. It does take some time to update drawings. Also releasing a group of assemblies, parts and drawings takes up quite an amount of time.
