Cove Data Protection, from N-able, is a cloud-first backup and disaster recovery service for servers, workstations, and Microsoft 365™, all managed from a multitenant web-based dashboard. Cove was created and optimized for the cloud, so incremental backups are up to 60 times smaller than with traditional image backup products. This allows you to back up more often, and the SaaS delivery format reduces administrative time, lowering your cost of service delivery. Storage in our private cloud is included, with data centers worldwide. Cove delivers full image recovery, as well as fast file/folder restore, including the option to set up a recovery environment in Microsoft Azure. Cove's architecture also helps reduce your attack surface, as primary backup storage is isolated by default, off the local network and out of the reach of ransomware that may be there.

Amazing. The ease of deployment and integration with our RMM has kept us working on real problems instead of fighting our tools.
Pros: Easy management of large numbers of devices and o365 backups. Restoring is a breeze. Deploying from our RMM is fast an easy.
Cons: Bare metal restore can be very slow, and not always work (more and issue with laptops thans servers)

Very pleased, so much so that I am moving to Cove from other back-up solutions I am using for various clients which is the best endorsement I can give Cove!
Pros: The customized reports for my clients and my business and the support team, especially [sensitive content hidden] , have been great to work with in deployment and support.
Cons: Customizing the emails going to my clients. There is overlap which has resulted in some clients getting multiple unwanted emails

Overall, Cove has been great and provides us with peace of mind. Our clients can rest assured that their data is protected from threats and restoration is simple
Pros: Cove provides the ability to securely store system state and file level backups. We also utilize their backup solution for Cloud services. I restored a Teams channel for a client and the process was smooth
Cons: The user interface can be confusing the navigate sometimes. It’s not readily apparent how to launch the back up portal.

It is a great product and easily used for backup for our small MSP and clients. We do not have to check all the time and we get notification for any issue.
Pros: The data backup and ease of backup on the cloud. Also recovery data is easily access and recover anytime
Cons: We used Cove for Several months and it has been good not much to say. The Function works just fine and no issue for now.
Jessalyn A. · Technical Support Manager · Information Technology and Services · May 14, 2026
Very positive experience. Staff is easy to work with. Support is good. We have been using them with minimal issues.
Pros: Easy to use and manage. The setup was quick. The dashboard is simple. The support is good and timely.
Cons: The very basic file backup has limited extensions that are covered. They give you some free licenses for file backups.

Overall, Cove Data Protection has been a strong backup solution for managed IT environments. It makes it easier to monitor backups, protect important data, and respond quickly when a restore is needed. The platform feels lightweight compared to older backup systems, and the centralized management is one of its biggest strengths. Once configured properly, it gives confidence that client data is being protected without requiring constant hands-on management.
Pros: Cove Data Protection has been reliable and easy to manage from an MSP perspective. The cloud-first backup approach makes deployment much simpler compared to traditional backup appliances, and the dashboard gives a clear view of backup status across multiple devices and clients. I like that it helps reduce the amount of manual checking needed, while still giving enough detail to quickly identify failed backups, storage usage, and protected systems. The recovery options are also straightforward, which is huge when time matters.
Cons: The main downside is that there can be a learning curve when first getting familiar with the portal, policies, and restore options. Some settings are not always as obvious as they could be, especially for newer technicians who have not worked with the product before. Reporting and alerting could also be a little more customizable so teams can better match the notifications to their internal workflow.

Not so good. I have purchased onsite recovery months ago. It has never been set up because no one has helped us configure it.
Pros: What it is capable of doing. The possibilities are very good but there has been no instruction on how to configure.
Cons: No instruction good instruction on how to use it. I purchased onsite recovery option but no one has showed us how to configure it. So its not in production.

Overall I am please with this product, but it is priced more than most of it's competitors and should have more details in the email alerts.
Pros: it's automation, consistent email alerts and easy to use makes it my preferred cloud backup solution,
Cons: The price is a little higher than most other comparable products on the market right now...it seems the fees could be adjusted to be more competitive.

Overall, my experience with Cove Data Protection has been positive. It offers dependable backup and recovery capabilities, strong security, and an easy-to-use interface that simplifies daily management. The platform performs well for protecting critical data, though like any system, there is a learning curve with some advanced features. Overall, it has been a reliable and effective solution.
Pros: What I liked most about Cove Data Protection is its reliability and ease of use. The platform provides consistent, secure backups with minimal maintenance, and the interface is intuitive, making it easy to manage and monitor data protection tasks efficiently.
Cons: I liked least about Cove Data Protection was that some advanced features and settings can take time to fully learn, especially for new users. In certain situations, troubleshooting or navigating more detailed configurations could be more streamlined.

Pros: I love cove. But I want to throw my pc out the window every day when I get this survey email it makes me livid.
Cons: They employ this survey company to harass me. It makes me want to find another company to do the job.
Ryan N. · Network engineer · Information Technology and Services · May 12, 2026
It's been a solid B+. My experience with the platform has been minimal, but the one instance where I needed to locate files for a client who's computer crashed, the service was straight forward and allowed me to restore exactly what I needed to.
Pros: Ease of use, value, and billing transparency. It's very easy to get into the portal and start creating company's, which then expands into rolling out agents.
Cons: The only thing I'm not a fan of is there's a bit of ambiguity when it comes to restoring a full system.
Shelby C. · Director of Information Technology · Information Technology and Services · May 12, 2026
I have had an overall good experience with cove. When I have needed help, I have been able to reach a human to resolve my issue.
Pros: I use Cove Data Protection for SQL Server database backups for about 50 businesses. It is an easy to use reliable backup solution.
Cons: I am disappointed that Cove is not compatible with SQL Server 2025. This is a big issue I hope they fix soon.
Greg G. · Owner - CEO · Computer Software · May 12, 2026
Terrible. I raised my concerns about pricing and was given no solution. I was then charged an additional year because I was signed up for auto-renewal and didn't know about it.
Pros: The product works and is easy to setup. Restores were granular and easy to restore what you needed to quickly.
Cons: It's too expensive and to protect simple data in a shared team became way too expensive to maintain because of their pricing structure. I would have had to protect EVERY employee because I wanted to protect data in a shared resource.
Tony M. · IT Director · Hospital & Health Care · May 12, 2026
Overall, the product provides a very good user experience. For the most part set it up and let run.
Pros: The product was easy to deployment. Has a nice interface where you can see all your devices on one screen.
Cons: Cost compared to some other onsite first solutions that can be done as one time purchase vs subscription.

My overall experience with Cove Data Protection has been positive. Finding a product that's easy to deploy, at a fair price with flexible licensing options makes it a great choice for MSPs. We are a "small" MSP and it fits our needs perfectly, but with Cove being feature rich, I'm sure it will serve much larger MSPs as well.
Pros: Overall Cove Data Protection is a great tool for an MSP. With a quick learning curve and simple deployment it's a good value. I like the integration with N-Sight and the ease of remote management. The licensing options make it a no-brainer to recommend to my clients.
Cons: Maybe I'm a little bias, but I really can't find any "cons". I have used other products and they were all "overkill" and overly complicated.
George J. · President · Computer & Network Security · May 12, 2026
Fairly experienced -- have used it to restore files, SaaS content (e.g., e-mail or Teams/SharePoint). The support has been wonderful -- they not only teach you about using the product but also give advice on how to utilize the licensing properly and to best value.
Pros: The product works without much fuss and offers a quality dashboard and communications to easily identify if there are any files prohibiting what the software declares as a successful backup.
Cons: It's a fantastic backup product, but is not really what I would choose for a business continuity solution due to its inability to run from a local appliance; it may work via an Azure instance, but not all clients have that in their infrastructure nor would it be as quick to stand up in the event of a "production down" situation.
Lee S. · Founding Partner and CTO · Information Technology and Services · May 12, 2026
Seems like its a better budget option. The price is the selling point, but the interface could be better. Support seems good so far.
Pros: It does what its supposed to at a fair cost. Ive also dealt with some kind and helpful support people.
Cons: That there isnt a centralized, easy to read page that shows the total billable count, broken down by each client. And that you cannot delete specific dates from your backup, you would need to delete the entire backup history if you wanted to remove a single file that shouldnt have been backed up.

This, as part of the N-Able suite of tools, has been the best overall value for our clients. The recovery testing and speed vault has eased concerns for our clients, improving their confidence.
Pros: Cove reduced our backup RTO by 50% or more. Adopting, deploying, and managing the product is straight forward. When we have any questions the team response time is outstanding. The new DRaaS offering has a lot of promise and has been well communicated.
Cons: At first the console seemed a bit unorganized, but through the years has become simpler to work with. Reports were also an issue early but improved since.
Ron O. · Founder · Information Technology and Services · May 11, 2026
Pros: Never did a doubt cross my mind that my confidential data wasn't already securely backed up. Very convenient and easy to access.
Cons: I've never had any issues. Cove along with nable are tools I use daily and have never had an issue with them. Always fast, easy, secure. Can quickly access any servers or users device as needed and restore files!
Owasif R. · Help Desk Engineer · Information Technology and Services · May 11, 2026
My overall experience with Cove Data Protection has been very positive. The platform is easy to deploy, simple to manage, and well suited for MSP environments supporting small and mid-sized businesses. The cloud-first architecture reduces infrastructure overhead while still providing reliable backup and recovery capabilities. I especially appreciate the centralized multi-tenant management, efficient incremental backups, and flexible recovery options, including file-level and full system restores. The Microsoft 365 backup integration adds significant value for clients concerned about ransomware and data retention. Performance has been consistent, and the interface is straightforward enough for technicians to learn quickly. Overall, Cove delivers a strong balance of reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency, making it a dependable backup and disaster recovery solution for managed IT services.
Pros: Ease of setup, use and management, reliable recovery, fast and efficient, secure and compliant, great margins.
Cons: One area where Cove Data Protection could improve is reporting and advanced customization. While the platform is very easy to use, some of the reporting features feel limited compared to larger enterprise backup solutions. Creating highly customized reports or detailed executive-level summaries for clients can require additional effort.
Darin S. · CEO · Information Technology and Services · May 11, 2026
Excellent, our time with Cove has been a pleasure. We've been using the product since its launch and it is battle tested. We've done hundreds of restores, a few from ransomware incidents, and Cove has been the hero on numerous occasions.
Pros: Cove has been extremely easy to use and understand. Console flows well, very rarely do we wish for more. Support is pleasant to work with.
Cons: When it does break, which is rare, it can be challenging to resolve. Our handful of machines that give issues can and have dragged out and involve lengthy support calls.
Devin L. · Managed Services Engineer · Information Technology and Services · May 11, 2026
Pros: I like that it gives me lots of backup options and retention. Definitely helps our clients out a lot.
Cons: I don't like how it does not fulling integrate with our N-Able RMM platform. Over all it's not bad though.
Jeff S. · President · Information Technology and Services · May 11, 2026
It has been a great experience, backups that are stored on the cloud for a great value! The restore process is great as well.
Pros: I enjoy the ease of using Cove Data Protection, with an easy setup as well! It is also very easy to restore a backup if necessary!
Cons: I didn't like the occasional issues (typically require support team assistance), with little to know known fixes.
Daniel G. · Level I Helpdesk Engineer · Information Technology and Services · May 11, 2026
Have been using it for a few years I have no complaints about it. In fact it is very reliable. I have been able to restore any machine I have used it on. We only use the Document level backup feature.
Pros: It works. You can set it and forget it and the backups will work. It has saved many of our clients from failed hard drives and or crashed operating systems
Cons: So far no cons. Make sure you understand the program before deploying it for example the backup types it is set to do. Learn how to restore it and test on a device
Matthew F. · Technician · Information Technology and Services · May 11, 2026
Overall, it has been a very good experience, both in use and support, especially with support coming online to answer my questions.
Pros: Ease of management once it is installed, plus customer support is very good, the main process took more time than I initially thought it would take.
Cons: The initial process requiring on onboarding to install a new system, with the initial account setup, but once that is done, it has been great.
