It’s easy to get started and works well on the surface, but over time you notice the difference between expected and actual results, particularly around deliverability. It’s a platform that can work, but you need to keep a close eye on performance and not assume everything is reaching the inbox as intended.
Pros: Clean interface, easy setup, flexible list and data management, scalable for larger sends, usable template builder
Cons: Deliverability can be inconsistent, global blacklist presence affects performance, limited transparency on inbox placement, account issues can take time to resolve

My experience has been ok but not great. I’ve run into bugs that the support team hasn’t been able to help with and often feel limited by the automation capabilities.
Pros: Sending individual email campaigns is simple and their design editor is easy to use as a non technical user.
Cons: Their email automations aren’t very dynamic and aren’t easy to edit after they are set to live, it’s especially frustrating you can’t edit time between emails once an automation is live.

Pros: I like their statistics they provide for the emails. You are able to see all the emails that were sent and any meta data such as if they opened, how many times, or if it failed to send. This allows us to help investigate any issues and or use this data for marketing.
Cons: I wish they had a better way for the error handling with handlebars in the email/data received for developers. I wish it would indicate what was wrong in terms of the language. More detail there would help a lot.

SendGrid does what it says on the tin. It is easy to set up and use. The APIs are well documented, making the developer experience a good one. Detailed reporting and high deliverability give a sense of comfort that SendGrid works as advertised.
Pros: SendGrid is everything you need and expect - it is reliable, scalable and powerful. Via well documented APIs, nice reporting, and a generous free tier, getting started and maintaining flow is painless and easy.
Cons: While there are generous free and lower tiers, the pricing jumps between tiers can be significant. While there is automation, it is limited compared to the competition.

When an E-Commerce Manager, it is important that order confirmations be actually received by our buyers. I have this to drive our store emails of transactions. It is a horse to work with in regard to deliverability yet it is extremely tough to get technical assistance.
Pros: Their flexibility in terms of dynamism in email templates is superb and we can depend on them to provide our retail customers with order receipts and shipping updates using a very reliable service.
Cons: The pricing levels are not worth the money because our e-commerce traffic is at its peak, and customer service is painfully slow when we have urgent account problems or some data management failures.
Amir H. · E-Commerce Manager · Retail · March 8, 2026
Pros: Good IP reputation. Easy to user interface that gives robust access to logs. Reasonable pricing makes it hard to beat
Cons: No easy way to do mass unsubscribe actions. Makes sense but there are times where a receiving party's email server goes on a unsubscribe spree.
Sean M. · Customer Success · Computer Software · February 9, 2026
Pros: It still one of the best tools that we use regularly for scheduling emails and automating the flows for it.
Cons: More alternatives are appearing with better price for a similar service. Price could be aligned more.

We implemented it 5 years ago for all our Product emails and it has always worked well. We manage 100+ different emails templates and all is easily manageable in their interface.
Pros: Easy to implement, easy to create emails templates and has lots of abilities for the pricing they offer.
Cons: The reporting, especially the unique clicks and unique opens is not accurate. They count it per unique device open instead of actual email open which is a bit annoying to track accuratly.

Integrated directly (and was recommended) by Replit for a vibe coded project. Replit was requested to send email and it guided me to sending up a Sendgrid account which was nice and easy.
Pros: A really complete product but with a super simple interface. I needed it for transactional email and I'd say it's deliverability is better than anything I've seen before in terms of reliability.
Cons: An extremely minor point but if I had to find a con from my experience so far it would be that navigating the custom domain settings requires a bit of knowledge and research. Personal scenario, if you know what you're doing you'll do fine. Easy enough to muddle your way through.

My account was hacked and the hacker blocked my IP address. It took SendGrid support 3 day to get back to me. I still don't have access to my account.
Pros: Seems like a robust email delivery service. N upfront cost. I can start with our free plan and try the full suite of features at my own pace.
Cons: Terrible customer support. They do not have a contact number or online ticket system. Response by email is very slow.

I lost out on thousands of dollars of work because they stopped sending my emails. Apparently they switched from free to paid but didn't tell me. Had they told me I could have upgraded in time, instead i lost a bunch of customers because of it.
Pros: When it worked. That is until they forgot to tell me they stopped delivering my emails and that I'd have to pay. How hard is it to send me one email?
Cons: When they went from free to paid, didn't tell me, and i lost multiple weeks worth of email / jobs because of it

My experience with Sendgrid has always been good, there are no problems with their shipping system, their builder is great and their API integrates with many other tools.
Pros: It has always been a fundamental tool for the development of email campaigns. It has been a reference against other companies.
Cons: Possibly the price is a determining factor. Today there are many competitive tools that can cope. In general, there are no complaints.

We were happy users for years. Then the email about pricing changes - a whopping $60/mo minimum because we used basic marketing automation (a welcome email when users sign up). I wasn't able to completely refactor the integration before the cutoff, so now I have no automation and they deleted all my contacts and my templates, so I get to rebuild ALL of that from scratch. Awesome!
Pros: The ability to format emails and build automations was straightforward for our simple use case. We used the API capability to sync our contacts and basic marketing automation.
Cons: We have a low volume, simple use case. Suddenly they change their pricing and require that we pay $60/mo to send our ~50 emails per month! Unsustainable of course, and after we heavily invested to build the API integration, it was as you'd expect an unfortunate turn of events that left us high and dry.

Very positive experience with SendGrid given the ease of standing up the integration and validating that the messaging workflows were enabled.
Pros: The ability to quickly and easily integrate the corporate marketing platform into SendGrid to enable campaigns and help ensure message delivery.
Cons: Configuration was easy and straightforward. But, if the individual tasked with integrating and implementing SendGrid does not have DNS experience they will need to rely on their DNS administrator to complete the configuration.

Overall, our experience with SendGrid has been positive, but some improvements could be made in regards to support and explanation of billing options.
Pros: SendGrid allows us to send bulk emails to current and prospective customers without fear of our primary email service being added to spam lists.
Cons: SendGrid support is not a efficient as support at some software companies. Billing through Azure can be a bit confusing.
Eli P. · Centralized Services Manager · Information Technology and Services · June 3, 2025
Very bad, hard to make work if successful at all and no support that will actually help you with anything.
Pros: cheap unless you want support, then you have to pay a lot extra and it is not worth it. They can not setup anything correct and can't help fix their mistakes.
Cons: charges extra for support, they are terrible at following up and setting up accounts correctly. Only support option is chat and they purposely wait 2-4 minutes between each response.

It’s solid. It takes a little time to get used to some quirks, but once it’s set up, it works well. Good tool for transactional emails and templates.
Pros: It gets the job done. Email delivery is reliable, and the dynamic template system is flexible once you get the hang of it.
Cons: Sometimes I have to double-save when editing dynamic templates, which can be a bit annoying. It feels like the changes don’t always stick the first time.

An excellent service that despite the somewhat difficult initial curve in understanding all the functions and how to get the most out of it then really becomes a well-structured service with all the necessary functions to control and manage the sending of e-mails.
Pros: I really like the ease of use, for various projects I have found it easy to implement for sending emails to confirm the user. I also find the dashboard for managing the mailings and controlling the mailings very good.
Cons: As a cons I would have preferred a better explanation of how to use the service, I have to admit that it is a very good service but for some functions it was rather difficult to understand how to use it.

SMTP was faily easy to set up anf sendgrid provided API to connect email function to my wordpress sites without stress.
Pros: Its very easy to set up email funnels with sendgrid plus the inbox delivery high and spam rate is low.
Cons: I did not get enough help while setting up my account but i still figured things out even though the platform was more complex than other email providers

Pros: Nothing now, 7 days later I an still waiting for a call back, You cannot run a business with support like that.
Cons: They have got to big to care about customers

We use SendGrid to send emails as an early stage startup.
Pros: Great for us to send emails as an early stage startup
Cons: The interface was a little less user friendly
Lindsey M. · Director of Marketing Operations · Insurance · April 7, 2025
Fantastic, I wouldn't imagine using anything else with its full feature set
Pros: Easy to use, implement and track statistics. Secure and reliable
Cons: lower tier pricing, wish they had 1 tier lower for our use case
Joe C. · IT MANAGER · Warehousing · March 31, 2025
Overall, highly recommended tool for your business for your notification emails or marketing emails. it has some very useful features like open rates and unique customers to track progress of the campaigns.
Pros: Excellent detailed insights with filter options to track emails/SMS to customers and comprehensive Analytic features like delivery rates and click through rates.
Cons: Sendgrid provides excellent services but the pricing point might become higher when high tier plans are considered which unlocks advanced features.
Raxit P. · Programmer Analyst · Computer Software · March 24, 2025
SendGrid is the worst vendor in our tech stack, stay away
Pros: The brand name for sending emails, it is a big name
Cons: Without warning, they shut down their system, and then there is no one to resolve the issue. No phone number to call, their help chat bot does not have any ability to restore service to paying customers
Russell J. · CEO · Transportation/Trucking/Railroad · March 13, 2025
It is a great tool for small companies with considerable operating capital - because it removed the need to manage the SMTP client/servers.
Pros: Scalability, superior deliverable reliability, user-friendly API Integration and great analytics engine
Cons: The cost can get a little exorbitant when dealing with high-volume campaigns - definitely a consideration for smaller firms
