Pros: Helps track and manage training, protocols, and regulatory requirements, reducing compliance gaps and generally intuitive for researchers and lab staff once set up.
Cons: Can be expensive, especially for smaller labs or projects with limited funding and may feel restrictive for labs with highly customized workflows.

Pros: I really enjoy using SciSure for inventory management primarily. It's very easy to upload and organize samples, especially if you're working with multiple studies with many samples.
Cons: It is an expensive platform, a small lab may not be able to afford it. It does take a while to get set up and plan everything accordingly.

Pros: Handling a large inventory of samples and reagents used to be a challenge--until we implemented eLabNext. The barcode label printing and scanning capabilities have streamlined our workflows and minimized human errors. What I appreciate most is the seamless integration of inventory items with out experiments and protocols, keeping everything organized and easily accessible. The eLabNext team provided outstanding support during onboarding, ensuring a smooth and stress-free transition. This platform has become an essential tool for our lab.

Bioraft - Scishield is a very low-quality system with no SDS libraries, no real-time inventory tracking, no automated GSH, haz class reporting, and poor customer technical support. Offering a simple download of an Excel spreadsheet that the user enters with no function defeats the purpose of having software in the first place.
Pros: Lightweight Basic Functionality (very basic) Ability to upload training data
Cons: $79

Userfriendly. Very helpful customer support
Pros: Easy to use, modular, everything is tracable
Cons: Takes some time to set it up at first, but then you quickly get a lot of benefits

Great, easy to use. We don't use any paper labjournals anymore.
Pros: This ELN is easy to inplement en very easy to use. Customer support is great.
Cons: Our internal servers are not connected to the ELN.

Elab has the most complete functionality of a LMS, since it covers inventory and protocol management that can be arranged per project per team.
Pros: I like the inventory of equipment and samples functionality of elab. The integration of microsoft office is a big help.
Cons: Navigation can be complicated in the beginning.
Stephen S. · Dr. · Higher Education · May 16, 2024
Undecided if its an improvement or not. The jury is still out.
Pros: Not sure really havnt started using it properly yet, taken a lot of time to sort out the infrastructure, would be easier if the Elab team has better insight into the peripherals and things needed to start using the software effectively
Cons: Very slow to get up and running-this is mainly due to limited home resource and nothing to do with the product. However Eppendorff could start to sell printers and labels etc so they cover everything you need to start embedding the software effectively

the software has easy and self-explaining user interface. its a good medium to catalogue my inventories as well as define different protocols for better coordination among lab members
Pros: Good to use, easy to handle, easy for cataloging
Cons: Kindly compile all the tutorial videos together for better understanding.

Pros: When using eLabJournal we take advantage of: - We no longer use paper-based experiments. - Instead of having different repositories for experiment and sample results, everything is stored in a single digital repository, avoiding the exchange of mails with these results. - The Audit Trail of the samples is really good. - You can trace the Samples that are used in an experiment really easily. - Sample reception process using QR has simplified this process within Viralgen. - The ingestion of data from third party software using API is straightforward. - The implementation of eLAbJournal has allowed more communication between laboratories and departments. - The integration with other third-party applications is possible using the API. In our case with SAP.
Cons: - When being used to paper-based experiments, the investment of time you need to digitalize your experiments in eLabJournal is really high. - We miss some Project/Study/Experiment filtering tools.

overall experience is good and the pro's far outweigh the cons
Pros: elabjournal allows me to track sample usage and movements across the lab
Cons: Printing could be better, we use a Brady BBP12 and it isn't directly supported, ideally I would like the function to be able to design the label in a wysiwyg function built in to the package
Neil D. · Lab manager · Higher Education · April 30, 2024

Cons: I would use same name for experiement, project, and sometimes study.
David G. · R and D Lab Manager · Automotive · April 2, 2024
Pros: The different options for manipulating samples
Cons: You can't move a sample series over if samples in the series that is being moved is in the spaces that you are trying to move to.
Erin A. · Research Assistant · Research · January 31, 2024

Has been wonderful to use and had really allowed me to keep better and more reflective record of lab experiments.
Pros: Being able to have an electronic lab book. Searchable inventory has been an amazing feature and use it daily.
Cons: Took a while to learn and get used to it because of this I feel like I’m not being able to fully utilize all the services it offers.
Alice S. · Research officer · Research · December 4, 2023
Pros: Easy to use and aesthetically appealing interface. Fantastic for inventory management!
Cons: Can take a while to learn and take advantage of all of the features.
Lauren B. · Research Officer · Research · December 4, 2023
Generally a good experience. I have basic data and it does well at keeping it.
Pros: Site presentation of the data and how to navigate
Cons: Feels a bit clunky when needing lots of data types recorded
Stephanie Z. · Senior animal technician · Research · December 4, 2023
Pros: The ease of use and organization is the best feature
Cons: No issue was found as of now. The only thing can be said is initially it was a bit complicated
Yashna W. · PhD student · Higher Education · December 4, 2023
i am a fan of it and prefer it over using paper lab books, which were tedious and time consuming
Pros: - the inventory system has been a game changer for our lab group - the electronic lab book has made it easier to show my data to my supervisor
Cons: it takes a while to understand the system
Zara B. · Research Assistant · Research · December 4, 2023

Cons: Nothing really, it’s easy to use and user friendly
Martin G. · Animal technician · Non-Profit Organization Management · December 4, 2023
In general I would recoment it. It's functional, user-friendly, and one single platform to keep easy access to labnotes/Inventories records.
Pros: It is kind of intuitive. It doesn't need much training to start. It's useful when sharing on real time the information between different sites, and that is deeply relevant when teams are located in different cities and need to have access to the information. Very friendly when adding collaborators and working together writing a protocol/experiment. Excelent for record keeping and great that deleted info/vials can be found if is requiered.
Cons: It requieres patience with the constant improvements and glitches. Now I am doing the refreshing as a part of the steps while using ELN. It is not too flexible and strongly recommend first to generate the protocol/experiment in other format and then just import it to this platform. That will save you time and headaches. Always have to save before you move between steps/sections, even in the same experiment. There are limitations in term of how to organize an experiment.
Xochitl A. · Senior Scientist · Biotechnology · November 15, 2023
One of the better options that I have tried
Pros: Easy to use overall, ability to track cells history throughout experiments, template applications
Cons: Needs better software integration. Excel constantly doesn’t allow my formulas to Calculate. Easier inventory access and ability to delete or add into checked out spots
Laura K. · Senior Research Associate · Research · October 31, 2023
Pros: eLAB journal is easy to use and customizable for my experiment record. The cloud-based system allows me to track my experiment history as well as my coworker's records from my benchtop/TC room without running back to my desk or asking around. Truly this feature saves me time and I can follow the record by reducing any mistakes.
Cons: There are still some limitations in inserting raw data files, such as Excel data or sequencing results.
