Awful Would not admit any issues and would not refund my money The system did not work for more than 2 days before glitches came up we spent hours on phone with their IT people I hired outside people to come in Paid them said not your hardware its the software
Pros: nothing THe scheduling was difficult. We would all meet at 7am only to be told they were not reADY AND CONVERSION HAD NOT BEEN COMPLETED
Cons: We could not get all the info to convert into ONE. The xrays features did not work alot of the time.....variable and we could not get the intraoral camera to ever work or open I asked for my money back and ONE would not do it . They just waived th eearly termination fee of $5000 I am out $2999

I have found Dentrix Ascend to be a great teacher. What I mean by that is that instead of trying to make Ascend do things the way I was used to, I let it teach me new, better, and more productive ways to do things. It revolutionized our office flow and has saved us so much time and hassle. I really tried to learn all of the things Ascend can do and I was amazed at what I could customize so many things. A little effort from me to set up clinical note templates, multi codes, attaching our preferred codes to the ICD-10 codes used in Quick Exam, etc. meant that our processes were fast and easy from that point on. I love Dentrix Ascend and I love that it is constantly updating and bringing on new features, teaching me to do things more efficiently. It will never be an outdated software.

Cons: Any time you change to a new software there is a learning curve. We switched to Dentrix Ascend in 2018 and the process of inputting patient insurance was a much bigger task than we realized. Our trainer tried to tell us, but we did not pay attention so the first month was a very busy month as we scrambled to input insurance. Now Ascend auto imports insurance tables so new users don't have to go through what we did.

Overall, it is simple to use after some training. I don't ever want to switch practices software again.
Pros: The Customer support is excellent. When we first signed on with ascend and transitioned from "old dentrix" it was a daunting scary process no one wanted to do. Customer support made it easy and helped us through the challenges with ease.
Cons: I wish insurance verification was easier. I also wish there were quicker print options. seems insignificant, but sometimes it's 3-5 clicks just to print. Power reporting is confusing, the filters and options needed to get the right report data is overwhelming, I wish it could be simplified, and put into a tab or quick link to my favorite reports that saved my settings for each report I want to print.

Overall our experience has been wonderful from the dedicated conversion team to help with imaging and forms. The integrated forms that put health alerts into your patient history are phenomenal. The insurance eligibility has saved our practice the money of two full time team members (appx 75k a year).
Pros: Customer support is quick and easy. Scheduling for mutli-locations is seamless. The insurance verification colors are helpful at a glance to know who needs attention.
Cons: Unable to re-assign a payment type without deleting payment slows down our team a great deal. Could use some feature improvements with that and we need a deceased patient status.

Dentrix Ascend has been a great addition to our practice, offering a modern, user-friendly platform with strong potential for continued improvement. What truly stands out is their pleasant and responsive support team. Whenever we have questions or run into challenges, they provide clear solutions in a timely manner, making it easy to keep our workflow moving without unnecessary delays. Their professionalism and positive attitude make every interaction smooth and reassuring. Ascend’s platform is already a solid foundation, and we’re excited to see it continue to grow and evolve alongside our organization’s needs. We highly recommend Dentrix Ascend to practices seeking dependable support.
Pros: Dentrix Ascend’s support team has been absolutely outstanding, consistently providing fast, knowledgeable, and friendly assistance whenever we need help. Their dedication to resolving issues quickly and thoroughly makes a huge difference in keeping our office running smoothly. A special thank you to [sensitive content hidden], who truly goes above and beyond. She is patient, professional, and incredibly clear when explaining solutions, making even complex problems feel manageable. [sensitive content hidden]’s positive attitude and commitment to customer success reflect the very best of Dentrix Ascend support. We genuinely appreciate the excellent service and highly recommend their team to any practice.
Cons: Power Reporting in Dentrix Ascend feels unnecessarily clumsy and frustrating to use. The layout isn’t intuitive, and getting meaningful, relevant data often feels like a complex puzzle—honestly, you’d need a PhD in Power Reporting just to make it useful. Even once you understand the process, the system is much too slow, with reports taking longer than they should to generate and refine. It makes simple analysis feel like a time-consuming project instead of a quick workflow step. Unfortunately, the best solution seems to be Jarvis, which is far more efficient—but it comes with an additional cost. That extra price adds insult to injury.

Pros: Great for practice management and organized. Easy to use
Cons: Nothing was wrong with using dentrix ascend
Esther C. · Dental Hygienist · Health, Wellness and Fitness · October 27, 2024
Can never get ahold of customer support to help with any of the problems.
Pros: Nothing, there is nothing that I like about this software. I have worked in the dental field for almost 30 years and this is the worst software that I have ever used.
Cons: Everything is terrible. There are ALWAYS glitches. Treatment plans never calculate correctly. You can never get ahold of anyone to help. It's the bottom of the barrel software for dental.
Shannon B. · Office Manager · Health, Wellness and Fitness · September 11, 2024
We have 2 offices that switched from Dentrix to Dentrix Ascend in December. We all hate it. We are moving to another program in a few weeks.
Pros: Looks clean. User function is not great.
Cons: So much clicking to get where you want to go. Laborious. No pretreatment estimate tracking. You can put in treatment, and send a preauthorization, but when it comes back, there's no way to communicate what the preestimate states except going to hunt for it and looking at a little note you put in yourself. Also, the power reporting is a NIGHTMARE. Overly complicated. You can't print a report. We have needed support several times and while the people I've actually gotten a hold of have been wonderful, I've waited on the phone for over 45 minutes twice before I was able to reach someone to help me. If you email them, they create a ticket. They don't tell you what to do with the ticket, but you have one. Enjoy. We went over a month until we were able to fix a problem with insurance coverage dates overlapping. We were completely locked out until I had someone remote in to my laptop at home and fix it. She did a great job, but the time it took to get the problem resolved was ridiculous.

Pros: Loved the digital experience of Dentrix Ascend!
Cons: Was awesome! Didn't have any integrations with other vendors.
Justin D. · Admin · Hospital & Health Care · November 7, 2023
It takes 10 x longer to do anything in the front office. You cannot change insurance companies without going through 15 - 20 minutes of navigation, There is NO WAY to put a insurance information form on with the other 5 forms for the patient to fill out their own insurance information. You have to put the insurance address and telephone number in every time you put the insurance in, it does not do it automatically. The estimates are NEVER correct. The people that work there do not have a clue what they are doing. There is NOT one thing I like about this software
Pros: Nothing- There is Nothing I like- everything is so difficult to navigate, no one that works there knows anything about the software
Cons: Everything! I can't think of anything I like
Sheila K. · Office Manager · Facilities Services · September 28, 2023
Better customer support is greatly needed.
Pros: Being cloud based is nice. They backup your data and setup is simple.
Cons: When there are issues, it takes hours to get through to help desk for assistance. Seems like issues happen every 5-6 weeks lately.
Jerry H. · Administrator · Higher Education · July 28, 2023
Frustrating. Not worth switching!
Pros: Security. Data is in the cloud and not on a local server.
Cons: Every couple of weeks a feature goes down or their system gets so slow that it is unusable. I can't currently open any patient charts, with a patient in the chair- and this has happened many times before.
Clark M. · Owner · Medical Practice · April 14, 2023
pretty decent software. much better then softdent but doesnt have all the features Opendental does.
Pros: Ascend is easy to use, love the cloud feature as I can access it from any computer and get to work
Cons: could have some better functions for insurance management. Some of the features are inconvenient.
kelly n. · CEO · Hospital & Health Care · December 20, 2022
Great when I have multiple offices and w with Covid being cloud based we could always access
Pros: Cloud based and the easy access from any smart connected device
Cons: Can’t chart full cups restorations Can’t choose colors for restorations existing. Treatment planned. Completed. And can’t make individual surface restorations on the charting
J Scott A. · Dentist · Health, Wellness and Fitness · September 30, 2022
Poor. We are finding one shortcoming after another. Customer Support is happy to contact me.
Pros: I like the ability to text patients and log in remotely. That's about it.
Cons: I dislike that you are limited to the Payor ID insurance database! They do not update the database. Inability to run finance charges with statements.
Jennifer K. · Doctor · Health, Wellness and Fitness · September 28, 2022
Our office transitioned from Dentrix Core to Dentrix Ascend and it was a VERY difficult transition. The accounting aspect was VERY difficult to learn. Many of the Core features did not transfer over to the Ascend, so we were having to use 2 management softwares for more then 12 months.
Pros: Scheduling appointments was simple enough.
Cons: The accounting portion was terribly difficult to navigate. Not at ALL user friendly.
Mary M. · Office Manager · Medical Practice · August 11, 2022
Pros: Dashboards are well done on the main menu. Reports are easy to customize with a bit of practice.
Cons: The reports and dashboards are inaccurate and vary based on time run. For instance, the AR aging report for 12/31/2020 was run at one point for $50,000. One year later the same report reflected about $70,000. This same phenomenon happens with revenue. The reports do not align.
William T. · Chief Financial Officer · Medical Practice · May 1, 2022
Not good and we left and switched to Dentrix
Pros: Cloud based and not a lot of clicking to get through software.
Cons: It just was not ready to handle to the hustle and bustle of the day to day of a busy practice.
Kristen P. · Dentist/owner · Hospital & Health Care · July 18, 2021
Overall a success. We are able to train staff efficiently, have multitiers of user management.
Pros: Works across the cloud and therefore can see all our locations by permission. Multiple ways to navigate patient records.
Cons: Stalling, slow downs, having to log out/close out and log in or refresh multiple times per day. Patient Health updates, Claim status information.
Tracy S. · Centralized Billing Manager · Health, Wellness and Fitness · June 18, 2021
Better communication among staff and between the office and patients over all our office has become much more efficient!
Pros: How easy the software is to learn and use. Our staff was very concerned about the transition because we had been using the other software for years and they still had so many problems using it. Ascend is user friendly it’s as easy to use as an app on your phone. I asked the team what they like most and these where their answers: 2 way texting, electronic sending for insurance, reliability, ability to access anywhere, time clock (new), how fast it runs compared to our old system and the amazing reports you can run (daily huddle)
Cons: In the perio charting it would be awesome if there was a way that implants are marked so both charts don't have to be open at the same time.
Susan W. · Director of Business Administration · Hospital & Health Care · May 26, 2021
Positive over all
Pros: It was easy to use & to learn. Quick to go from one page to another when using the duplicate feature.
Cons: Writing the patient notes could have fewer steps.
Faye E. · Dental Hygiene · Medical Practice · May 25, 2021
Pros: Ease of getting from one window (patient care pages) to the other.
Cons: Charting patient information needs perfecting by Dental auxiliary members.
Connie W. · RDH · Computer Software · May 25, 2021
Pros: It is so easy to use. You can request features that are often considered and implemented. The ongoing updates are great. Technical support is excellent.
Cons: The perio comparison chart is difficukt to read. The note that we set up for scheduling(i.e. provider request) does not pop up when the appointment is being made.
Karen M. · Dental Hygienist/Hygiene Manager · Health, Wellness and Fitness · May 25, 2021
Overall I like this software - its well organized, easy to learn and I can access it anywhere since it's cloud based. I don't know what I would do without it!
Pros: This software is easy to learn and use. I am not great with techy things but I was able to adapt to using this format quickly.
Cons: We have a set of Ipads that we use chairside. Often the software will lock up on these devices.
Suzanne C. · Dentist · Hospital & Health Care · May 24, 2021
Like the automated insurance verification and ease of claims submission
Pros: -ease of use -ease of training -integration of imaging -continuous improvement
Cons: -does not integrate with 3rd party applications well -would like to be able to open it to one patient instead of a Home Screen first
